2016 miles in 2016

OK...So you know, in an effort to stay active in our ridilous weather, I've gotten into several virtual races this past year. There was one that I would have loved to participate in, but discovered it far too late into the year. It was 2015 miles in 2015. So, they are doing it again this year - and this year Cheryl and I are joining the race....and we'd love for you all to come along with us.
Cheryl and I have a sidebar bet going on to encourage us, however, we agreed we would use the daily mileage that is registered on our fitbit, so it's not limited to just extra fitness focused walks, hikes runs etc. After joining the race and setting our rules between us, we thought it would be fun to do something like this with our group. Now that Sarah HAS to move to the fitbit world, it will make it that much more fun! What do you say? Similar to the way we used to have the various team challenges on BodyBugg (where the Short n Sassy, purple team, orange team, blue teams originated), we would keep a thread dedicated to just the 2016 miles posting. I will maintain an excel spreadsheet.
Goals:
*First to hit the 2016 mile marker
*Most amount of miles in 2016 as of 11:59 pm in your local time zone on 12/31/16
*A teasing encouraging opportunity for the fewest miles in 2016 as of 11:59 pm in your local time zone on 12/31/16
As always it is honesty driven. You can post your mileage daily or weekly. I will update the spreadsheet and post it weekly in a thread.... 2016 miles in 2016 by month.
It averages out to approx 5 miles per day.....Who's interested?

here's the link if you want to register for the medals and such:
http://www.signmeup.com/site/online-event-registration/108502?q12=H02J8T7
or you can just report your mileage. I like the bling as a reward...it's encouragement to me but not necessary for our group! Start warming those legs up now...we don't have much time before we start the official Group
I've got Kelly and Sheesh with Cheryl and I so far...any other joiners?

sounds like fun and a great challenge but honestly, I have problems making 3-4 miles/day so will count myself out on this one. I will make a personal challenge of doing 1/2 of those steps, though...0
-
Sorry to the lagging person. I've divided that mileage up by 300 (assuming there would be 65 days that I would rest, be on travel, be sick, or something) and looked at what it would take it. With my work hours, I don't know.... We have a new campaign launching in January and a huge report coming out later in the year that will attract a lot of public attention and thus create a lot of work for me. Add to that that I have no idea what will happen with my new manager. But I also know that there's no harm in doing my best and that just seeing you ladies trouncing me will keep me motivated--so count me in.0

I don't think I'm going to register. With the Canadian Dollar as crappy as it is, I'm not really wanting to spend money on it. I will report my mileage on here though.0

LIGHT - DON"T GIVE UP!!! Why don't you set a goal of 1008 for the year?
Kelly - I've already added you to the list.
SARAH - YEAH!!!!
We've got this ladies!!!0 -
I don't think I'll register, either, but will also report my mileage here. Hubby knows the hours I'll be called on to work in 2016 and gave me the "Have you lost your mind" look when I told him--but we'll just see.
Light--do the same. Just do what you can and report here so we have that "group sense" going. Honestly, there are times when I'm walking that you ladies are there--a felt but unseen presence. Promising myself to just not stop posting and never be dishonest in what I post has been key in keeping me from just sliding totally back into old habits.
I have a great magnet on my frig that shows an older (like in her 80s) woman in a skin tight swimsuit. You can tell she's not young, but she looks fit and terrific. She's my inspiration. I'll try to take a picture and post it.0 -
I'm registered! I'll promise to report my mileage here weekly on weigh-in day (Wednesday). I have a hard time getting on the computer daily now that I'm not working and hubby has the Mac all the time Lois and Cheryl, I'm going on the site today to join your team. Let's do it!
Lois, have a wonderful vacation in Hawaii!! You're so lucky . . Aloha! I'll also be gone until Jan 5th to spend the Holidays with my kids and grandkids, and probably won't be able to post. I plan to post my weigh-in this Wed as usual. Happy Holidays everyone, and a toast to a Happy, Healthy New Year!0 -
Sheesh - WOO HOO!!! enjoy New York! Its so pretty and so many things to do0
-
Hey Lois, I'm taking a long car trip to California and then up the coast to Portland the day after starting December 26. Taking the Tahoe with gifts and goodies in tow! We plan to be back around Jan 5. Then, in March we're going to New York for our Anniversary. I hope you enjoy Hawaii!!!0
-
WOO HOO!!! Have fun!! I'll be back in AZ and at work on Jan 50

Are we just going to post our miles on this post?0

Man, oh man. I am discouraged and trying to fight the angry, What the hecks!" I've walked for the past few days even though I'm having hip pain. I have broken my coccyx four times and I think I have some arthritis or something. It flares up every now and again, but moving doesn't seem to make it worse, so I just tough it out.
Anyway, I've tried to move, I've logged my food, and I've managed to keep a deficit. BUT--I stepped on the scale this morning and my weight is still going up. I saw a figure I have not seen in 5 years.
I'm truly without words . . .0 -
That's tough Sarah. I'm in a similar boat. I don't have anything broken or aching bad enough not to move, but I feel that with how I'm eating and doing some exercise, I should be able to lose.
I can't remember what you've posted, but have you been to a doctor to check your thyroid and all of that? It's hard not to get discouraged, but please don't get so discouraged that you give up. Get angry, then take that anger and do weight lifting or resistance training. Maybe your body needs something other than walking. I know my body gets used to things and just expects it, so it doesn't show results.
Chin up dear. Smile smile smile and just watch the salt intake too!0 -
Thanks, Kelly. I'm hypothyroid but it is controlled. In fact, the level was really good when I had it checked on December 3. I'm not stopping, but this morning when I saw that number. . .
I've got in 8968 steps thus far today. It's a little before 4 p.m. here on the east coast. I'm going to log food, clean my desk a bit before the sun goes down (there's something about daylight that makes cleaning and organizing easier) and then I'm going to get some more steps in.
I'm not sure why I've been struggling so, but I know if I stop I'm going to be sorry. As I left out today, two very heavy women were leaving my neighbor's house and all I could think was how easy it would be to just keep adding a few pounds here and few pounds there and end up like that.0 -
Above all, do not lose your desire to walk: every day I walk myself into a state of well-being and walk away from every illness; I have walked myself into my best thoughts, and I know of no thought so burdensome that one cannot walk away from it... and the more one sits still, the closer one comes to feeling ill... Thus if one just keeps on walking, everything will be alright.

