Hi, my name is Sarah. I was diagnosed in 2002 with type 2 diabetes. I, unfortunately, was placed on Novolin and Novolog this week. My main fear is weight gain, second is good control. I weigh about 130 lbs and am 5'2" (size 8) and a young 33 years old. Recently, married. I am having problems with being on the low end. I am actually hypersensitive to insulin. If you have tips for foods that help level sugar, that would be most welcome. My lowest so far is 53 and highest is 150. (On orals, much worse and used to only being able to eat small amounts at a time.) One note, I keep kosher and have to be low/no gluten. Thanks, and looking forward to making friends.

Hi Sarah and welcome to the group. One of the really frustrating things about Diabetes is that it is a very individual condition. What causes a sugar spike for you may not cause me to spike. I would make two suggestions, buy a glucose meter and use it to identify any foods which cause you to spike. You can then avoid these or at least treat them with caution. The second suggestion is to do as much reading as you can for knowledge is power. Some of the advice we tend to get given is highly questionable and if you are knowledgeable about Diabetes you can exercise discernment. I suggest Blood Sugar 101 by Jenny Ruhl as a good place to start. Take your time to read over the various threads but exercise caution on anything that appears to be too prescriptive. When you're ready to ask questions you will find lots of people in this group who will be willing to share their experience. I wish you well on your journey to a healthy and active life.0

Hi Sarah, I was diagnosed in 2001. I am on Lantus and Humalog insulin and metformin. I hate being low. I've been down to 45 twice this month and felt horrible.0

Hi All...I'm Evon T2 for about 8 years, I believe. I recently had to seek the help of a endocrinologist bc my primary care doctor could not seem to control my BS. For some reason it had gotten uncontrollable and I wasn't doing anything different. However since seeing this specialist and the help of a combo of meds along with Lantus I seem to be seeing change. My goal on MFP is to lose weight and hopefully eliminate some of the medication. Forget to mention I was started on Cholesterol medication as well last month. Glad I was steered to this group...this is what I've been searching for.0

....glad to share and hear personal stories. It is helpful. I was diagnosed in my late 30s with T2 and changed my medication a few times already. My lesson is: keep going, be positive, diabetes is very hard to handle but it is in own control unlike other horrible medical conditions. good luck!0
