Keto flu?

I have been LCHF since Monday. I was already kinda LC for about a month but wasn't tracking and had many cheats throughout the holidays. I am in ketosis since taking a reading with a ketostick yesterday. This morning and a bit yesterday I felt nauseous and almost like a hot flash. I hadn't had breakfast yet but had a coffee with cream. Is this keto flu, is this normal? How long would this last. I don't want to get discouraged as the plan is working well.
I really hope I am not getting sick (cold) sick.
TIA

Are you supplementing with sodium, potassium, and magnesium? If not, you're going to feel like *kitten*.

Using Morton's Lite Salt will help keep your potassium, magnesium, and sodium levels up.0

Fairly important that we pick the right type of salt, not processed. I don't know, but the words "Lite Salt" point to processed perhaps?

What you're describing is totally normal and exactly what I went through. It's different for everyone but mine only lasted through day 4 maybe 5 and then was gone and afterwards started feeling AMAZING. Started taking a multivitamin w/ potassium and magnesium and made sure to eat lots of salt.0

I don't know how processed the Morton's Lite Salt is, but it has the ingredients that I think I need. I figure multi-vitamins are processed also, but have ingredients that are hard to get through food alone. I am not an expert, so may be wrong. I mainly use Himalayan Pink Salt, but suppliment w Morton's for the extra minerals.

keto flu sucks. I am also going through a bout of self-induced holiday keto flu. I've basically felt uber hungover, inflamed, bloated and ornery as all get out since Monday. Just this evening I've started feeling better...thank god. I use morons lite salt every work day for potassium. on weekends, when i'm home from travel, I do it via veggies. If you want to go au naturale....the top potassium winners (per 1C serving) are Beet Greens, Swiss Chard, spinach, bok choy, beets and brussels sprouts. mmm mmm good. yet another reason to eat those greens0

Here's a good ref:
'What is “keto flu” and how long will I have it?'
'How do I replenish electrolytes?'

hrm. TQ, your ref mentions 1000mg potassium, for some reason i thought it should be closer 3000-4000mg.0

i know i'm not getting my magnesium, nor enough potassium. I left my mag at home this week. duh. I think the effect was cumulative. I ended up awake the majority of the evening with foot cramps. grr.

Yes, their reference is different,
or it's an error, bcuz the
IOM recommend is 4700mg/day:

Similar here. One rough week and one mild week. After the second week the driving carb cravings had left and no more sugar crashes and head aches but I did cut out the grains as well as sugar.

V8 also has high amounts, and Low Sodium does as well, although I think taste suffers. There are also Lima beans, and if they are logged correctly on MFP any type of vegetable or fruit has it or even meats sometimes. I look for entries posting ANY potassium reading. I had a true blood deficiency so I had to be ON it. For example, spring mix HAS potassium but not all entries show that. Same with tomatoes and any veggies and meats. If you eat fruit, dried apricots, although they are sugary.0 -
Its pretty awful, because they usually come on just as I'm falling asleep. I'm a fidgeter too (RLS), so that doesn't help. I'm actually looking forward to my CSA this week....hoping for beets so I can have the greens...haha. I'd bake off the beets for that man I married, sauté the greens for myself. or put them in salad.0 -
I use the chelated forms of my mineral supplements for increased bioavailability of the mineral, in my case, calcium and magnesium. I get my potassium mostly from food sources like those mentioned above as well as avocados. If needed I add Lite Salt from Morton's for sodium and potassium and sea salt or pink Himalayan salt for the additional trace minerals. I have lost 39 pounds since going Keto at the beginning of the year in order to achieve my new year resolution to improve my health and get in shape.0
