A. Grab a 5-pound medicine ball and stand with your feet shoulder-width apart, knees slightly bent.
Hold the ball with both hands in front of your chest.
B. Lower your hips and touch the ball outside your left foot.
C. Stand up quickly, bringing the ball across the front of your body, and toss it to a partner, releasing to the right at about shoulder height.
Have the partner toss it back. That's 1 rep.
Couldn't find a youtube for the Hammer Toss. They were all using real hammers or the heaviest metal balls on chains you've ever seen!!
I hope you find this fun. Let me know.
Have a blast this week! Watch your portions and log everything you put in your mouth. That's part of this week's challenge!

Logging, this has been my goal lately. And now it is part of our challenge.
I am going to find a photo of myself I like. Stick it on my fridge for inspiration. Hope it helps me remember to behave.Nice challenge Chris. I must look at them on my computer.

Back from the trip to scatter my brothers' ashes. Off to an early day at work. Have been logging, now I need to plan my meals.0
-
Shelley, I have a picture at my heaviest weight...I look at that and don't ever want to be that fat again.
Clara, planning and packing for work helps a lot.
Logged everything today...walked this morning w/Bean. Glad we were out there early...you can't see Mt. Diablo any more because of the smoke. Stinky!
Gym got cancelled because the kids had to pick up new furniture for their house this evening. We meet with our trainer tomorrow.
Managed 5.67 miles for 10.825 steps today.
Have a great Tuesday.
Chris0 -
Okay, I logged today when I got home and am under. Thought about getting a cookie in the afternoon but fortunately none were convenient until after the feeling went away. Not sure I would've said "No" if I'd been shopping. Need to practice my "you don't remember why, but you don't want to buy junk food" mantra.
It's like the tastebuds/hand-control is jumping up and down saying "I want! I want!" "Reach!" And sanity is trying to stop it. Sanity knows bud/hands doesn't speak logic. But it can remind buds/hand that in another life (after overeating) tummy wishes it hadn't bought junk food. Buds/hand shares that memory with tummy and can relate.
Tried the exercises and they're fun, well you might say funny if you were watching me. Mostly lack of balance humor, although a one-armed TRX helped the lunge. And have I mentioned heavy legs, scrawny top? Like a teeter-totter the light goes up and the heavy goes down. Good for sit-ups, not so good for leg circles. Was surprised to be able to do reverse planks, but then gravity wouldn't release my legs.

