Soooo apparently......

Without really meaning to I have been following the keto diet almost to a "t"....the only difference is that I eat a bit more cheese than the "diet" allows. I always assumed that the keto diet was 20 carbs or less but from what I just read it is between 20-50 carbs per day (at this website anyway http://www.ketogenic-diet-resource.com/ketogenic-diet-plan.html). I have been averaging about 43 carbs a day (total carbs because I don't get the net carb thing and when I looked it up on WebMD they made it sound as though it is not really accurate). Not planning on changing what I am doing (for now anyway) because I have lost 8 pounds so far since starting on 9/15 and although I know most of the first loss was water weight 8 pounds is 8 pounds I don't care if it is water or fat LOL!!!

    Welcome to ketoland. :)

    Imagine my surprise when I was averaging around 100g/d carbs and ketostix told me I was peeing out ketones. :)

    The internet is wrong in so many ways, and it's been a fun hobby understanding how this stuff really works. ;)

    I no longer consider WebMD a reliable source of information. This is really in general, but especially in the case of diet stuff. They're pretty blatantly conventional wisdom and don't even think about calling their stuff into question. =/

    People lie. The internet lies. The scale lies. Go with what your body says.

    Still, it is kinda cool to feel like you're part of a biohacking cult, isn't it? :)

    Let me say I do not believe everything WebMD says it just happened to be the article I read.

    Yes! Sounds way cooler than 'I've joined Weight Watchers.

    Welcome to the cult, there is no Koolaid. Cause carbs.

    No koolaid, but bacon. :) Everything is always better with bacon!

    I started out doing Atkins induction, but since that's pretty much keto and I was going to stay in induction a while anyhow, I figured I might as well just do Keto. I keep my carbs most days under 40 total, but on the occasion I go over it's never thrown me out of ketosis. I am mostly very strict though on making sure my carbs come from veggies, seasoning, and the occasional quest bar or dark chocolate piece. :)

    @clayswife13 welcome.

    I too landed in keto land by accident just because I cut out most all sugars and all grains a year ago trying to manage my arthritis pain without meds. I worked well after the first 30 days and I plan to stay very LCLF.

    Later I found MFP with Goggle when I was trying to learn how to use the $15 breath analyzers on Ebay to monitor I was in or out of ketosis without a prick. After I got to MFP I learned it contained a lot of info to sort through.

    You can buy urine analysis strips for Ketosis at Walmart.

    Looks like I will be googling arthritis and low carb/sugar too. Early stages of arthritis in my left knee.
