Ugh! Such misunderstanding by people

regarding my new lifestyle. First response I get from people when I tell them about Keto diet: "Ohhhh, but I don't want to do high protein diet" OK!!! This is NOT a high protein diet, this is LCHF, I have to go and explain everything in details how things work. Some are intrigued and some just roll their eyes. Whatever, go eat your sugar and *kitten* about how you can't loose your weight

I have only talked to a couple people about it. My little neighbor across the street with PCOS and her Mom. Another friend of mine totally does not get it. She says she does not want to give up sugar but she gives up butter and fat and eats as low cholesterol as possible. Yum Hello. I would rather give up the carbs=one thing verses all the things she is trying to stay away from and her cholesterol is sky high still. I live a very sheltered hermit type life here in the middle of nowhere. I think the only ones that know I have lost weight is my husband and doctor. Well of course all of you here.
Let them eat cake is my motto. I give up trying to explain to people much of anything. If any one should ask I just will say I have given up carbs=sugar and not go into it. Unless some really wants to learn I feel like I am beating my head against the wall.0 -
I agree, let them eat cake! I still try to point the benefits and if people are not totally brainwashed about USA nutrition and what has been pounded to them for many many years, they will listen and do their own research, otherwise it's pointless.0

Day 24 for me and all I've told anyone is that I'm on an elimination diet to cure heartburn. Hopefully time will pass by and nobody will notice I'm still doing that! If they do, there should be results enough by then to tell more
I've had one smart*rse comment about "Look how much butter SHE'S got!" from a 'slimmer than me' cousin, but who cares? She's always got some comment about anything I do.0 -

I agree and add. I would say, don't give unsolicited advice about the diet. But if someone asks me, I tell them unashamedly. But the difference is, I have lost 60+ lbs, so if they disagree, they have to argue against success. With that being said, I think itcphotog hasn't achieved the results yet. So it is much more difficult for her to convince anyone. In that case, she should follow your advise.
As soon as she loses the weight, she can revisit the rude people and have the last laugh...

I am only 2 weeks in from cutting carbs and when I talk to people about it I hear these things constantly
"how do you survive?!" - they act like I am totally deprived and miserable. NO! I am eating MORE now than I used to, my energy levels are way up and my blood sugar (I am type 2 diabetic) are finally in the normal zone.
(when going out to eat) - "Where are you allowed to go?" - Um anywhere you are "allowed" to go? I can eat anywhere - just make better choices! Burger with no bun, salad instead of fries. I even went to a noodle house and had it over bean sprouts instead of noodles.
"When you start eating NORMAL again your going to gain all your weight back". Um, this is my NORMAL now. Why would I start eating the stuff that was making me feel like crap and really killing me (with diabetes) again?
I just sit there and think to myself, you go ahead and eat all that stuff if that's what makes you "happy". I used to think it made me happy too. Now move over and give me my meat and veggies!0 -

I don't explain anything, I simply tell people where to read more. Over the years, the location is changed, but the info is all generally the same. If they're actually interested, they'll do it themselves. If they're just being nosy/curious, I don't have to waste my time or theirs trying to figure out how much they already know to decide where to start explaining.0 -
goat is right! don't talk about it. outside my hubby, when folks ask me, I tell them the old standby from the main forums "I eat less and move more". shuts them right up because they don't want to hear it, it IS true technically, and I've lost over 40 lbs since June, so I don't think they have a leg to stand on with any argument. the details about low carb high fat are OUR LITTLE SECRET. Shhhh!0

I sometimes tell people that I found a magic fat-burning pill. I tell them it's $500 for a week's worth, but they really work if you take them and follow the meal plan they give you.
Edit: This is usually when I know people won't listen anyway. I tell them I can't tell them what the pill was unless they buy a month's supply from me first.0 -

The first reaction I always get is "oh, that's too expensive!" Never mind the fact that we don't really spend any more money on food now than before.
The "when you go back to eating normally..." thing always bugs me when I hear it, largely because it illustrates the myth that this is some "fad" diet, and they talk about it to others, or worse, they try it and treat it like a fad, then go back to their old ways after losing 10-20lbs (in which case, they do gain it back, since that was only water weight) and talk about that to their friends, which further perpetuates that myth.0 -
I'm such an extrovert and so excited that I've got everyone close to me on the bandwagon, or at least considering. Some are even losing faster than I am. I tried to lose weight for about two years just staying under 1200 calories with absolutely no change. Some of my friends and family had to listen to me moan and groan then about working so hard and not losing. Now that I'm actually losing, they can't help but be happy that at least I'm blabbing on about something positive (even if they don't agree with my methods).0

@Dragonwolf I get frustrated with that, too!! If LCHF/Keto was a fad, why was it around long before this Low Carb and WW and all that jazz??? GRR....
And @Siberianmomma I'm so with you! I've put everyone on blast. I'll tell anyone and everyone (even total strangers). No one's jumped on board with me yet, but everyone is open-minded, except my fiance, but he's eating this way without realizing it... LOL People may listen just not to be rude, but if I say one thing that resonates with someone, who knows what we can change!0 -
thanks to everyone for the insightful comments! I am new here. Now I know not to discuss keto with anyone! Your experiences are enlightening. I found people do not ask how you lose weight anyway, especially if it interferes with their own beliefs.

@BetterBalancedMe2015 I could not possible agree more! I feel a million times better, have the energy, the mental clarity, have banished the cravings...but those things they can't see. But my body shrinking? That they'll notice! And, as you said, this is what FINALLY works for me, so to each his/her own!0

I used to get the "when you go back to eating normally" comments. But, I think they're starting to realize there is no going back for me. I'm in this for the long haul. If anything, I've gone even more over the edge than when I just started.

Goat, I've been meaning to ask, how does your WOE work at your house w/ your wife? I remember reading one time where you'd posted that she does better w/ veggies than you do, so she eats more...but is she low carb/keto as well? Just curious what mealtimes look like (when it's just you two, not the visiting inlaws, too).0