Paula you make me laugh! Good job being under your calories! Glad the cookie-thing worked out! And I'm glad nobody sees me trying to do the exercises...my moves are so unladylike!!
Chris0 -
Chris I used to have one of those heavy photos. Going to try the reverse this time. I take it there are still fires there. I have not watched the news for several days.
Paula you make me laugh also.
Busy busy day. Received a call from Jana, the groomer friend of mine. Stupid hot water hookup failed. Water everywhere. But in the tub. So ran to her business and looked after the dogs while she ran to home depot. Her first day open ended as a success and she was very happy. Walked the boys and then finished the skirt for the gazebo. Total of concrete bags used during the two pours was 46. My arms and back are sore. Then mowed the lawn. I am counting it as my workout. I so am not picking up another bag of concrete for at least a week. Longer if I can manage.
Shelley0 -
Shelley your workout sounds hard to me.
Hit the gym this evening w/DDD and our trainer...man! she's nailing us with some intense stuff! I'm going to be sore tomorrow. She just got another certification on the TRX so we are in for it now!
No walking today. My legs were telling me to take a rest day. Sunday and Monday the last 10 minutes of my walks were really hard. I'll see how tomorrow goes. Maybe I'll go out by myself and then take Bean to the park later.
I managed 2.82 miles for 6,162 steps today; 50 minute workout w/our trainer. Weight stayed the same. Under my calories today.
Hope you all have a terrific Wednesday!
Chris0 -
Chris great day! Under and a workout. Sounds like you are really getting in a good workout! Great going staying under today. I logged but was over. But I am still happy with it. I would have really been over if I had not been logging.
Shelley0 -
Good morning. We are headed out early to beat rush hour traffic. Headed to Cincy to the Western & Southern Open. Will return on Monday. I will get in as many steps as possible daily and try not to eat too badly!
Hope to get pictures of Roger Federer...stalking him!As well as Serena Williams. Should be a great road trip. Have a wonderful rest of the week everyone.
Kathy0 -
We arrived at 3:00 and we've done nothing but walk all over downtown Cincinnati. The riverfront area was wonderful and we saw the Reds stadium and their Hall of Fame. Then we went to Macy's and walked back to our hotel. This equates to 11,434 - 4.70miles.
We will see our first matched tomorrow night.
Kathy0 -
Kathy - nice steps there!! Have fun!
Shelley - glad you were logging. It really does help.
Walked w/Bean for a bit then by myself. We had Lucas (DDD's best friend's baby) this morning until 12:30. He is the happiest baby I've seen in a long time! Then I took a nap!
I managed 6.48 miles for 12,415 steps. Food and calories on target. Tomorrow is DDD's birthday but we won't be celebrating until the weekend.
Hope you all have a grand Thursday!
Chris0 -
Rest day yesterday. Biked at lunch with Carol today. Starting to feel more secure on a bike, less wobble. Hills, yeah...
Kathy, Vacationing sounds like a really good workout.
Shelley, I can NOT imagine picking up 46 bags of concrete. You must be so much stronger than my brain paints you. Going to have to update the mental image. Bulging muscles?
Chris, You are so faithful. Thank you. :blushing:
:flowerforyou: Paula0 -
Paula...Thank you for the compliment, but I don't know what it is I'm being faithful about...
Chris0 -
You're faithful at working out, at supporting your friends and family, at checking in. yep yep yep!
I couldn't get a pair of jeans on last week - uh oh. The fear of not having anything to wear really helps me buckle down. Ate too many crackers today and the fear forced me to walk the hills. Great to have a motivator, actually. Hmmm....
Shelley, After all that cement lifting, you better not be at the hospital recovering from a bad back. Nope-ity nope! :noway:
Best wishes to you all! :flowerforyou:
Paula0 -
Paula, Thanks! And good job on walking the hills! I find that crackers look better in the trash can than on me!! ...just sayin'.
Well...I'm terribly sorry, but no workout today, Paula. I had a horrible night last night and couldn't bring myself to put on my walking shoes. Tomorrow, however there will be walking w/Bean...riding w/Grimm and shopping for soup. Okay, maybe, not the shopping part, but everything else! Must keep the motivation going! Can't be a slacker. Don't like my belly.
Couldn't drink all of my smoothy tonight. Got a terrible tummy ache. Saving some for the morning. I'm okay now...don't know what that was all about. Strange...that's never happened before.
I'm headed for my pillow now.I hope everyone has a grand Friday!
Chris0 -
We had a great day. We saw Federer, Murray, Nadal and several others. The Linder Tennis Center is huge and as a result of moving from court to court in got in 18,595 steps - 7.64 miles. Today will be our first full day of matches...it should be exciting.0
-
Nice steps, Kathy!! Glad you had fun!
Chris0 -
It was really nice here today. Bean and I got out there before the traffic for the two schools near by got busy then I got on the recumbent. I was going to try for a second ride, but my body is not cooperating. Shopped and made a new soup. ...spicy!!
I managed 7.16 miles for 13,823 steps and 12.15 miles on the recumbent.
Hope you all have a terrific Saturday. We will be celebrating DDD's birthday tomorrow. dun...dun...dun...
Chris
p.s. I was bummed this morning...I was up almost 2 pounds!!Tomorrow will be better.

