Kettlebells vs. Weight Lifting DVD programs

Hi Everyone!

I had weight loss surgery in 2000 (it was tweaked in 2003) and have now regained weight. I want to start lifting weights at home, but don't know if I should do Kettlebells or use a DVD program like Beach Body's Body Beast or Les Mill's Body Pump?

Also what does STS stand for?

Thanks in advance!

Cynthia

Just to bump it for one, because I know several on here have done those programs, and may do traditional lifting now so can compare.

I know I've heard good things about the Body Pump, very close to circuit training - so good calorie burn, and good strength training, they keep making progress.
Well, up to you to add weight to bar to progress, but along those lines encouraging you to.

Another bump, and some mentioned a resistance program they liked Nia Shanks I think was it.
  • Anything that you are going to enjoy is going to be good. If you like the look of the Body Pump, then try it. If you want the burn and only have a short amount of time P90x3 might be good. It doesn't have to involve actual dumbbells and barbells either. Nia Shanks has a body weight progression program that you might enjoy. Or Beachbody has the new one PiYo that is a cross between Pilates and Yoga. I LOVE the PiYO but I also LOVE Nia Shanks.

With any program you have to be really careful with your form, but with Kettlebells it is even more important because you are moving that mass through the air pretty quickly. If you want to try that route, look at Lauren Brooks DVD's.

The point is...there are a ton of options. Moving your body is what you need to do, which program you do is up to you. Find one that makes you want to work out and go with it until you think you want to try something new and different :)
