I was skimming some of the threads in the Type 2 Diabetes Support Group today, and some of the advice there is scary.

For the carb-intolerant/insulin resistant among the newly-diagnosed T2Ds who happened to join that group and not the LCD group, I would hate to see them prolong their health problems by following advice to adopt ADA and similar high-carb diets.

FYI, here's a comment I posted today in a T2DSG thread started by a confused T2D patient looking for answers.

Thx!

Please, please, please, don't go and bombard that group with low-carb advice. Go, participate, offer help if someone wants it. But, this is really bordering on the behavior we've been accused of in the past (ganging up and pummeling threads in the main forums). I know this is a group and not the main forums, but the same thing still applies.

Remember, others are entitled to their opinions and they've got a right to recommend the "standard advice" to others. We might see a better way, but we've got to be respectful and not drown out other views. I'm going to leave this up, but respectfully ask that people remain aware of the image it gives when a thread starts being responded to by dozens of people from this group. If a couple people have already responded with low-carb advice, maybe let those guys handle it.

I know it's not *fair* that we have to be careful and sometimes hold our tongue to not get accused of ganging up on other areas. I think these people could probably all benefit from low-carb. But, I don't want this group to get in trouble for it.

Maybe just tell what helps you and let them know you're open to answering their questions if they are curious and ask them to message you.

A great suggestion. If folks want to go there and state what's working for you as T2Ds who've made more drastic dietary changes, that would be great.
