Water fasts or Fat fasts?

I am making my way through Dr Fung's videos. He recommends water fasts with bone broth for longer fasts. I have only fasted from dinner to dinner, not longer, so water fasts only.
I have heard of fat fast elsewhere but I don't know what they are. Does anyone here? Has anyone tried them?

Sounds like you are talking about a protein sparing modified fast.

A recent study came out where they took a group of overweight men and cut their calories by 40% +- 10%. They kept their protein intake high though. Even with such a degree of calorie restriction the group lost fat but maintained their muscle.0 -
I have never tried either. As far as I can tell, a fat fast is several days of eating 80-90% fat while staying around 1000 calories. Protein is definitely not recommended on a fat fast as obviously the goal is to eat a lot of fat. I think people usually use it to break a stall. I don't no a thing about water fasts but here is a link for info about fat fasts. http://ketodietapp.com/Blog/post/2014/08/14/Complete-Guide-to-Fat-Fast0

Damn 90% fat. I would have no idea what to consume to keep my protein low. Just chug olive oil?1

That would work. LOL. The link has a "meal" plan for the fat fast. Lots of avocado, macadamia nuts, heavy cream, butter. Some veggies.0

Thanks guy and for all the links. Wow, fat fast would really upset my tummy, I think.0

Dana Carpender's Fat Fast Cookbook comes highly recommended: http://www.amazon.com/Fat-Fast-Cookbook-Recipes-Weight-ebook/dp/B00BGGBE20
I have only done one weekend fat fast/IF and it did help me lose after a stall. One caveat I have read about IF in general (not a short-term fat fast) is to make sure that you eat your entire day's calories--whether at maintenance or somewhat less than your TDEE in order to lose in the chosen eating window. Otherwise the muscle loss problem can rear its ugly head. If your daily cals are over 2,000, that can be a lot to scarf down. So up those high calorie fats.0 -
I know a lot of people who do nothing but macadamia nuts when on a fat fast.0
