I've been following it from the beginning. It is a farce. Today they finished early, as the panel are trying to prevent him from calling expert witnesses when the HPCSA have had all they want. There is suggestion that he was set up by the complainant, the evidence relating to this is compelling. This is a very sad time for health professionals, scientists and people who refuse to stick to the given line.0

It is a farce, and wow at all the maneuvering by the HPCSA. I can hear them screaming 'Burn the witch!' from here.0

Unfortunately, this is par for the course for the medical industry at the more general level, and not the first time this kind of thing has happened. This kind of head-in-the-sand behavior dates back at the very least to the 50s or so. Dr. Bernstein was one of the pioneers of home blood sugar testing and "eating to the meter" in a time (until the 80s!) when the medical establishment insisted that it was impossible to regulate blood sugar via food and futile and meaningless to test it frequently. Dr. Atkins underwent a lot of the same issues Dr. Noakes is now facing (and hell, he still comes under fire, even though he's dead). Weston Price got similar treatment (and is officially considered a "quack" among ADA dentists, despite the massive improvements that can be seen by including K2). Most of us, here, deal with a ton of resistance from our doctors on one level or another, until we're fortunate enough to find one that gets it (usually, a specialist).
It's astounding just how backwards and medieval the medical industry still is in some aspects.0 -
This could be good. Noakes is starting with evolution:

And this trial is in South Africa, where our species got its start. I've done a couple of bushwalks there. It should be evident to any South African that the savannah is the perfect place to hunt large game, like antelope. Not so good for fruits or veggies. And the baboons eat all the fruit in the short time that there is any to be found.
Noakes is also an expert on the bushmen who still hunt by running down their prey:

Speaking of evolution, this just came across my twitter feed:

@wabmester I know, medicine is a sad state of affairs! Unfortunately money speaks over patients health and the regulating bodies / governments would rather risk people's health than loose money. Most of the great minds in history have be put down and run out of town until after their death. Then they may get the recognition they deserve or not!
Today's events at Prof Noakes hearing was like a master class in nutrition. Unfortunately it seems the hearing is still biased towards the HPCSA and their refusal to play ball from a fairness point of view. It's so sad that a scientist with Prof Noakes credentials has to go through this. I feel that this is a turning point for dietary advice, it's a shame it has to be at the potential expense of someone's career, reputation and personal advice.
In the UK a charity called Public Health Collaboration UK has just been set up. It is the brain child of 12 doctors and a personal trainer with the aim to impact type 2 diabetes, obesity, fatty liver etc with a LCHF way of eating. I'm going to their first conference in June. Let's hope this is the start of something good in the UK.
Your info gram popped up in my Twitter feed too, puts a lot into perspective!0 -
I was so happy when I met my new doctor... he is absolutely an advocate of low carb, high fat and very supportive of my efforts. It was pretty awkward when I first went in and was trying to feel out what his stance was on diet, etc. But we are absolutely on the same page and he has also given me some additional information/resources outside of the "conventional wisdom".0

I agree, it's a complete and utter shame. At the same time, that is so cool to learn about the Public Health Collaboration UK. I love finding out about stuff like this!! Thanks for sharing.0 -
It sounds like this phase of the trial is done and they reconvene in Oct. I think Noakes is going to come out on top. They could not have picked a better guy to mess with. It's not just him on trial. It's not about the tweet. It's LCHF vs the SFA-heart hypothesis.

Doctors don’t want Noakes giving advice that differs from the conventional medical HCLF “wisdom” they regularly prescribe; ADSA dietitians see nutrition advice as their turf. They don’t want Noakes giving nutrition advice if it conflicts with official dietary guidelines and the HCLF advice they regularly dish out – notwithstanding that the guidelines contradict the scientific and factual findings upon which they are based.

This is cool. People tweeting their success stories in support of Tim Noakes during his LCHF trial.

Who is Noakes? Someone catch me up on all the drama.0

Professor in South Africa. Top-tier researcher, author, long-distance runner. Runs the Noakes Foundation and promotes LCHF (Banting).
He tweeted to a mother asking about best diet for her kid. Noakes tweeted "Key is to ween baby onto LCHF."
The head of the SA dietitians association filed suit based on that tweet. It gave Noakes the opportunity to defend the science behind LCHF, but at great personal and financial cost.0 -
@wabmester great photos... inspiring!!0

Great photos, although I had some weird colour blocking hide parts of some of them.0
