Tough love TJ, but I feel ya.

It was cold again. And it's going to be cold tomorrow. All week really. 60% chance for snow...bleh.

I wasn't feeling it. I rarely am on Monday. The cold doesn't help, but I know dedicated runners do cold weather. I need to learn how to overcome it. I added a pair of sweatpants which helps a little. Think I need a nice pair of gloves, a beanie, and a upper body base layer. If I can run when it's 20 imagine what I can do when it's 70!

Good news, a lot of the people in my life are jumping on the "new year" bandwagon of healthy eating and exercise, so I will be surrounded by like-minded individuals for at least a month :P. It's a great time to ride the motivational coattails of a friend to give your mind a rest from the constant temptation of bad food and drink.

Kris, I didn't find anything I wanted :\. It's a shame because there are some Inov-8 barefoot shoes for ~$40. I wouldn't have minded giving them a try for $40! I did order some of these on sale for $79 though. I needed something new. I am retiring my trusty old Nike 4.0 v3 to trail running and tough mudders :). They've carried me well over the hill with 158 miles recorded plus others that I didn't record. I'm betting close to 200 miles...I know...I know.

Only a couple more days until we can escape this target rich environment. New Year's Eve may be problematic. Also, New Year's day as it is my wife's birthday. I must hang tough.

You are so right! Target rich environment is tough.
TJ: I don't care what Melissa & Dallas say. It's hard! Lol

Yea, I know it's hard. I know it will be challenging, we can all get it done!

I got my good, homemade dressing ready to go!

I also got a couple of new, awesome dressing bottles. I've been using hot sauce bottles, but these OXOs are really nice.

It's Tuesday today, right? Very long night of not much sleep.

2014 is almost done. Only two more days until Jen's January Jaunt. :)

Kris, Snoopy does have eyes but apparently he needs a haircut. :) Hey everybody, party of Kris' house! She's got Diet Coke, enough for all of us!!!

Happy Tuesday Folks! Got to head in a bit early today for a meeting. Doing a Root Cause Analysis on Hospital Mental Health Program. Can't say much more due to HIPPA but safe to say I'd rather have a Dentist Appointment.

Chris - Good Monday even if you weren't feelin it.

Yepper its definitely a Target Rich Environment out there. Plus with all the use, your No Gun may occasionally Jam especially with a hot barrel and chamber. Some of the older models jam a bit more often than the younger ones. Good News is some of us will trade in our old ones for a Whole 30 model, I've used them before and they are prone to jam when you are getting used to them, but once you are proficient, they work better than most.

Tj, Carol, Kris, and Jen, Things that are worth doing are hard. By doing the hard things, you grow stronger in Body, Mind and Spirit. This first battle of the year, is not about restriction, it is about freedom. Freedom to choose what is in your food, freedom to know how things affect you. Freedom to make a better choice that works for YOU in all of your remaining days, by Feb 1st you will have the knowledge, and knowledge is power, and power is FREEDOM!.

Be proud of those miles! I went out this morning and was cold and it isn't technically cold for our region. Great to hear that you have others joining you for the "new year"! It helps tremendously.

As for the pants I wanted, they weren't in my size:( I have wanted these and they are sold out all over the place. theclymb.com/women/13850/women-s-lg/show-product/142407?path=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.theclymb.com%2Fwomen%2F13850%2Fwomen-s-lg%3Fpage%3D5http:// Bummer. I will keep my eye on the site. Not like I can ski right now. Those shoes are great. I need to buy some that have more cushion. These are the shoes I love for trails, but not easy on me on roads. asicsamerica.com/Genders/Womens/GT-2000%E2%84%A2-2-Trail/p/0010198304.9736

Hey Jonny! Hope your wife has a great birthday:)

TJ, I want that OXO container. We use those glass ones that came with kits we purchased ages ago. The leak down the side and it drives me crazy.

Jen, Party??? I better get cleaning! haha I am going strong preparing for the Jaunt. Four miles done outside this morning. Yeah, I DID IT and am shooting for doing it daily until I get back to work. Helps to build the habit! The boyfriend was mystified by me being awake at 4:45.

Love it John! I can't wait for that freedom. Reminds me of when I quit smoking. Aside from the physical freedom, the not being gripped by the desire that feels uncontrolled is so liberating:)
  • Kris, my way of preparing for the Jaunt is continuing to sit on my butt. I don't want to tire myself out too much before January 1st. I want to be fresh and ready to go!

Kudos to you for getting out so early and in the cold. 19 degrees this morning when I came to work. I am NOT looking forward to those kind of temperatures for the Jaunt, but I set the challenge. I won't fail!

