Help! - HRM/Activity Question

So far I have only worn the HRM once when I went for a ZombiesRun 5k walk/jog session and that ties in roughly with the timeframe that Garmin Connect has allocated me an activity. My concern is that the GPS on my phone logged my run at 2.41 miles with an average pace of 13:50 min/mile and looking at my vivofit it was logging a HR of up to 165 but the data that has recorded on Garmin Connect is vastly different!
Time: 50.46 min
Distance: 0.16 miles
Avg Speed: 0.18mph (333min/mile
Highest HR: 128
Calories burned: 18
I have 2 questions I guess:
1. Am I doing something wrong?
2. Does the vivofit count the calories burned from the steps I take on my session as well as the HRM calories burned or does the HRM overwrite it. (Not sure if that makes sense, not that it matters in this instance due to the low level of apparent calories burned but I was curious)
Any help would be appreciated!
Also incase you want more connections, my username is the same as on here 692ECS.

Thats weird. My only suggestion would be to set up a small test run/walk course (at least 15 minutes) and run it a few times trying different things (pace, arm swing, hrm position etc) and see if you can nail down the anomaly.0

I used the HRM yesterday to complete the second workout of my program and the results were more promising and more accurate. I think I will do as you say and try a walk run course to see if I can peg down what I did differently this time so I can make sure I continue!
Thanks Ann121212!0 -
If I understand it correctly, the vivofit uses no GPS information when logging an activity, so the calorie count would be based on heart rate and an algorithm based on your height, weight and age, while counting your steps and distance based on estimates and a different algorithm using it's accelerometer. I didn't quite understand your question, but I'm thinking that the HRM info is going to give more accurate calorie burn wih less accurate distance and speed, while the app is likely using gps and accelerometer information from your phone to track speed, location, distance and then estimating a calorie burn.
Trust the vivofit HRM info for calories, and the app for other data on your run.
If I completely misunderstood, then I apologize.0 -
Papachanoli, thanks for your reply. I think I must have been miswearing the HRM or it didn't sync right on the first attempt because it now seems to be working fine. I have now done a further 3 runs and it has logged all the data correctly and not allocated me only 18 calories lost for 50 minutes of exercise.
I also think I have been able to answer my second question, which was whehter or not when the vivofit syncs to MFP whether the specific activity calories burned got counted twice as a stand alone activity and as the general walking exercise calories earned.
Eitherway this Vivofit was the best damn buy of the year, I don't think I have been this determined to go and do exercise in a long time and that is due to the red line and the challenges that I feel I need to win.0 -
Oh yeah. That damned red line makes me walk quite a bit more. Yep, I am that easy to manipulate.
That's the second time I've said that today.
I'm happy with the vivofit too. I'll be sticking with it until the Amiigo either proves itself or something better comes along.0
