I do. I trained in Gracie Barra BJJ for about 8 months last year until my instructor moved. I would still be doing it if I had an instructor.0

I love doing ground work. I never used to though. Maybe I don't suck at it as much now that is why?!0
-
Hands up!
I train in MMA.0 -
I train MMA, but we do some grappling. But we don't have ranks in BJJ. I have competed in 3 grappling tournaments and do enjoy it!0

Love watching MMA and have lots of respect for BJJ. Unfortunately, no schools in my area!
Not a problem though as I train in Jeet Kune Do at a gym right near my home.0 -
Yep train BJJ and have for the last 16 months, its ace0
-
Yes. Most of my weight loss up to this point is from grappling.0

Been addicted to BJJ for almost 4 years. One of my motivating factors for using myfitnesspal was so that I can compete in a lighter weight class.0

Also compare an hour of sparring to almost any other exercise , I find it's nowhere near as intense as sparring is0

I just finished my first month of Relson Gracie BJJ and I am hooked! I was using MFP a while ago but didn't commit, but now I want to get in better shape for BJJ. One month ago I weighed 268 lbs. I weighed myself tonight after open mat and was at 234 lbs. 34 lbs in one month! I can't get enough! Protect ya neck!0

BJJ -- the gift that keeps on giving.0

Been going strong for 3 or so years. Blue Belt rank in Jiu Jitsu and Judo0

I started last year I don't go much because I was too fat and uncomfortable at 257 pounds to move off my back. I lost 20 pounds if I can lose another 10 I should be able to move better. I prefer kickboxing for now till I get thinner.0

I started at 265 lbs. We have guys in the 300 lbs that train. The whole point of going is to get more comfortable with being on your back and moving, getting exercise and losing weight. I've lost 20 lbs doing a combo of BJJ and P90X. My flexibility is great and stamina is through the roof.
No matter what you start new, you won't be comfortable with it at first. Your body has to adjust and then it becomes easier and you are more comfortable.
So just get there man, you will reap the benefits. If you want to lose weight, BJJ is perfect. My core/abs have really benefited with BJJ as well.0 -
I get it in0

Heck yeah! I just started this past month and I friggin love it. I've been doing bodybuilding and swimming for a while, and I had been looking for a sport to use my endurance and strength.
The most important thing for me is that in the short time I've been practicing, it has strengthened my willpower, which is something I always strive to improve.0 -

I'm jealous, man. I've been able to grapple-spar for a month now and haven't lost anything. I'd love to lose even a few pounds from all of the stuff I've been doing. :grumble:
I love sparring, though. I'm like a crack addict with it.
I'm technically in Ninjutsu, but it includes what my instructor refers to as American Jiu Jitsu. It's a mix of a lot of stuff, but grappling is a pretty huge part.0 -
Been away from BJJ for 2 years, but had trained for 4 years before that and attained my blue belt. Only 20 lbs overweight, but my stamina and flexibility is GONE!0

Been doing it at the gracie academy down the street from my house. Been at it for a few years off and on. I've had a few amature fights.. To me its not a workout its training to be the best...Dream job would be fighting in the Cage as a professional. No other job, just training and fighting. That would be awesome0

My Wado Ryu instructor is also a BJJ blackbelt under Rickson Gracie and teaches BJJ here in Nashville. I plan on joining full time after some serious self improvement and some solid Wado skills. Can't wait1

I tried in BJJ for about 6 months after doing a year of judo and karate before that. I feel like my ground was the strongest of anything I had. Sadly, I had to quit due to a long drive to class and lack of funds. If something opened in town, I might be able to convince my wife that it's a good idea for me to get back into it... you know, to protect the family from potential mma-themed danger.0

I started with BJJ (Gracie Barra) last week as an addition to my Krav Maga.
I must admit that my ground fight and stamina is very low and I have muscle pain in legs, abs and back .. but I feel good because I will learn something new and burn a tons of calories.0 -
I crash Bjj classes when ever I can. If I can find a school that can fit my hectic schedules and doesn't conflict with my Judo or college I will pick it up.
The few classes I have taken has done wonders for my ground work and I have won a few matchs from sweeps into pins.0 -
Has anyone ever injured his ribs during BJJ. I fell on my oponents knee and I heard some strange sound. I have not broke rib (I suppose) ... it do not hurt much unless I try to rotate my torso.
I know I must rest a while ... If anyone has injured ribs on similar way, how long does this take, few days, week, two week? More?
Except resting, what can I do to speed up recovery ? Can something like Osteo-Bi-Flex be helpful?
Thanks0 -
I recommend having the doctor take a look. "Sounds" are not a good sign. While you may not have popped a rib, you may have strained/torn some muscle or tissure in your torso. Healing time vary especially if you insist on staying active or have medical trreatment.0

Judo + BJJ has taken my game to the next level! I began with gi-style BJJ, swtiched to no-gi/mma training, began Judo, then went back to gi-style BJJ. Since 2007, I have entered 4 tournaments in played in 5 divisions. I earrned 3 silver and 1 bronze in local BJJ tournaments. The only one I didn't medal in was a Judo tournament, in which I still placed 4th after 2 DQs in 6 matches. ( I instinctively went for an ankle pick in one DQ and supposedly repeated the offense in my next match.) This year my goal is at lease one more BJJ and at least two Judo tournaments. My focus is on capturing a Judo medal, which I have yet to achieve.0 -
I train kick boxing and mma, only just started mma about four months ago but absoloutly love the grappling in mma so intense.0

ME ME! Love jits. I prefer NoGi, but I don't mind working in the Gi. Helps me cut weight.0

I see it's an old thread but here goes nothing... I train with Kroyler Gracie in northwestern Indiana. Just over two years and still as addicted as my first class when I got choked 20 times. It's the best fitness and mental health program I could never have imagined prior to beginning.0

I train at Gracie BJJ in Rotterdam and in Gouda (Netherlands), sometimes do guest trainings when i travel, recently did a guest training at Gracie Barra Groningen.0
