I bought some Walgreens Ketosis strips. When I took the test, it said I was in ketosis. I then had my son take the test and he was also in Kotosis. He eats whatever he wants. Do you think the strips are bad?

Good scientist, using a control subject to test your strips!

I am always in ketosis according to the strips too. Eat some carbs and test again. When I eat too many carbs, it goes up to trace, but not negative.

Even sad dieters can make ketones during times of fasting or heavy activity that burns up glycogen. Any chance of that?
Another thing.... Any way your son is having high blood sugar? Does he go to the bathroom a lot and drink s lot of water?

I use my strips and it says I am never in Ketosis....after reading found out that happens a lot. I used to use this to keep me straight, but I have come to realize that there are a lot of things that make it show negative. Now I just use them to keep me motivated.

You're best bet is first thing in the morning. Will be most concentrated then.
I personally have never had one show negative when conditions were right for ketones. Not for myself or my T1D daughter. We also use a blood meter and even when blood level was low, I still got something on the strip. But it has to do with how efficiently your body uses them apparently, and also how diluted your urine is. That's why the first morning urine is the most likely time to get a reading. I don't drink much water, so I can only speculate that's why my results are so consistent. Also, results are more likely to show up when fasting or after a decent amount of exercise.
I'm a little concerned with OP's son showing ketones since they haven't responded. My daughter was showing signs of T1D for a good year and a half before we caught on. If I would've tested her during that time, she would've had ketones at different times even though she ate a standard diet.
