Since i play basketball, and it is a highly competitive sport, my personal fitness goal is to increase my vertical. Increasing my vertical will not only make my legs stronger and more fit, but will help my jumping and rebounding game in basketball. The steps I will take to increase my vertical would be to run more, increasing the strength in my knees and legs, I would spend more time and attention to leg day, working on my calves and hamstrings, since these two muscles are the main ones used to jump. A challenge I will have while approaching my goal is time. It takes a long time and dedication to increase a vertical, which requires patience. I will know when I increase my vertical because i will see a significant increase in my jumping ability (touching the rim or dunking) or when i see a significant increase in leg muscle and strength.0

1) I'd like to do it for the long run and make it a part of my life. I want to live a long and healthy life. I want to stay active and not just sit on a couch and watch TV the entire day. I want to get out of my comfort zone and prove to myself that I can do this, that I can stay fit. I look at it this way: the more time I spend on fitness and exercising, the more time I can spend relaxing and eating whatever I like. I prefer exercising rather than changing the way and what I eat.
2) I am going to try to workout effectively in class. I will create my individual workout plan and if I am too lazy in class or if I don't do a good jab that day, I will workout at home. I will go running outside on good air quality days (if I am in India) and do some easy light activities indoors.
3) LAZINESS. I can get very lazy... I will probably get lazy almost every time, but like I said, I want to make this a part of my life so I will try to do the best I can.
4) I will know if I achieved my goals by simply feeling happy and excited to exercise. I won't be making excuses for myself not to exercise. When I will be exercising on a regular basis and it will really become a part of my daily routine, then I will truly be satisfied.0 -
1) What are your personal fitness goals? (Please describe in detail)
To work on every muscle of my body equally.
2) What are the steps you will take to achieve your goal(s)? (Be specific)
Do exercises for each muscle.
3) What challenges will you have in achieving your goal(s)?
Not sure.
4) How will you know when you achieve your goal(s)?
I will know when I can do more than what I did in the beginning.0 -
1) What are your personal fitness goals?
My goals for personal fitness would be to stay fit for all of the sports that I am playing, currently football but later in the semester I would like to be ready for track. I also would like to build muscle around my back as well as my arms and shoulders so that I am not more prone for injury on my back, shoulder and arms, especially for volleyball.
2) What are the steps you will take to achieve your goal(s)?
The steps that I will take to achieve my goals would be to run during the personal fitness class, most likely during the ten minute warm up so I can get it out of the way and start on my other workouts. To build muscle I would like to take the steps of incorporating cross-fit as well as other rigorous workout routines into my personal fitness workout.
3) What challenges will you have in achieving your goal(s)?
There will be many challenges as I go about my workouts trying to obtain my goals, such as injury. As I am a very competitive and aggressive athlete I am constantly getting hurt. I will then have to alter my workouts so that I can still get a workout in without injuring my self further.
4) How will you know when you achieve your goal(s)?
I will know that I have achieved my goals when I set a standard or a point where I want to get to and I achieve it. From there I will alter my goals, either change them or increase them so that I can continue to improve.

