SUCCEED Study
The Universities of Cal-SF & Michigan (and perhaps others) are seeking overweight, type 2 diabetics to participate in a low-carb study:
A Ketonix breath ketone tester may be something some participants receive.
For whatever reason, I didn't qualify. But I'm sure I've never been so delighted over a rejection letter. (Check out the references.)

Hi,
Thanks very much for your interest in the online SUCCEED study.
Unfortunately, you are ineligible for our study. Because of the way research is done, we can only include individuals who meet our pre-specified entry criteria.
We recommend talking to your doctor about any dietary changes you may decide to start, especially if you are taking insulin or other medications for your diabetes besides metformin (since on a low-carb diet, in combination with those medications, your blood sugar can go too low).
However, if would like to learn more about low-carbohydrate diets, weight loss, and diabetes, we recommend the books “The Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Living," “Why We Get Fat," and "Keto Clarity: Your Definitive Guide to the Benefits of a Low-Carb, High-Fat Diet."
For learning more about low-carbohydrate recipes, you might look at, for example:

Best wishes,

Yep, me too.
The darnedest thing is, I might have been eligible if I weren't already a passenger!0 -
Ugh. It's wonderful they are doing a study on low carb, but I almost feel like it's unethical that they'll be randomizing people to the ADA diet. I guess that's considered current standard of care.0

They need a control group, and the best way to do stuff is to randomize, otherwise you get biases. Does suck for the ones stuck on ADA, though.0 -
I wonder how long the study is, how long until results are published and (haha) what the findings will be??0

Vegas odds are even on the study being terminated early.0
