...and I broke my streak.

Fritos, bean dip, Dr. Pepper, and dark chocolate chips.

Multiple variables affected this, including TOM, food not being ready at dinner time, not eating enough during the day, feeling like crap (see TOM & being glutened Saturday), being braindead, and not moving much during the day. Also being home alone.

The good:
Still down a pound from yesterday
No indigestion or heartburn
TWO WEEKS LONGER THAN ANY OF MY PREVIOUS STREAKS

The bad:
Mild wrist pain
I broke my streak!

So, plan: MAKE A LONGER STREAK! Ta-da, the end.

Hey, now that you know it CAN really be done - it will be easier to repeat. Sounds like planning for emergencies/danger zones is what will help those hurdles. But congrats on making it that long!

And remember, hormones make us neurotic. It's not completely your fault. (hugs)

I've been doing <50 carbs for a bit over 4 months. I've hit 3 or 4 days where I've run over on carbs. These may cause some momentary blips but I don't think they are worth stressing over. The adaptation to a keto metabolism cause cellular changes that don't just disappear overnight.

There are some sites advocating a diet which attempts to adapt the body to using both blood sugars and blood lipids for fuel so that whatever you have available is what is used. I think that for those of us who have health issues caused by too many years of too many carbs this may be hard to achieve but I think it may be the WOE that most Americans had before the USDA started demonizing fat. "Food" for thought...

I usually eat things because I want to

All the complex web of reasons aside, I own it. I did it because I wanted to!

If I have hard core cravings it is usually because I am cutting back too much. That is just me.

What's wrong with dark chocolate chips?!

I don't think of eating in terms of "streaks" and nothing gets "broken" when I eat some carbs. If I want to make ketones again, I just do it. You have plenty of tools -- fasting, exercise, and, of course, eating fewer carbs. If you don't like fasting or exercise, just shoot for lower-than-average carb intake for the next couple days.

Your body can adapt to whatever you eat. The danger of thinking in terms of "streaks" is psychological. You've given yourself an excuse to continue eating carbs by thinking that way.

My restrictions are more than just carbs (and I'm rather high carb compared to most in this group). I've been reacting to lots of different kinds of food, and had gone 19 days without eating crap I wasn't supposed (except for when I got glutened at a restaurant). I'm not stressing over breaking, more celebrating that I hit my longest streak EVER...and making sure I put it out there that I'm going to continue doing it before my brain starts the "well, you ate this, you might as well eat what you want until the family comes back" crap.

It sounds like you're doing much better now and that you will be getting back on track. You do know that when you are glutened The pain and general malaise can cause cravings and the need for comfort foods. And the attack on your auto immune system will cause you to have more severe reactions to many other potentially inflammatory foods. It always makes for a very difficult week for me so I just hope you are taking good care of yourself and that you feel better soon!
