Set Back

Hello. I've been doing the c25k and have unfortunately suffered a minor set back...I tripped on a honkey nut (one of the many Australian obsticles) and twisted my ankle. I have been listening a pod cast and upto week 7. My ankle is starting to feel a little better and am so ready to get going again. How have you gotten back into the rhythm?

Take it slow on your first time out again. You'll pick up the rhythm again soon.0

PaytraB thank you for your kind words and solid advice. Lucky you stepped in, otherwise I was just going to keep jibber jabbing to myself! How are you going in the c25k?0

I graduated a couple of years ago. I'm still slow, still running and still having fun.
You can do this and its so worth it. There's nothing like a run in the sunshine to make you feel really good.....even treadmill runs make you feel good; they just require a bit more determination.0 -
You are awesome PaytraB! I really appreciate your words of wisdom and love the fact you are a veteran c25k offering support
I have two small children and taking our dog for a run is a luxury as it is time that is purely for me.
Each time I get back home from a run i am a darling lobster red colour, completely drenched in sweat and puffing so much i cant talk but you are totally right it makes me feel good because I've earned it.
Thank you again x0 -

LOL! This brings back memories. There's nothing like that lobster-red colour, sweat and panting to make you feel like you're fit.
If you truly can't speak a sentence, slow down a little bit. It'll help you in the long run.
Keep running. How's your ankle coming along?0 -
The old ankle is not too bad. The swelling has gone down and I managed to go for a run this afternoon. My strategy was to go back to week 5 and build up again from there. Good news: I didn't fall over!
I was so grumpy today. The run has put me in a much better mood. It's the first time in my life that I have acknowledged how much of an impact exercise makes on my mood.
Why did you start the program?0 -
I may be stating the obvious, and you may already be doing it, but you might consider wrapping the injured ankle or getting some kind of ankle brace or support while you get back into jogging again. I injured my ankle badly a couple years ago when I first attempted C25k, and the doctor advised using extra support as I got back into walking distances again. I guess when you sprain your ankle, it weakens the muscles and stuff, so it can leave you more prone to another injury. It depends on how badly it was injured in the first place, of course.
Finally, good for you for getting right back to it! I get the lobster-red color, too.0 -
IndigoSue any and all advice is totally welcome here with me. I used an ankle brace on my run which was very comfortable during the run but not so for walking. I am so greatful to have found a c25k community with people that are trying and those that have succeeded and kind enough to be so supportive.
This should make you smile: My mother has never sweated in her life but turns red whereas my father sweats profusely. Guess who inherited both!0 -

Glad to hear your ankle is doing better! I also turn lobster red while running. Hopefully that will stop once I'm in better shape.0

Jess how long ago did you start running?
I'm secretly hoping the same thing about it just being a matter of fitness but let's face it, my chances are low lol.
I actually have a number of other hurdles I have to deal with apart from becoming red and sweaty. Because it is so hot here I can't run without leggings on otherwise i get chaffing (awesome!). Also I have...um...voluptuous boobs and when i sweat the bra line will become irritated and If I don't watch out that then turns into a skin fungal problem (awesome x2).
Perhaps too much information? Sharing is caring right!?! If anyone has these Issues or possible suggestions, I'm all ears0 -
I haven't used it (haven't needed to - yet), but I've read elsewhere that a product like Body Glide really helps with chafing. Here's the website with some info.

I started my first day on Wednesday, lol! So, yeah I am a total noob. I'm doing day 2 tonight and I'm really looking forward to it. It has given me a renewed excitement in both exercising and my healthy eating. My "ladies" are also quite voluptuous. I actually have to wear my regular bra with a sports bra over it to give me enough support. BTW - sharing IS caring! And I don't think there is such a thing at TMI on MFP.0

Thank you indegoSue! I will try this and see if it helps. It's just so hot here at the moment.
Good on you Jess! Seriously I think it's never too late to start and never too hard to pick up again. You may suffer set backs (or not!!!) just don't feel under pressure to complete it in the 9 weeks. Go at your own pace and just keep going. Good luck and keep me updated on your progress!0 -
Body glide really does work. Apply liberally and avoid the chafe!
You should be able to get away with some lycra/compression shorts rather than leggings too, to help avoid chaffing. Might be a little more comfortable temperature wise.0 -
I'm loving all of this wonderful advice and I am totally investing in some of this stuff!0
