wondering how you Swapped from loosing into maintenance. (Or how you plan to) I'm 6+ lbs away and wondering if I should start working on the transition and slowing down the last few lbs? I plan on staying low carb for ever just not on <20 carbs and low protein.

    You are doing great! :)

I'm 3 lbs below my original goal weight and probably want to lose about 2 more lbs and then shift to recomp. My plan is to increase calories by maybe 20/wk and gradually increase carbs (maybe 5 grams/week? 5 grams every 2 weeks?) until I find my sweet spot. I've been doing 20-30 net carbs and I'm guessing maintenance for me might be 50-80 gm total carbs/day, but we'll see. I mostly plan to add more veggies.

Hi @ettaterrell good question. We are in a similar space. I also have 6 lbs to go to what I believe is a sensible goal. Like @macchiatto I may change my mind when I get there. I love @macchiato's suggestion for changes. I have the same thought process you do on upping the carb a little to 20-50 range by adding veggies. Love to hear other ideas. Well done for getting so close.

My body is slowing me up without me trying, so I will stick to VLC for a bit longer before any modifications.

That's how I got to maintenance. Didn't change a thing diet-wise (well, added a little yogurt for some additional calcium). Just waited till my body decided it was done losing weight. I'm happy with where I landed.

Now working on adding a bit of muscle. Talk about slow progress! Losing weight is the easy part. :)

Well I'm not going very low on weight I plan on stopping around 140 my first goal was 150 I might decide to go lower 135 but I'm fine with 140 even for my short stature. Lol

I think my body might be there now. Progress has been veeeery slow lately, and I bounce up and down a little bit. Part of me would really love to lose another 3-4 lbs b/c of the extra belly fat still hanging around, but part of me is getting really tired of eating at a deficit. Feeling like I'm not sure it's worth it just to lose a few more lbs since at this rate that will take me several more months.

Maybe it makes more sense to just shift to recomp now, but I know that will likely be veeery slow going. Or exercise more so I have more exercise calories to eat back. ;)

I have about 7 lbs till goal, I was closer last year lol. But I've already switched to recomp and am seeing good results, enough to the point I'm not as concerned with hitting that weight goal anymore.

@auntstephie321 that's great you are seeing good results! So what is your recomp plan?

I've been doing light weights, Pilates, and planks. As much as my shoulder can handle. I'm eating at a very slight deficit mostly just following my hunger cues. I'm hoping to be able to increase the weights as I get stronger but I already tried doing too much and aggravated my shoulder so I'm resting for another day.

I'm doing a slow transition, since I was on a doctor-supervised very low cal diet (600-850cals) for most of last year. Now, I'm up to 1200-1400 per day, but still running a 1000 cal a day deficit due to exercise. Things have slowed for loss, but I'm definitely getting body recomp now. I'm getting smaller, but the weight is staying the same. I have another 34lbs to goal, but I don't even know if it's a realistic goal. 20 years ago when I was in the best shape, I was 150lbs. I'm 154 now, so maybe I'm just that close to being done. I don't know, so I'm sort of taking the @wabmester approach. I'm carrying a good-size deficit and I'm working out. When I stop losing, I'll stop worrying about it and move into full maintenance.

I started getting hungry and eating, so I am basically eating at maintenance now. I'm eating 500 to 1000 kcal more than I was when I was losing. Usually 2000-2500 kcals per day. When I don't, I am hungry so I figured I would go with it for now.

I'm 5'8" and 150lbs; I'm into a size 8 which I don't think I've been since my mid 20's. I feel like stopping here isn't bad although I had fully intended to get to 140.

Funny thing is, I swear my clothes got looser even though I am eating more. I haven't measured in a long time so I have no way to know if it is just my imagination.

All I did was add in more fat basically. 500-1000lkcals worth. My protein is about 5 g higher but nothing really noticeable. My carbs have been a bit higher, often closer to 30, but I am working to keep it down due to insulin resistance issues.

I am now about 1 kg or 3 lb away from my re-set goal after I met the first goal of a technically "healthy" BMI of 25 a few months ago. My new best friend is one of those weight logging apps that smoothes out the ups and down. So progress which before was slow is now glacial. That is good though because once you get there you want everything to be slow and steady.

In reality these micro-adjustments are of little significance compared to the overall benefit of getting into your healthy zone wherever that is. After a while your body just knows everything and you can trust it to tell you what it wants, what it needs. You can take liberties too and it will just accommodate and there is no drama any more with diet, weight etc. At some point you just stop thinking about it. I used to be a zealot and loved to talk endlessly about these things (diet, carbs, macro nutrients, ketones) and wanted to convert the world onto my new-found diet. Now I hardly give it a second thought. I have no interest in proselytising or finding converts outside of the MFP or low carb community to my way of eating. I just let them go their way and I go mine. In the past I used to partake in other peoples food to be sociable so as not to make them feel uncomfortable; now I will just have a drink of water or black coffee if my friends are eating a meal. Sometimes I just dont have anything at all.

If I have an interest in food now it is noticing just how quickly I can make a delicious meal. How few ingredients I use, often just three or four ingredients. I seldom spend more than ten minutes to cook any meal and sometimes now I just buy ready cooked chickens or slow cooked beef ribs. Today was fried beef steak and lettuce with a few pickles and a bit of grated cheese. Dessert was a few dried cranberries and double cream. Simple elegance.

I stopped lifting weights at the gym and no longer do any aerobic exercise such as walking to "lose weight" just lots of fun, social sports that I love. At 59 years of age I have never felt better in my life.
