I do eat the occasional bowl of chili made with black beans. They are relatively lower carb and I just make sure the rest of my meals throughout the day are lower carb than normal.0

Yep. I do a black bean chili once a week or so. They are cheap and they have lots of fiber. If I keep them at a moderate amount, they don't even knock me out if ketosis or affect by blood sugar radically.
They are "slow carbs" and digested lower in the intestines so they don't give you a fast hard hit of starch. I usually incorporate cheese and hot dogs or kielbasa into the dish (I make mine in the crock pot after the beans are cooked) because I try to stay low budget but I dislike ground beef. Sometimes I do a ground beef chili tho, my husband loves it. Basically just beans, beef, a lot of roasted cumin and some kind of tomatoes, sauce, diced or rotel.
Oddly enough, homecooked beans from dry beans are lower carb than canned beans as well as being cheaper. I use both tho. So far I've only used black beans, but I count then a success.0 -
They tear up my stomach so I avoid them like the plague. The only ones I eat is green beans (rarely). I used to eat them all the time until I notices how much my stomach hurt after eating them, which is sad, because I have some amazing recipes.0

I love beans and once I reach my goal I'll allow them back into my diet in moderation so long as my stomach will tolerate them. I think I'll have to make homemade from now on as I'm noticing canned beans are a little rough on my insides0

I love beans and lentils! But i have decided to eliminate them for a few weeks to a month to reduce my overall carb intake to see how I do with it.0

I eat green beans. I plan on using beans in soups, chili, etc this fall and winter but to use half the recipe amount to slowly introduce them back into my diet. As AnginCanada noted above, I will choose to incorporate them into my daily allotted carbs and just reduce the amount of carbs I eat the rest of the day to accommodate them.0

I eat beans every day and it hasn't had any negative affect on my weight loss at all. I'm generally at around 40-50 net carbs a day, if that helps. My hubby and I love white beans made into faux mashed potatoes with just beans, butter, and a food processor. Yummy goodness.0

I miss a good pot of lima beans with sausage or ham.... But beans are too high on the carb list for me at the moment, save for green beans. I totally plan on adding them back in small doses when I get to maintenance.0

I started with beans, lentils - but now I skip beans. I don't really love 'em, so not worth the carbs.
Same with quinoa and other high fiber substitutes for grains and rice.. Now skip.
I really don't miss the fiber and can get to a lower daily carb level without.
A former favorite was Boston baked beans with ketchup! Now just too high in sugars and carbs.
Answer: No beans until goal.0 -
I think the question of beans are multifaceted. Ferriss' slowcarb has beans as a major ingredient. In one of Grant Schofield's lectures about insulinogenic foods, beans cane quite high up. But I think reaction to beans are tied to the individual's gut biome.
I love beans. I make a salad with beans, tomatos, avocado, olive oil, vinegar, salt pepper. Takes like 3 mins to make when coming home tired. But my insulin sensitivity has gone up, I think since last year. Cause I can eat carby foods now, with less «bad effects». All the experimenting has paid off0 -
Peanuts are considered beans, right? One of my indulgences.
And once in a while, as a special treat (instead of ice cream), I'll have BBQ baked beans. That stuff could be my downfall.0 -
I'm so glad you posted this, @fancyroberts! Feeling much less guilty about my occasional "beandulgences" now.0

Yum, might have to try that in small doses! We are also around that carb level.

Had some dwarf beans at the weekend. First green beans for 9 months. SO delicious and quite low in carbs. About 6g per 100g beans.0

@JessicaLCHF Yes, definitely try. I hate cream cheese so the similar recipes made with cauliflower and cream cheese makes my stomach turn and this is my alternative.0

Love them. Especially garbanzo beans. But they hate me. And I don't just mean the usual digestive issue that leads to bouts of public humiliation. They sapped my energy and bloated me even after I was high fiber, plant based awhile and was used to it. Which made me very sad and very broke, because then I had to replace them with far more expensive stuff. Vegan was even worse than low carb for cost!0

I eat green beans all the time. Lots of fibre = very little carbs. Just steam or boil them and toss them with butter, parmesan and a little garlic powder. Best thing ever. (hint - add diced bacon, thank me later).0

I used to eat beans and lentils , but now avoid them, due to their high carb content and the intestinal distress they produce. It's just not worth it to me. Every now and then. I will allow myself about 1 Tbsp worth of back beans, but that's it. And I find that I don't need the fibre anymore anyway, so it's a matter of how much starch I feel like eating. I feel better when I keep my carb count low.0

I love cream cheese (eating some jello cream cheese pie now!) but I hate the taste and texture of "mashed" cauli. As does my hubby. I need a lot of potassium and magnesium too, so it's a win win!0 -

@EbonyDahlia try them sautéed in bacon drippings with a bit of crumbled bacon and CURRY POWDER. My whole family's favorite way to eat green beans.0 -

I'll do green beans and Italian / wax beans and that's it. The rest are just too high in carbs for me which is a shame because I really like beans...refried beans, pinto beans, black-eyes peas (not sure if that's even a real bean), navy beans, garbanzo beans, kidney beans, bakes beans.....okay, I'm waxing poetic over beans. How sad is that?! lol I'll stop now.0
