Anyone else want to be able to dance in public without feeling self conscious? I do it anyway, but I always feel like a big oaf.

After Golden was born, Mark and I took dance classes. I was 5'8" and 230 and he was 6"5" and 300. We are the most uncoordinated graceless couple you would ever want to see. The teachers were a 5'2" blond hair blue eyed couple named Randy and Brandy. They tried so hard with us but you could tell it just pained them to watch us try to dance. Mark and I would laugh until we cried driving home after class. It was a riot. Needless to say we have never gone out dancing. But I can bust a move when I am at home by myself B)

I can't dance to save my soul but it doesn't stop me when I am alone! Kyli and I took Zumba together for a while but it started getting more popular and I got more self conscious and we stopped going... :'(

I love to dance! I have good rhythm but I'm not sure how "attractive" my dancing is!? ;) My boys always are like "Mom, stop you're embarrassing us." It makes me want to keep on grooving! :). This is why I'm loving my Zumba dance DVDs. Zumba makes me feel sexy!

Liz, Randy & Brandy! LOL! I'd love to take dancing lessons. My sister has what my mom calls "swivel hips", as in she is a natural dancer. I get out there & do the "white man overbite" & that's about it.

I love dancing but the last time I danced in public I could see everyone looking embarrassed for me, including my kids. I'm a very good dancer and forgot I had the extra kilos. So I am looking forward to dropping another dress size so that I can get my groove on again. I miss dancing a lot.

Its hard to dance in public, embarrassing. I dance very good but I will just slow dance for now with my partner until I look better getting my groove on.

Guys. I keep meaning to ask. Why is this thread called Shallow Hal? What does it signify?

I'm not positive because Noodle started it...but I believe it's because Noodle originally asked about things like clothes we wanted to be able to wear when we lost the weight...being a "shallow" reason to hit a goal...as opposed to for our health. Please correct me if I'm wrong Noodle!

You're right Cindy. Everyone tells you to lose weight for your health & that, of course is the main reason, but I have a list of other reasons besides health that I'm looking forward to doing as I get thinner. I thought of one the other day too: having a lap for my kitties to sit on. The term "Shallow Hal" is one that my boyfriend & I use, it's from the movie of the same name, in which we do or like things for shallow reasons.

    Thanks for explaining Noodle.
One of my shallow reasons is to fit into my wardrobe of pretty clothes I just could not get rid of!
