Hay fever

So I've realized another wonderful benefit to our way of eating, my hay fever this year is 1/10 of what it's been in previous years. Usually nothing over the counter helped, would double and even triple recommended doses. This year a single piriton a day is helping. Though it was just a coincidence but twice in the last month I've gone over on carbs and suffered horribly for the next 24 hours sneezing, itching eyes the works.
So I googled it and others are reporting a reduction in hay fever too! I love my low carb life.
Anyone experienced this?

Yep. I found that I have a tolerance limit on dairy, too. If I go over, the hay fever comes back.0

Yep, also had a huge reduction in my general sinus related issues and my hayfever (had perennial allergic rhinitis better known as all year round hayfever) went from sometimes living on antihistamines and using nasal sprays and eye drops to get through my day to having not used them for the past 5-6 months. I also notice if I overdo the carbs or dairy my sinuses let me know about it pretty quickly.0

I've stopped using claritin and flonase since I don't need it anymore! I ate some mushrooms and onions last week (about a quarter cup sauteed in butter) and woke the next morning with the runny nose... No more for me!0

Yes, actually I noticed it when I stopped eating gluten. It has something to do with inflammation. I really love not having to take an antihistamine. Whenever I'm tempted I think of my eyes itching and my throat hurting. It cures it.0

Hehe I'm sad when hay fever goes as the antihistamines are a great appetite reducer!0

When I stopped eating gluten, I went from 12-14 sinus infections & 2-3 bouts of bronchitis a year to none for 5 years until the week before my wedding! I've had a few since then (I blame it on my hubby ), but nowhere near how it used to be. Allergies are better as well (and improving more now after I took more stuff out of my diet).0 -

A lot of foods hold mold spores, too (I've been told cantaloupe and other melons are the worst culprits of this by my allergist), so if you are sensitive to this, you might watch that.
Personally, I haven't noticed any ease of my allergy symptoms. I wish they would go, as I am tired of year round medicines!SlimBride2Be wrote: »Hehe I'm sad when hay fever goes as the antihistamines are a great appetite reducer!
Yet another mysterious side effect of medication I've never experienced... But then again, most of the side effects many experience are not things I deal with. Thank my dad for that. I metabolize meds quickly (they nearly always wear off at the 50-75% mark of time they should be effective) and the side effects are minimized....except once in a while, like with Metformin. That was amplified levels of the underworld. Thank gods above and below my doc okayed dropping it!0 -
I love how many benefits I keep finding! Woo hoo!!!0

Side effect of antihistamines for me was extreme drowsiness to the point it was like I had taken a sleeping pill, I just couldn't keep my eyes open. Couldn't take the non drowsy ones as they didn't seem to work. I had to take antihistamines at night to avoid falling asleep at my desk so I am very happy not having to take them anymore.0

great news - so much misery with hayfever. I used to be very sneezy, runny nose etc most mornings, hayfever or not, because I think I had a reaction to a lot of foods I used to eat but now I don't usually suffer this which is fantastic. However, if I eat a LOT of bacon, I do get sneezy again.
