I tried to track my path in the mall at work, but it didn't work. The Run Keeper app says that you need a clear view of the sky for it to work.

Windy and cold here but I have to go for a walk today.....

That said, today's jaunt may just be of the airport pacing variety. Not due to cold, but my schedule...just no time for an outside walk. Usually I get a good 30-45 minutes of dedicated walking in the airport before my plane...my no sitting rule. Hmmm, wonder if phone or fitbit gps can track in airport, would love to know how far I walk.

I walk in airports all the time and the gps seems to work well. Fitbit definitely still tracks steps. FYI, if you fly 1000 miles the gps doesn't record that even if you walk on the plane. ;)

Today was a good day. No cravings. Not as much water today, as I was busy doing some other things (but still got in 64oz) and closed out the food diary. All FB challenge boxes marked except the exercise one. Woohoo!!!!

Hey ladies and gentlemen! Just stopping in quickly to apologize for not posting on the chat and accountability thread. I have a ton of posts to get through. It has been a crazy couple of days and been stressed keeping up with stuff. This is what happens when I return to work. I will try and catch up after dinner (I am starved). Rock on all!

Enough of that. I did not get 6 hours of sleep (just over 5). Today will be a good day though.

Heron and I are on our own for a while as Jef Fry Nutrition is taking a long hiatus. But I think we now know enough to manage and tweak our diet on our own. My plan is to reign in the daily protein ... ideally no more than ~50g/day and zero to ultra low carb while eating as much fat as I want. Also going to spread CN out to every 10-11 days ... possibly every 2 weeks. As for CN itself, it's going to be more of a high glycemic carb dinner and a high glycemic dessert/treat than a whole night. I may also use Carb Shock to further enhance the insulin spike. See how that goes for a couple of months.

But to kick things off for this new year I'm be doing a full 2 week ULC induction. So I will have my first CN on Jan 17th. Then on the 18th I leave for Las Vegas for a week, returning on the 25th. Being away from home, and having to eat out definitely makes ULC a challenge.

Also going to attempt to exercise regularly. Making no promises, but hopefully Heron can keep me motivated.

wonderful Wednesday Folks! Got up at my normal 0445 or so did my daily eval of how I feel and went back to bed. Got nearly 7 hrs of total sleep so feelin pretty good at the moment.

Arturo - Sounds like a good plan. Have fun at Vegas.

Kris - Keep Calm and Post when U can. No worries eh..

Jen - Very Cold up your way a balmy 35 here this morning but the hard freeze is moving in tonight, 17 is the expected low. Will probably have to wrap my knees for a couple days to preserve mobility. If I don't; then I look like a midget on short stilts when I walk. Not to mention my background chronic pain index heads up from a 4/10 to about a 7. Wrapping them keeps it down to about the 5-6 range. Never doubt folks that at some time in your life you will pay for your metabolic sins. Eat right, move right, sleep right. Earlier you do, the easier it will be.

Good morning MFP/Fat2FitHQ peeps. Don't post too much but I have a question about my newly acquired FitBit. I am a bit obsessed currently and am trying to make my 10000 steps if it kills me! Anyway- this is more of a question about other people in some of my fitbit groups. How on earth does someone accumulate 300000 steps in January averaging 26 miles a day?!? Now, I want to give people the benefit of the doubt but my natural inclincation (being from NJ) is that these people are cheating somehow. Can someone enlighten me- I wouldn't to besmirch these people without due cause.

Well 26 mi per day is pretty difficult, the dedication to accomplish that would have to be very rare or from an elite athlete in a pretty crappy training plan. Never the less, who are they fooling? If no money invloved they are only kidding themselves. But to answer the question fitbits can be fooled, by rockig chairs, and if yiu wear it on your wrist hand and arm gestures. I tuck mine in my sock (I have a flex) because I do a lot of arm movment in my job. That way a step is a step.

Glad you stopped by hang out more often lad.

Carol - Very Koo-EL so you can take it with you? Zippered tote bag? You'll have to get out the suitcase sized handbag from when the kids were toddlers. to haul around the coffee, good thing you're on whole 30 cause you'd need an extra pocket for the cream and succralose... :D

Tnorkus- yeah I see some of that too. Granted there are people who are on their feet and moving all day. Others may be doing the things John mentions ( or playing piano). IVery been wearing a fit bit for nearly four years. I'm a huge fan. But...you must know that they are a guide / directional. Neither the fitbit nor your body are an exact science in calories burned... My fitbit motivates me to move, to get good sleep....but I never stress over is it exact. And I defriend folks who are so obviously not portraying real movement.

Let's just say you can put the fitbit in a clothes dryer on "fluff" and let it go all day. The 300,000 steps is very possible (30 days @ 10,000 per), the 26 miles per day doesn't jive with that number.
  • Carol, rock on! Awesome of TJ to send you a little pressie. :) Remember though, NO SPLENDA!!! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Somebody is going to have to explain these FitBit thingies to me. Are they GPS enabled is it more like a pedometer, using stride length to estimate distance? I use my phone and the Endomondo app, since it uses GPS to determine where and how far I'm going. The calories burned is a bit high (I have compared it in the past when I used to wear a heart monitor) but I love the app.

Hey guys was doing some surfing online and found a kickstarter that I thought was interesting. Here's the link.

It's a band that you wear on your wrist (like the LiveStrong ones) and you flip it after you have accomplished your goal. It's pretty cool. The guy said that he originally just put a rubber band on his right wrist and every day when he did his task he would move the rubber band to his left wrist. Same concept, no investment. Let me know what you guys do to remind yourself to exercise, drink water, etc,.

Jennifer, fitbit are activity monitors, they take in a bit more movement than the typical pedometer. There are now several models which have increased features as you move through the line. All but the basic one have altimeters, so can read your "stairs" climbed. The new ones are more like a watch with that plus time. The top two include all day heart rate monitoring, and the Surge which I just got has GPS built in ( not always on, only when tracking a run, walk or hike.

Endomondo on your phone is a great way to track walks, bikes etc. I also like the mapmywalk/run/fitness apps.

John, they aren't THAT large. Probably about the size of a 20oz bottle. Maybe a little larger around. There's even a cap that you can buy that allows you to store your grounds in the plunger part, so you don't need a separate container for coffee. It would probably hold enough for 2 or 3 cups, depending on how strong you take it.

Thanks Kim. I'm not sure I want my entire life monitored (oh wait, I'm on the internet, it already is - hehehe). I'll stay with my Endomondo since I know what to expect from it. :)

Thought I would step in and check on everybody. Yep, I am still kicking around here. I am slowly getting more comfortable with all the life changes. Plus side is that I stuck to my food intake during the last 2 months, so my weight has basically stayed the same (huge for me).

Okay, here's a pic of it next to a 16oz water bottle. A good bit wider, but much shorter.