Haha! Get off your butt and do a warm up walk in place :p It was 15 degrees this morning and I am not embarrassed to say that I wimped out and wore my puffy coat. All you could hear was the swoosh, swoosh of my arms moving. You won't fail. We will be champions. I hear Queen playing our theme song https://youtube.com/watch?v=04854XqcfCY

Kris, you always make me smile. Jeez, I need to make sure I can still wear the jacket I used to wear when I was out walking. I sure hope I can zip it up over my big belly. :open_mouth:

TJ - good for you making dressings! I still need to try your ranch recipe. I'm in a plain Jane olive oil & lemon juice rut. I love it, it's great when I travel ( carry packets of olive oil). But need some variety.

Chris - my hubby and son have a pair of those Nikes and love them.

Kris- very cool that you're looking at StrongLifts 5x5. It looks like a great, simple program to build strength. Have you downloaded the app? I used it yesterday for my first workout. Has timers for between sets. I like that. Started a bit higher than starting squat weight as it said to use 50% of 5 rep max. So did 55# versus the 45 starting. For others used suggested. But I've been training fairly consistently. I think starting weight suggestions are for beginner guys, and may need to be dialed back a bit for a beginning female.

And I am surprisingly sore today. Not the barely able to sit on pot sore but can feel it, esp. Quads. Which is odd DOMS usually doesn't lick in for me for 36hours.

Weighed this am, as won't be able to weigh in morning (morning of CarbNite). Kiddo and I taking train down to Chicago overnight. He wants to spend Christmas money, and we enjoy exploring city. Back in am in time for New Year's Eve, hubby's bday and CarbNite.

Oh was up half a pound this morning for the week. Which I'll take given Christmas excesses and 4 nights of carbs (plus this soreness)

Kim & Kris -- I've heard some great things about 5x5 from friends who've tried it. Another one is Starting Strength. Both are really great beginning programs. For DOMS I used to take BCAAs to help recover. You can get them online. It might be all in your head, but I always felt like my DOMS were less because of them.

Kris, I hated that drip, that's why I got these. Plus, I wanted something that closed more securely and was bigger than most of the cruets you see. We bought one of those kits JUST for the bottle, and the dang thing didn't even have a lid! These have the little pour spout, so it shouldn't drip much. Plus, it's 12 oz, rather than the 8-10 of others.

Kim, this Greek Dressing is super awesome, and even easier than the ranch. It's also on the Healthy Recipes thread. What I did for a while was keep a bottle of olive oil and a bottle of balsamic vinegar at my desk and use that. If you want to mix it up, but simply, try that out.

Oh, and I forgot to mention, I ate regular ranch at my mom's house on Christmas, and it was horrible! She always buys Hidden Valley, which is the only one I'll eat, and it just tasted bad. Like I was gaining pounds from just a little dip of the stuff! Never again!!!!

And then there were five! So far these are the folks who have checked in every single day in December thru 12/30. They have one more day to go!
Have to say that I am SUPER impressed with everyone else! Just because you missed a day and not in the running, you're still here helping to motivate others and getting something for yourself out of this site (hopefully.) I appreciate the heck out of each of you... all 30 days or just here and there: you've done a great deal to make my December inspiring instead of defeating. THANK YOU everyone.
    So these are the contenders:
    HmrJmr1
    Beerbikegirl
    heronh
    Kilosierra83
    Artyro

Again - BIG THANK YOU to everyone checking in. I am hoping this continues well past Dec 30th as we have some motivation to share that will come in quite handy in January!

Haven't been doing the CNS protocol but have been doing the IF and pushing carbs to the evening.

Snow on the ground. Treadmill cleaning kit shipped today so I'm still without. I want to go see that movie Unbroken, but I'm worried if I watch it without an outlet to run after I will freak out.
  • 13% carbs today and under calories. I just might be able to do this. Need to add more exercise, I guess.

Woo Hoo ... last day of 2014! New Year's Eve is here!!
  • December 31st, 2014. In my neck of the woods, only 20 and a half hours left until it's 2015! Woohoo!!!!

Everybody, have a safe time if you are going out to parties and the like tonight. Of course the obvious, don't drink and drive. Call a friend, call a cab, you know the drill. :) I won't have to worry about that as I'll just be home snuggled up under my blankets probably having a nightmare about my first Jaunt tomorrow. :scream:

blindboyjonny, welcome to the group as I see you're fairly new (and your post here is the first I've seen from you). Add more exercise - that's why I started a challenge in January, just for that purpose. I have been very lazy for quite sometime now, so this is my jump start to being more active.

Ok, I better get ready for work, even though I truly have no desire to go in today (not sure if I have lingering flu effects or what but I'm still not feeling 100%). I'll survive though.

    Ta ta for now!
