Has anyone tracked their food using MFP pre-surgery? I am prepping and met with nutritionist (who doesn't like online trackers) and wonder how to convert 9 oz protein per day and other daily serving goals with percentages on this site. Any suggestions?

You could just not worry about the percentages and follow the ounces. I'm not sure if you can take them out completely- maybe check the "manually enter" goals option? I used MFP during pre surgery and printed my log prior to each nutritionist visit/weigh in. It was much easier for me to keep it accurate than carrying around a journal. Your Nut has to meet you at realistic...as long as you have a complete list of what you're consuming, I can't see what the problem would be.

Yes, I started tracking food a year before surgery. I didn't start tracking on MFP until after surgery, but that was a personal choice.

9oz of protein is about 63g, since each ounce of meat yields 7g of protein. You really need to get out of the "ounces" mentality and start tracking food in grams. Now is the time to learn. Once you get close to your goal weight, that extra "ounce" is going to cause problems. 1oz = 28g so tracking grams makes your deficit tracking 28x more accurate. Once you're close to goal, accuracy matters a lot.

When I was 200lbs over, it didn't matter. I could literally eat all I wanted and still lose. Now I'm about 30lbs to goal, an extra "ounce" can mean an extra 200-400 calories and that kills my deficit for the day. That means all of that work all day long went into the toilet. But using grams, I can parse that ounce into grams and if I want a treat, I know I can get 100 calories of treat, not 200ish. If I weren't being accurate, I'd have stalls and plateaus. I don't.
