Hello,
I thought I use this thread to introduce myself. Hope you don't mind me joining in. I did really well two and a half years ago on 5:2 and lost over 30lb. But shortly afterwards my mum's COPD resulted in her needing care and she then passed away in 2013, and shortly afterwards my dad got cancer and needed care and he died last summer. Now I can concentrate on myself again and focus on my own health and wellbeing. I would really welcome some friends. I currently weigh in at 175lb and would like to achieve around 135lb. I'm 45 and in the UK.0 -
Boombalatty, I agree with Mama. Not gaining is as much a win as losing!! Keep your chin up!
Mama and Flossy, thanks, girls!! Keep up the great work...you are inspiring me, so thank YOU!
Elaine, it sounds like you are on the right path and definitely reading about the success of others helped me too. Glad I can help!!
Collie, a few of us are in our 40's, so welcome!! I'm so sorry to hear about your parents. It seems like, as women, we are always in the role of caregiver, whether we have kids, aging parents, or both. We always seem to come 2nd (or 5th it seems sometime). It seems selfish to take something back, but you know, once you do, it doesn't seem so selfish after all. It seems healthy. Cheers to focusing on yourself!!
I hope I got everyone0 -
Totally not related, but how are some of you able to refer to someone as @flossyruby1? In Mama's post at the top, my username is in blue, as if she just selected something rather than type my username. Is that possible?

@flossyruby1 when you use the @ sign and start typing the name.....the app gives you a list of user names to choose from and turns it blue0

Thanks Elaine! I could NOT figure it out!0

Welcome Collie! 46 here in Switzerland. Started at a similar weight 2.5y ago. Now at 60kg with a bit of up and down maintaining the last year or so. So it's possible! !0

Thank you all. Indeed as women we often end up in caring positions to the detriment of the rest of our lives. My other half and I wanted to get married years ago but with both my parents going from one crisis to the next there just never seemed the right time. Now we set a date for October and I'm looking forward to us being able to live our lives. Being an "older bride" it's not going to be a cinderella-in-a-meringue-dress affair but I would still like to look nice and feel good on the day. Of course that won't be solely determined by size but generally I would like my "old self" back including the smaller frame that came with it. LOL x0

Hi @CollieFit and thanks for the add!
Enjoy planning your wedding! That's a beautiful time of year no matter where you live! I'm sure you'll sink into a good rhythm of 5:2 and be stunning on your wedding day!
Also... I'm 56! Does that make me the old bag on here?? I'm figuring out how to make my diary open to friends of 5:2... Feel free to add me if you like I don't post really but it's nice to give & receive a like or 20 -
@mamainthekitchen - I'm right there with you...will be a young 58 this year! My mantra this year "better to be over the hill than under it". Focused on getting this weight off so I can have many healthy years over that hill.
I'm still trying to figure out how to add people - any pointers?

Yesterday I made a little plan, and if I were to lose a pound a week, then I would be at my goal weight just in time for the wedding. That put a smile on my face. I have 3 weeks of working away half of the week, making 5:2 more difficult, but as soon as those weeks are over I will schedule my first fast day. I used to love the energy they gave me. So far I lost 6lb since Christmas just by eating sensibly and exercising a little.0

Elaine, that's so funny & so true!!!!
Great plan Collie!0 -
Looking forward to my first fast of the week. Yesterday was weird. I've been pretty consistent of eating reasonably on non FD. I used to have days where I could not get full. I needed to feel the sensation of being filled with food. This wasn't a mental thing, but a physical one (although I'm sure one could argue it was a mental barrier). I haven't felt that way in a really long time which I realized yesterday. However, for some reason, yesterday was one of those days! So I allowed myself to go ahead and not restrict myself, which also felt weird. It's at moments like this when it hits me I've created new habits...when an old one sneaks in. At any rate, yesterday is over, today is here. I've got dance, a facial, and a band performance. In all, a fairly busy day which should keep me on my A game. Have a great week everyone!0
