Congrats. :). It's oddly satisfying to pee on a stick for colour change. LOL ;)

It varies a lot between people. I don't get to a darker colour (moderate ketones) unless I have had very low calories (<500kcal) and even then, I need some sort of exercise or it stays trace or occasionally small.

I have no idea what influences the level of ketosis we achieve. I always have a moderate or large reading as long as I stay under 25g but I know that others at the same carb level don't get such a reading. I think hydration also has an effect. I don't drink a bunch of water. Some days, it's probably not even 8 cups. This might make my strips test higher but doesn't actually mean I'm burning more fat than someone who tests lower. It just means their urine is more diluted. As long as you are showing something, it means you are burning enough fat to have extra spilling over into your urine. So, you're in ketosis. Congrats! You did it!

Mine are always really dark but like sunny said I don't drink a lot so it's probably more concentrated than in someone who drinks a lot of water.

Congratulations phuonguk. Below is link that will cover what classes of ketones are measured by different test methods. The strips and blow meters do not test for the main ketone level but give is a ball park ideal if we are eating <50 grams of carbs daily or not. It covers if higher ketone levels equals higher weight loss.

I never got anything in the morning, and never got beyond medium at any time, but I drink a ton of water/tea/coffee.

Your blow meter should pick up some acetone after a hard work. Because the urine strips for for testing for pre ketoacidosis conditions they are not real sensitive for those of us in nutritional ketosis.

What color/readout are you getting when you blow?

A little green, but it really needs to sit charging overnight and then get a reset. It also did some random disconnects- so I hope that goes away. I'll test in the morning and after my trainer comes to my house for a workout.

I think it is a cool device from my research a year ago.

Very easy to understand article. Surprised he didn't mention Protein levels. My nutritionist said too much Protein can affect stix as well. Wow the whole lot is a balancing act between carb/fat/Protein/water/potassium. Glad I have MFP to log.