Quarterfinals today. We saw Serena, Djokovic, Wawrinka and some great doubles today. Got I 11,120 for 4.57 miles. If only I was eating as well...can't have everything.
Goodnight,
Kathy0 -
Checking in early today. Going to cut down some ivy "trees" today. Did you know they get that thick? They're pulling down the fence. Going to re-build with neighbors. That'll be today's workout. Have had a pain in the neck the last week and don't know what caused it or how to make it go away. Hope it wasn't the dumbbells. :noway:
Kathy, Sounds like an amazing vacation!!!
Chris, Have a wonderful celebration with your DDD! Congrats to her.
Best y'all!
Paula0 -
Paula I hope you have fun with your "trees" today. My husband can go on and on about how nasty ivy is... I hope that your neck gets better.
Hit the gym this morning w/DDD and SIL then had lunch with a couple of friends celebrating a b'day...not too bad...but, still have DDD's b'day celebration this evening. Calories will be over today for sure.
I was back down weight-wise this morning, which made me happy. What happens to me when I have sugar does not make me happy. Headache then a "must eat" brain. I never noticed that before. hmmm.
Hope your Saturday is filled with fun!
Chris0 -
Uh oh, Chris, do you often have this must eat brain reaction after headaches? Do you ever black out afterward and wake up later with a dirty face and a full tummy.... :noway: ...er, just asking...
But seriously now, there's a scientific pattern to it, doncha know. Sugar jacks up your insulin levels which makes you hungry and craving all kinds of junk... (just not usually brains, though).
Three hours of hard labor, but instead of breaking rocks, it was yanking stalks, some of them 4" in diameter and ten feet tall. Serious ivy stalk removal. Do beans grow on ivy? The only thing missing was the golden goose. We did good though. MFP says I get to eat 800 calories for it.
:flowerforyou: Paula0 -
Yeah! 800 calories to consume...yummmm!
I just thought it was funny...I had about a third of a scoop of ice cream and about a third of a peanut butter pizookie at BJ's ...celebrating a friends b'day. Then we were done and left...I noticed the headache started about half way home...then the brain thing started because I was going to the store for dessert for DDD's gathering. I haven't had sugar...except what comes naturally in fruit...in a long time. It was very strange. Anyway the slip up was small...all damaging extras have been trashed.
Well, the kids are here...back later.
Chris0 -
10,924 steps - 4.49 miles. Finals tomorrow then home on Monday. I'm beat & headed to bed...not as young as I use to be...this vaca is hard work!
Good night,
Kathy0 -
Kathy - good job on the miles and steps. Glad you are having a blast.
Couldn't get back here last night...way too many beers! bwahahah! We had fun with the kids. Watched a dopey movie and laughed. Went way over my calorie allotment, but hey, it was DDD's birthday! I think I'll try not to have two b'day celebrations in one day. Or does it work to have them on on one day and get it over with?? Needless to say the scale went bonkers this morning. I'm really glad it's not a weigh in day.
Walked with DDD for about an hour this morning then went out by myself when I got home. We're going shopping in a bit then I might just nap. Going to get on the bike later.
Hope you are all having a grand Sunday.
Chris

I did read all your posts guys. Sounds like Kathy is having a blast and Paula is killing ivy. Chris you are always my inspiration with all you do.
I have been very busy with my kitty. I do not know how much time I have with him. He was at the vets for a couple of days last week. And we took him in last Tuesday at midnight. He has pancreatitis. And he has lots of trouble walking. Kind of spends most of his time laying around. They are not sure if it is his back or neurological. Either way it is not good. So spending lots of time just holding him. He will not drink. So I give it to him in a syringe. Just drip it into his mouth. He is on lots of meds. 3 times a day. So if I am absent it is because my kiddo needs me.
You all just keep busy for me.
Shelley0 -
Well it's over. I can mark this off my bucket list. I saw Serena & Roger and they both won! We will be headed home tomorrow morning. I got in 10,202 steps - 4.19 miles.
Kathy0 -
Ah, Shelley, I'm so sorry about your kitty. My heart breaks for you.
0 -
Shelley, So sad for you. Please give your kitty a kiss for me. They own our hearts.0
-
Shelly, so sorry about your kitty. I've been there and you just hate to see them suffer!
I've been logging but not here to talk to ya'll.
Busy week and then went to Galveston to celebrate our 38th anniversary. Walked on the beach, swam, and ate grilled seafood.
Work tomorrow!0
