Don't get the dizzy part but have had plenty of the hot flash and nausea lately. Just bought myself a personal battery operated fan. Never thought I'd see the day!0

I haven't had the dizziness with the hot flashes yet, but I do have nausea. But I haven't had a hot flash in a few weeks. Maybe they're calming down (fingers crossed).0

I don't get them often....at least not the bad ones. In a way they are like migraines used to be when I was young. I get a bit of a "prodrome" phase. I know something's not right.... then WHOA. I'm hot, my heart is racing, there's some anxiety... I'm woozy, I'm nauseous. And then it subsides, but takes a few hours before I'm back to normal. It feels a heck of a lot like a blood sugar crash, under a heat lamp.
I'm so glad it doesn't happen often! And I'm finally able to recognize what it is.
Normally I just get good ole fashioned HOT.0 -
Do any of you ever get a rash from hot flashes? I just went to the doc yesterday because I have had the strangest rash on my torso for about a week and she said it is due to hot flashes... What?!?!? She is putting me on some kind of cream and a powder to get it under control. I already sleep with a fan at my feet in bed and she said to put a fan on myself when I get out of the shower and make sure I dry really well. Ugh, one more thing to worry about.0

Hives is another side effect of changing hormones. You can have elevated histamine levels. Then whenever there is some kind of stimulus, your body has to fight hard to respond to it. I had poison ivy on my leg, and my body went crazy with hives elsewhere. Some foods have high histamine and some foods cause your body to produce more histamine. Drinking a lot of water helped, and avoiding the high histamine or histamine inducing foods. It sucked because it's all the foods I like.0

My sister gets a rash on her face from hot flashes. Does NOT sound fun.0

Can you tell me which foods you reacted to? I am wondering if that is what is causing it with me as well...0 -

Mine are sometimes like this. I've never actually flushed red with a hot flash, I turn a ghastly sickly pale grey colour instead. But that can sometimes be accompanied by a weird woozy I-think-I'm-going-to-pass-out feeling, and I've even had the sensation that the ground is rising up to meet me (not that I'm falling toward it).
However, I will say that the frequency and intensity of my hot flashes have been lessened greatly by adding Prometrium to the Estrogel I was already using. It's also helped somewhat with the anxiety/agitation I was experiencing, and insomnia (which is a HUGE issue for me).0 -

That's great! (the improvement).
I'm back on just bio-identical progesterone at the moment, but not the estriol...0 -
I was only taking the estrogen for a couple of years, and intermittently at that, because I technically don't "need" progesterone since I had a hysterectomy many years ago.
I read an article on a British Columbia women's health information site (looked reputable, affiliated with the university) about anxiety and insomnia related benefits to taking progesterone, so I talked my dr into prescribing it for me.
I will say too that I'm making better progress with my fitness goals since the progesterone.0 -

Well, it was hard to tell which foods, because so many foods I normally eat are on the list of high histamine or histamine causing. Without going on an elimination diet and reintroducing things, I couldn't tell you exactly. Spinach, tomatoes (and tomato sauces), shrimp, anything aged or fermented, anything containing vinegar (which includes many condiments), cured meats, some nuts, wheat based products, beer.... and many more.
Drinking a lot of water helped somewhat, and avoiding some of the foods on the list.
Right now, I haven't had any itching problems for a month or 6 weeks or so. But it seems like whenever I have any kind of stimulus, like bug bites or poison ivy, my body goes crazy. The weather is colder now so I haven't been attacked my mosquitoes lately. lol.

What helped with my flushes was.. stopped all alcohol and started taking evening primrose. When I finished those I was taking fish oils and lots of protein as I was doing a body building contest, noticed that I had no problems then either, don't forget fats help hormones0

I do EPO, definitely. And I get lots of fat. :-)
I love wine... so that's a bugger. ha.
I don't actually have that many regular ones. Just the occasional one and then these rare horrible ones. So glad those are rare.0 -
I experience the nausea with a hot flash. I'm glad to see that I am not the only one! I have a hot flash every 1 to 2 hours around the clock. At night, I noticed that the nausea is accompanied by an adrenaline rush, then the heat and sweats. Takes a while to get back to sleep so I suffer from sleep deprivation.
I find that I get these hot flashes for a few months and then they ease off for a month or so and then they come back. Sigh.
I do feel comforted by hearing that other people have similar experiences.0 -
Yup. For me, currently, I get the kind with nausea infrequently. It's almost like a migraine in that I know it's coming. I get a sorta...sense. Then it happens and I feel like crap for hours.
Currently I'm getting "regular" hot flashes about once an hour during the day, and more frequently at night. (probably because I enjoy wine with dinner).
The increased frequency is new to me. And started after the last nausea one (the thread starter).
If the nausea ones become more frequent I'll need to have a plan, as they really do ruin my day. Sorry you get them so often!0 -
I have started to get the nausea wave in the morning sometimes, a little bit like morning sickness, but not as bad. Of course when I was pregnant a zillion years ago, I was sick, sick, sick feeling until noon most days for 6 months. So I might be more sensitive to the hormonal swings than the average person. I don't know. The nausea spells don't seem to be linked to the hot flashes for me.0
-
I also have frequent waves of nausea in the morning. One time I even took a pg test since i hadn't had a period in several months, although hubby has had a vasectomy and there was no way I was pg. Just really strange as I didn't know nausea could be a symptom of menopause. So many changes...0

from about 40-45 I would get morning sickness with ovulation every few months. Vomiting, barfing morning sickness. Didn't love that!0 -

Yuck. Well I haven't got to the point where I have to vomit, and I hope I don't. I haven't pinned it down to it happening just at ovulation either. Of course with my cycle all over the place, I don't always know when ovulation is. Sometimes my period is coming every 3 weeks and sometimes it is 6-8 weeks.

Back when it happened to me I was still like clock work. It was definitely ovulation for me. The worst was when it happened while I was at a conference. I had to get on my knees and barf in a convention center public toilet. Not my favorite day!
It wasn't every month, fortunately. more like every 4-6.0