Great post Sarah! That really helped me get off my butt and just go for a quick stroll.
Here's my numbers so far:
Jan 1 - 5.11 miles
Jan 2 - 5.73 miles
Jan 3 - 7.7 miles
Jan 4 - 7.83 miles0 -
You are doing great, Kelly. I'm stretching it to get in 4-5 miles a day. Right now, I feel like I have a ball of ice in my stomach. As you ladies know, my long-time manager retired on Dec 31, and I just heard that someone others tell me is very difficult to work for may be taking that position. She's a friend of someone up the chain, so to speak, so....
Honestly, if I have to put in even more hours each day sitting at this desk, I'll be lucky to move at all. Okay--I know I'm projecting and I don't know yet what will happen or how it will affect me. It's just hard not to do that--and sometimes just putting something down takes some power out of it.0 -
Here's what I have so far....
Completed Miles Remaining Miles % Complete
Lois 28.57 1987.43 1%

Juanita 0 2016 0%

Please post whatever mileage your fitbit shows and I will update the spreadsheet. It won't let me attach it.0

Welcomed back, Lois! Since we amassing 2016 miles, I pulled off Jan 1-5 and the total is 26.38 miles for the first 5 days of the year.
Jan 1 = 4.74
Jan 2 = 4.99
Jan 3 = 6.20
Jan 4 = 5.26
Jan 5 = 5.19
That's an average of 5.28 miles per day, and I have 1,989.62 miles left to go.
With my 10-hour a day sitting at a desk job , I may not be able to keep up with everyone, but as I said in the entry that somehow didn't get posted, I am going to try to just keep making progress and compete with myself to keep improving. Some day (hopefully) I'll have more time to spare, but for now, I'll do the best I can given the circumstances.0 -
Great numbers Sarah! Keep up the good work. I have a desk job too and I work 12 hours, but luckily I get to walk to and from work at the beginning and end of day, as well as for lunch. Plus, our company is great with getting up and staying fit, so I try to walk around every hour or so for 5-10 minutes or just walk in place for a few minutes. I can also raise my computer to make it a standing desk, which helps. Lately I've been waking up at 445 each morning, just to walk on the treadmill for 20 minutes and I walk slowly on the treadmill after I eat lunch, just to get off my butt lol
You just have to find what will work for you.0 -
Jan 5 - 5.67
Jan 6 - 6.98
Jan 7 - 5.870 -
So far we are at 150.99 miles!!!! WOO HOO!0

Great! I had limited time at the mall last night because of work, then something to take care of for my sister, and then volunteer work which is sitting, too. BUT--I had not quite made my 10,000 steps when I got home, so I cranked up the old dreadmill until I felt the wonderful little vibration.
Here's a little something to think about. Be careful when using other people's food analyses. I looked at my nutrition and almost fell off my chair because my sodium has been astronomical. I couldn't figure it out. I had nothing yesterday that was very salty. Then I discovered that I had used Lady & Sons Vegetable Beef Soup from the MFP database, and the person who did that calculation included in the analysis the recipe for Paula Deen seasoning salt that is included at the end of the soup recipe! Among other spices, the seasoning mix includes a full cup of salt!! The recipe just calls for 1 tablespoon of it (and the recipe makes 16 servings), but the whole amount had been analyzed, so it showed more than 6,000 grams of sodium per cup of soup. LOL
I'm going to do my own analysis this weekend, add it to my recipes, and swap it out in my diary for this week. I actually tweak Paula's recipe a little so that it's probably even a little healthier, e.g., I use low-sodium chicken broth in the place of a bunch of bullion. Whew!0 -
Oh wow! That's good to know Sarah. I'll be watching that more carefully. MFP has added a green check mark next to data base items that have been verified nutritionally, but I have no idea if that includes the amount of sodium. I might have to email them to find out. Also, I hope you'll do the weekend warrior challenge!
Lois, I'm happy to report:
Jan 7: 7 miles
And I will enter on the race website.0 -
Hi, Ladies. I am going to be traveling some this weekend, so I probably will not join the challenge formally. The car time will take a big bite out of my walking time, but I'll still do my best to reach my 10,000 steps. I'm a bit bummed out because I put on an outfit this morning that just makes me look pudgy. I'm ready to test the knees with some stairs to shake things up. I'd say try jogging, but then there's that tear in my retina--darn it! Oh well. Everybody deals with stuff. Onward.0

Hey, Lois, I have a question about the virtual run. When I logged my miles today, it showed my personal total is 34.32 miles, and then when I click calculate team total it shows 34.32 miles. What's going on? Is it totaling it correctly for you? Have I not done something correctly?
P.S. I think I hate that website.0 -