1)
I want to develop a habit of exercising and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. In addition to the physical strength I need to develop, I also have to improve my mental strength (ex. to stick to a workout or choose healthier foods). I hope that through this class I will learn ways to work out that I enjoy and to improve my overall fitness level.
2)
I plan to fully commit myself in class to my workouts. I want to keep up with the myfitnesspal log so I can better monitor what I eat. I plan to learn more about the gym so I can determine which machines best suit my needs.
3)
Aside from this class I don't really have any other source of exercise so I need to be disciplined when I do work out. I find myself very committed to being healthy while in personal fitness class but keeping up the motivation when I am outside of class will be difficult. I really love unhealthy foods so it will be challenging to make better choices when it comes to my diet.
4)
I will hopefully be more energized, happy, and physically feel better. Lately I've been feeling really lazy and slow but by incorporating more exercise into my lifestyle I believe that my mood will improve. My self-image is also really terrible and I think being more fit would help.0 -
1) I wish to improve my overall health, especially when it comes to having a well-maintained fit lifestyle. I would generally like to be more toned and improve my strength in all areas, especially my upper body (arms and abdominals). I would also like to put more emphasis on cardiovascular exercises than I have previously (such as running on the treadmill or using the elliptical trainer) not focused on.
2) I have already taken steps to do improve my lifestyle outside of school in recent months (by doing my own workouts and regulating my diet), but I would like to work on focusing on the physical aspects of my fitness regime in personal fitness class. I will create a workout in which all body parts will be targeted, with more focus on my arms and abdominal muscles than I am used to. I will definitely keep a daily log of the foods I eat and the exercise I do to keep track of my progress each day.
3) I will be challenged by the constant option to eat unhealthily and random swings of lack of motivation. I will also be challenged by my wrist and elbow injuries, which disallow me from doing many normal arm exercises like push-ups or bench presses. Also, before starting to alter my diet, I ate many unhealthy foods in unmanaged quantities. Hopefully through maintaining my food and exercise log and creating a new and more rigorous exercise regime, I will be able to work through the challenges of eating unhealthy foods and lack of motivation.
4) I hope to see a physical difference in terms of my ability to run faster and for longer distances and general strength. I hope to feel mentally stronger and more focused in my classes as I am quite academically oriented (I have noticed that exercising daily helps me to stay focused and motivated in my classes). I will hopefully have reached my goals when I gain confidence in my body and my self-image.0 -
1) To become more fitter. I feel like since I haven't done any sports recently, going to the gym would help me loads. I would like to improve my body by making it more toned and lose body fat by gaining muscle mass. I started last semester and I'm still working on it. Not only am I trying to work on getting more fit by working out, but also by eating healthier foods. Cutting out the carbs and sugary goods.
2) I've got personal fitness to help me find out what I want to do, but on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, my friends and I have decided to dedicate our time to go to the gym and eat healthier foods. We're all very committed to the idea of getting a toned body or at least more fitter than we are right now.
3) I love food and sometimes I get lazy to go to the gym. So I have to push myself.
4) I think in terms of what you see but also your self-control on things. Hopefully by the end of the semester I can control what I eat and how I workout.0 -
1) Im getting fitter by trying to get in as much cardio as possible while maintaining a solid amount of muscle mass by doing strength training twice a week. These aspects important for football and track because its important to have a good endurance base but having strength allows you to be strong on the ball and explosive when needed.
2) Ive been doiing pre season track practices twice a week since school started, and soccer 4 times a week with aes for mesac in feb
3) Most of the challenges I face are related mostly to injuries I have, I have bad kneez and sometimes get shinsplints, I will work on my stretching and try to make sure i cool down more thouroughly after workouts.
4) I will know if I achieved my goals if I am able to get gold in my track events at mesac, and set personal bests.

1) What are your personal fitness goals? (Please describe in detail)
My fitness goal is to cut off the unnecessary weight and still be able to keep the strength i have and not lose the progress i have made so far.
2) What are the steps you will take to achieve your goal(s)? (Be specific)
So far this year i have been going to the gym 4/5 days and started doing 20min cardio before i go to the weight section and get mad pumped.
3) What challenges will you have in achieving your goal(s)?
The real challenge in this will be the dieting and doing cardio every time. To diet at school is something difficult because you see all the people around you eating fries, lamb burgers or even brownies and this is a challenge that i have to overcome
4) How will you know when you achieve your goal(s)?
I will feel more energized during the day and have the energy to compete in what ever it is i set my mind to. I will no longer have the difficulties of facing the temptation to not be healthy or not to the gym.0 -
1) What are your personal fitness goals? (Please describe in detail)
I think that my personal fitness goal is to have total body fitness. I want to be able to lift heavy, but have the stamina to go for longer. Jump really high but still be able to touch my toes. I know that since I'm an athlete I'll be looking to build up my lower body agility and strength (soccer and track) but also to get a little wider in my upper body and put on some bulk.
2) What are the steps you will take to achieve your goal(s)? (Be specific)
I've been thinking about doing crossfit or incorporating aspects of it into my workout. But I'm mainly going to getting my lower body workout from cardio and body/power moves (squats). For my upper body I will be doing more weights and body weight movements. I will make a workout plan that is tailored to these goals.
3) What challenges will you have in achieving your goal(s)?
My challenges will be my own dedication and willpower to getting back into shape. I also really love food. Whilst the food I intake is usually healthy, sometimes cravings may get in the way.
4) How will you know when you achieve your goal(s)?
I know I have achieved my goal when I can look in the mirror and know that I look good. Not that I'm not satisfied now, but to be the thing of my goals. Also when I can be the best at the sports that I want to achieve in terms of power and speed.d0 -

