I said to heck with most of my dietary restrictions, including low carb, a few weeks back.

Results?

Weight is constant. Fat percentage is down 1 or 2. Energy is good. I added in the supplements I take for depression last week (should have done it earlier).

The funny part?

Other than potatoes and Chinese food, NOTHING I've been wanting has really been high carb. Haven't even been craving Fritos & bean dip, even though I haven't had any.

I think I need to focus on actually cooking most days (including veg) and maybe keep the potatoes and rice down to once or twice a week, but I think I might have found my happy place for now.

That's great! I've been logging everything but find that for the most part I'm staying under 30g carbs total with no problems. Except when I give in to peer pressure and have Mexican or Chinese. I think I'm losing around a pound a week on average, which is fine with me. I'm under 200, which was my first goal, and now I'm just settling in right here for a bit to see what happens when I don't force it. My next goal is to get under 180. I think I was around there when hubby and I met. :)

Mami, I'm just over 180, and since I can't get GF Chinese food here, it's an out of town treat for me. They changed what I used to get at the fast food Mexican place, so that's turning into a not-so-often as well because we can't afford to go to the expensive place with bacon-wrapped shrimp all the time. o:)

Bacon-wrapped shrimp sounds good to me right now--I must be hungry, because I'm not a seafood eater. :)

That is great news Twibbly! I had a similar experience. I do not have a fat calculator but I recently ate carbs and food I am sensitive to and only gained 3 lbs over the 3 days of eating this way which I know is water because I am very swollen.

I think that this is because I was eating low carb for weeks beforehand so a little increase did not impact me as much as it had in the past.

The carbs were yummy but I much prefer my boiled chicken. Bacon-wrapped scallops sound very delicious too.

I am curious about your Chinese Food. Did you go to a place without MSG? I've seen it advertised but I always swell after eating any Chinese Food. I figured there is always some MSG, just not added when advertised.

Pei Wei and PF Chang are the only Chinese food places I know of that have gluten free menus, so I stick to those.

    What's wrong with Mexican food?
*throws down some lettuce topped with carnitas fried in bacon grease, a dollop of sour cream, some guac, AND some shredded cheese*
    Mmmm...

Just remember to ask for your plato "sin arroz y frijoles, sin tortillas" and don't give into that sexy basket of fresh tortilla chips!

The problem is when they decide to use flour to thicken the taco meat or queso. Luckily, we found a new restaurant that doesn't!

    1) I didn't even think about thickeners. Yikes!
    2) My problem is that when we try new places or go to places we reserve for rare treats, I cave and have some chips and go ahead and eat the tortillas with my fajitas or whatever I've ordered. I've learned not to hate myself over these things, though, and just enjoy them for what they are. AND not to do them more than once every few weeks. :)

Those chips taste like paste to me now, and the salsa with chips tastes like vinegar, but it isn't bad atop a cheesy meaty pile of goo!
