Which Carbs Count?

After reading last night I'm a little confused about carbs, again. :-(
Do the carbs in eggs, cream, cheese & whey count?
I know the carbs in veggies do.
Just when I got past "Net Carbs" there's something else to relearn.

Fibrous carbs count less. Some are it digestible

I try to keep at 80 total carbs, a high percentage from fibrous veggies

It does seems to halo with weight loss by fiber action and it seems to not get absorbed

Some people are very meticulous about this topic

I just punch the veggies in and roll on. Veggies don't mess me up. A sugary item definitely will unless I work it off immediately

I think it depends on you. If you want to stop counting them, try it as an experiment and see if anything seems to change. If not, I think they wouldn't matter then.

Do you mean in terms of the carnivorous zero carb WoE? In that case, you're taking in so few carbs anyway, the point is not to stress that eggs or cheese have carbs. If you're eating VLC or a little higher, then yeah that's part of the carb count you have to keep because you're also eating fibrous or other carbs.

Basically not counting the natural carbs in animal sources is a benefit of ONLY eating from animal sources.

No, this WOE is working way too good for me to mess with.
I just sometimes get caught up in the finer points.

    Read up on fiber

    There are two kinds

That impacts carb glycemic impact too.

I would assume that the amount of carbohydrate found in eggs would be negligible unless you're eating them by the dozen. Carbs in dairy come from lactose, aka "milk sugar".... I try to avoid most low-fat dairy because of this.

Is the carb number coming from fiber? If yes, don't worry about it. If no, then count it. Sugar is sugar is sugar, as far as general health is concerned.

I go with what Dragonwolf said. I subtract dietary fiber because it doesn't get digested, but I count everything else save for erythitol (it's the only sugar alcohol I ingest).

Do you differentiate between soluble and insoluble fiber?

From the macro standpoint, my doc and dietitian have said to subtract fiber from carbs and don't think about it. What little is actually digested is only 2-3 carbs in a 150-200g daily carb intake. At keto levels, carbs from absorbed fiber is essentially zero.

I edited my egg and hwc entries that I use daily to reflect the small carbs contained in them. I also use whay I consider to be carb correct entries for cheese and the like. Those things make up 2-5 carbs daily. While I count them, I don't worry about them

For me, what drives the counting is how far I have to go. I count every carb (no net for me!) and stay under 20. But I have 80 to 100lbs still to loose. Creeping carbs have killed me in the past, so my mindset has to be no compromise.

    Others do better thinking differently.

I'm 59, the sand is falling through the hourglass, and I want to LIVE not just exist. I feel like I don't have 40 years to dink around and figure it out. I'll start adjusting when I stall or near my goal.

I do this. If it's fiber I subtract it, if it's not fiber I count it. That said, unless I'm eating a block of cheese in a day, or more than a few ounces of hwc I don't worry about the usually minuscule carbs contained therein. Also, mfp does add up all the .something carbs into your total. IE, my hwc has .1 carbs per tablespoon, it shows zero carbs next to the entry for it, but if I have quite a few tbsps I'll notice the total carb count at the bottom of my diary tick up by 1 that doesnt show in meal totals or entries.

100% of my carbs seems to show up on the scales. :) Seriously I only eat foods containing carbs if they are a major source of fats and or proteins.

@nicintime at 64 I feel the same way. I do not have one more loss, regain and another loss left in me. This time is my last time to stop yo yoing.

Thanks for all the input. I'm going to continue counting ALL carbs.
I get plenty of them, I usually don't go over my 23.
If it ain't broke, why fix it. :-)
    Thanks again.