I would be careful to not spend too much time working on the said muscle groups in order to have balance.0 -

Your goals really line up with what I'm aiming towards; maybe our workouts will be similar! I really like your idea of teaming up with friends as you all can motivate each other to stay healthy.0 -

Your goals, motivation and logic behind why you want to be fit are really inspiring. I can relate to feeling lazy and having a tendency to make excuses not to exercise. Hopefully we'll both improve our fitness a lot this semester.0 -
Personal Fitness Goal Setting Sheet
1) What are your personal fitness goals? (Please describe in detail)
I overall want to become more fit. Since I have not done a MESAC sport season 2, I feel like I have been very lazy lately and not exercised at all. Specifically I'd like to improve my leg muscles and increase my stamina when running. I'm planning on trying out for softball so I obviously need to be able to run fast and consistently. Additionally, I'd like to become more flexible and stretch regularly to decrease the risk of getting injured.
2) What are the steps you will take to achieve your goal(s)? (Be specific)
I think it will be important to design a good workout that address my goals which is also balanced. I'm planning to use the treadmill or elliptical for at least 10 minutes every personal fitness class and gradually increase the length of my cardio workout. Also at the beginning of every class I'll make sure to stretch properly. The beep test and flexibility test will help me see clearly if I'm improving and reaching my goals.
3) What challenges will you have in achieving your goal(s)?
I don't really enjoy running, as I am a very lazy person. I also get easily distracted in class, so I I need to make a workout plan which I can stick to and do regularly. If I get into the habit of a routine, it will be easier to achieve my goals and overpower my laziness.
4) How will you know when you achieve your goal(s)?
For running, I'll know I achieved my goal when I'm not out of breath after 20 minutes of jogging. For Flexibility, I'd like to achieve a score in the higher 40s. Overall I won't feel as lazy and won't complain as much about exercising.
Comments:
Hannah: I also think that Fitness Pal is a great way to not only monitor workouts, but also food and calories. I struggle to eat healthy especially since I love sweets and chocolates. We can both help each other to eat healthier.
Sara: I'd love to know more about which steps you took to regulate your diet. Also, I noticed how we both have a similar goal in improving our running. During class we should work together on the treadmill or elliptical0 -

Hey Hannah! We have very similar goals to help ourselves physically and mentally in terms of our body, and your ideas have definitely inspired me (especially your answer to Q4). I'm looking forward to working together on becoming fitter together!0 -

Hey Sofea! You and I have very similar ideas about how we want to improve our health. I, too, have changed my diet and started working out a lot more since last semester. Maybe we could collaborate on making an exercise routine and diet plan!0 -
My personal fitness goals consist of being able to stay in the shape I am and in addition, increase my body or muscle mass. I will approach this goal by hitting the gym and using the class time efficiently. Knowing how to use the equipment properly will cut time and give me a quicker result time. Challenges will include distractions, although I don't really find challenges my biggest concern. I will know I've achieved my goals when I see the results and am able to do those things I wasn't able to do prior to training.
18Irider- I like how motivated you are and I wish you the best of luck for that gold medal in track.
17hbaghdadi- I like how honest you are about yourself and I hope you can reach your goals buddy.0 -
My goals for this class consist of increasing my stamina in order to have more productive sports sessions and also get more lean and toned in my legs and stomach. This would also help me when working out or playing sports. I will approach this by making, going to the gym a habit and using class time productive.I will also try and learn about what exercises will help me achieve my specific goals. I think I will find it a bit difficult to stick to the workouts because I don't have enough patience to see results. I know I have achieved the results when I see both the physical change and am able to perform for longer in sports.0

I want a balance of both strength and cardiovascular training. I want to work on improving both my stamina and overall strength equally through my body.
2) What are the steps you will take to achieve your goal(s)? (Be specific)
I think making a good fitness plan is key, instead of just winging it. It would be good to be able to plan out days where I work out different muscles and also incorporate cardio into that.

I think staying focused, it is easy to slack or become discouraged when it comes to working out.

Jillian- I really enjoyed reading about the fact that you will use fitness testing as a source of progress and development. I agree with you that it will be hard at first to get used to working out after a long time, but stay motivated!
ThomasB- It was nice to read about the steps you will take to achieve your goal; it's a great idea! What caught my attention was that you wrote that you won't every reach your goals as you will constantly have new ones; that shows you are very determined.0
