Reaction to shirataki noodles?

Last night the kids has baked potatoes so I had bought myself some shirataki noodles and added backn bits, cheese and sour cream to them. I've never had them before. Within 5 minutes my face was bright red and felt like it was burning. Within 20 minutes it felt like I had consumed hundreds of carbs and was complete brain fog. It went away within an hour but was not pleasant. Woke up this morning to a 2 pound weight gain. WTF! Only ingredients are yam flour, calcium hydroxide and water. Zero calories, zero carbs, zero fat.

Hhmm, that's odd. I eat these about once per month, and have no side effects.0

I agree with @Kitn. I usually have them a couple of times a month and I've never had any averse reaction to them. It sounds to me like you may be allergic to them...? If you are, that definitely sucks! Maybe try Kelp Noodles instead which are only a little higher in carbs than Shiritaki noodles but which are still much lower in carbs than regular pastas.0 -

Or try the tofu variety of shiritaki noodles.
What about the bakn bits? Ever had a reaction to those?0 -

Nope, they are literally just bacon. That's it. I eat them all of the time.0 -

[clucking sadly]….Now, you KNOW you didnt gain real weight, right? ..so factually you had a reaction to the yam starch product used, or the processing of it, and held a ton of water…so yes, maybe a true food allergy for you…. I love these Dukan/Miracle noodles, some say they smell taste fishy..I barely notice it..but different foods affect us oddly.
( the bright red skin rash is scary.. had that when I reacted to aspartame and some other junk in diet soda…that stuff makes my lips buzz..so for me it truly is a possible excitive 'neurotoxic' exaction…no matter how safe they
( FDA) claims aspartame is. maybe my soda overheated in transit..brokedown to phenyalanine components..and voila' ( I had soldier friends in Irag/Iran ( in the 90s) who told of 120 deg heat ruining cases of diet sodas..it boiled, then was undrinkable….0 -
I have not heard of allergies to konnyaku, which is the same stuff the noodles are made of. But this site says a rare few people are: http://www.emaxhealth.com/8782/glucomannan-weight-loss-side-effect-warnings-you-need-know

I've heard of gastro distress, but not this specifically. I could not STAND the ones I got, so I only ate about 2-3 bites of them, so I've no idea if I had a problem... I would say check the ingredient list and do an elimination thing... Trying different types or whatever...but I'd keep chewable kids benedryl on hand if you decide to try it again (chewable, and hold it under your tongue, briefly is quickest absorption, fyi if you can't decent quantity of liquid).0

I I did try them again (just a couple bites). Same reaction. Burning face and bright red. So they've gone in the garbage and I won't be eating them again.0

I do not remember any reaction other than a gross taste is not well rinsed and eaten cold. The daughter picked them up a few times but I would just leave them in the store when I was shopping for myself. I have no desire to look for carb like substitutes.0
