I started taking Vit E, Evening Primrose and a probiotic. I went up two pounds since I started and now I'm stuck. Anyone else experience this when starting new vitamins?

Weight loss is not linear. Some weeks you do everything right but maintain—or even gain. Others you lose a whole lot in a "whoosh."

Causation is not correlation—your gain has nothing to do with your supplements.

Have you read the Sexypants post? So much good "MFP 101" information: https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/1080242/a-guide-to-get-you-started-on-your-path-to-sexypants/p1

Yes I do know that. This is a menopausal group and I wondered if anyone else had the same thing happen. I was hoping not to get your type of response in this group.

Nope. I've been taking EPO for eons now and have never had an issue with the scale going up. I don't specifically take E, but I guess I'm not quite sure how it could cause the scale to go up.

Thanks Sabine. I have no idea either. I was just wondering. I'm a bit frustrated at the moment.

I haven't added any new supplements lately and the scale goes up more randomly and especially about 2 weeks before a period starts.

The past week I have been having hot flashes during the day. So far they have been only at night and only a few days before my cycle starts. The worse one so far was during a workout I thought I was going to catch on fire I was so hot!

In the end a few dietary changes and a supplement with black cohosh and dong quai kept most of my day time and night time hot flashes under control. I was actually pleasantly surprised.

    I'm using this one:

hot flashes in summer are not fun!

And yes, after many years of being able to predict day by day what fluctuations the scale will show, mine went utterly random for the last couple of years. The last two months it's been more cooperative again which is nice. But man, it can be frustrating!

Thanks Sabine I will keep the Mendopause in mind.

My eating the past week has not been as good as it should be. I know my body doesn't like refined sugar or white flour yet I still eat it at times. Usually when I'm stressed and the emotional eating kicks in and I get the I'll just have one mentality and 1 leads to 2..... and then I feel like crap, I get tired, headaches and I lose motivation.

It never ceases to amaze me how food and hormones can wreak such havoc on your body.

No Whoosh Fairy today. :( I thought I was done with the hot flashes, but they have come back. I have a Mirena in so I have no idea if I still have a cycle. I'm 53. Two 1/2 years ago, the Dr said I was in menopause and said not to replace it. When he took my old one out, I started again. So I had him put a new one back in. On a side note - I'm replacing the batteries in my scale I'm so frustrated. lol

You're so right! Deksgrl was just talking about this as well.

I've been "off" grains again for the last while and of course, I'm feeling better. I know this...you'd think I wouldn't keep forgetting. ha.

I've tried buckwheat flour which apparently isn't a flour but a seed that is ground. It's great in muffins and pancakes I just need to make some and freeze them so I have something readily available.

    Hi, all --
I face pretty much all of the same challenges discussed here. I am 51 and for the past six years it has been so much more difficult to keep my weight down (or keep it from rising) compared to earlier in my life! I would love to be each other's super-motivational cheerleaders if anybody would like to add me as a friend. I especially need encouragement not to eat after 8:00 and to skip that glass of wine or beer. Otherwise, my diet is pretty healthy and whole foods-oriented. I am pretty fit, but am currently struggling with some chronic back, hip and leg issues that make it hard to get intense exercise. Nice to virtually meet you all!
