Since its almost tomorrow, I'll pre-date this thread.
What can I/we do to make this group more lively? Maybe invite some more people in?
This week I going to post some stuff about weight, food, and exercise goals. I love the social club part of this group because you're all lovely, but I don't want to lose track of why we're here.
Sound like a plan?

I think it might not hurt to get a few more people in here who have certain similarities with us (fun people who are seeking to improve their fitness and take control of their health). I have a buddy that I will try to get on here. He has lost over a hundred pounds, but he has recently started having a few struggles with motivation. I think this group might be perfect for him.
I also think it is a good idea to talk a little bit more about the health aspects of our lives. I don't mean the other portion should stop because I really enjoy that part as well. I do like to hear about what is happening in all of your lives, but Karen, I think that you are right to remind us about why we are all members of this group.
On that note I am grateful that tomorrow (today) is President's Day because it means I have the day off and it means that we will be able to spend some time playing tennis. It is a month earlier than the weather normally allows, but tennis season is here!0 -
Thanks, Zac! I'll get cracking then. It's completely self-serving, you know! I neewd the support to stay on track!
You're playing tennis outside??? Our windchill is -28 today. Aaarrgghhhhhh.0 -
I have to admit...I think one of the reasons I have slacked is because I was losing focus on what this group is about. And it was an easy excuse to let myself slide. I love the idea of challenges to keep up the motivation, but I just can't wrap my head around anything longer than a week, maybe two, before I become bored with it. And I am in no way trying to throw blame on anyone here for the long challenges or the "social" aspects... I am saying I used it as an excuse to not be diligent about being here.
I need to kick myself in the frozen *kitten* and get back at this. Maine winters are just a thing around here, but it's all come in about a 3 week span and that just makes me want to crawl up in a ball and eat comfort foods alllll dayyyyy lonnnng! We are used to the snow and cold, but these last 3 weeks have SUCKED!!
So I like the idea about the health, weight, food ideas etc, becoming more of a focus again.
That's my 2 cents worth!

Awesome, Diana! I'll do my best to be a motivator. And YES, this b winteer has been horrifying.
Are you interested in trying an aquasize class at the Y? I can probably get you a free pass.

Sounds like a positive plan to me. For a while this group was down to just about two of us! So it became more of a "Hi...how are ya doing" site, but I am like Zac, I like to see how everyone is doing in their neck of the woods.
I am all for more motivation, as I certainly need it as I had gained weight over the holidays and it has not come off like it should have, purely due to lack of motivation.
Maybe part of a challenge would be to each of us find one article or item a week and discuss the pros and cons...sort of stimulate our thought process, low carb vs high carb, or taking mega supplements, etc, etc !! Or what type of weight loss plan works for each of us (not that anything is working for me right now!), but something along that line.
I wish it was 20degrees here....coz walking home from work yesterday it hit 85 F at
4 pm, which means if we keep this up....the summer is going to be one hot, horrible, sweaty, catastrophe!!0 -
Hello my friends. The wedding was absolutely amazing. Our church family really pulled through for us. I'll post some pictures after I get them. The last 2 days I've been a complete bum. I was so exhausted from the rush and I didn't know just how much till the wedding was over. And then today we got 6 inches of snow and it's colder than a witch's behind so I stayed in all day. I'm flexible with the group. I'm all for motivation, lol0

Oh Dee!! Congratulations. I'm so happy your big day was terrific!!!
Nancy, I like that idea of posting articles. I'm really interested in starting weight training since all I do is cardio, so I'm going to look for some articles on the benefits of weight training. On Wednesday, I'm having dinner with a former student who is now a yoga instructor, and I'm going to set up a couple of private lessons in exchange for my editing and critiquing her writing. I've wanted to do this for a year, but my weight and joint pain stopped me. Now I think I'll be ready handle it in the spring.
I'm struggling a bit foodwise. It's really easy to eat crackers and chips with my gastric sleeve, which I never really ate before, because they dissolve and slide right through. Jim is a chipaholic, so I'm going to ask him to put them where I can't see them. I still haven't tried anything with sugar, but for Valentine's I did make a sugar free (boxed) "poke" cake with sugar free peach jello and sugar free coolwhip. Ohhhhh.. Big mistake. We both got horrible gas and cramps from the sugar alcohols, at one point I was on one toilet praying for death while Jim was on the other, clutching the seat so he wouldn't launch. Thee whole house smelled like sulphur. So much for romance. Hahahahahaha!
Nancy and Zac, I'm so glad you held down the fort for my absent months. I don't think I'll disappear again unless I win the lottery, in which case you'll all be invited to board my sailboat for the round the world trip.
Smooches,
K.
