eating and hunger

so I was just wondering what everyone else is doing. I find that I am not hungry most of the day I have my Quest bar in the am with coffee and hwc and I am not hungry for lunch. Do you still try to eat 3 meals a day and snack when you are not hungry? or do you eat only when you are hungry? I just think I would not be able to get in all my macros if I did not eat my 3 meals?

If you're not hungry, then don't eat.

There will be days when you're not hungry and then they are usually balanced out with days that you could eat the entire world and not be satisfied.

Maybe if you are worried about hitting your macros, eat more when you *are* hungry?

I am rarely hungry in the morning so I typically have a coffee with hwc and don't eat a meal until 2 or 3 p.m. I have days where I'm more hungry than others so I eat more. I figure it all evens out in the end. I try to listen to my body and not eat when I'm not hungry.

eat when hungry, don't eat when not hungry. when you are hungry be mindful of your macros. if you are eating too much fat and not enough protein try to keep that in line with what is appropriate for your body size. don't eat just to eat because you think you should

thanks for info I guess i have been brainwashed from other diets that say eat small every 3-4 hrs and you need to eat to lose weight. My weight loss has been really slow and its prob because i am eating when i am not hungry im eating because its dinner time.

It's a tough habit to break, the longer you follow this woe the easier it will get

I am finding that my current diet is really killing my appetite. I cooked 490g of ground beef earlier, ate about 2/3 with the intention of eating the rest tonight, and have no hunger now at all.

But, I am not going to force myself to eat when not hungry. That's one of the factors that made me morbidly obese.

My advice: eat when hungry. Don't eat when you're not.

I am intermittent fasting most days now due to low appetite in the morning, so lately it's been 2 meals plus a snack. At noon it's usually a coffee with cream, cacao, stevia and collagen protein powder. Then I usually have a lunch salad ~3pm, and a normal keto dinner ~7:30pm. I don't eat past 8pm much anymore either. If I snack in between meals it will usually be a piece of cheese, a few nuts or a decaf coffee with some cream. Very different then what I ever did before! And I really like it, it works very well for me.

Yep. I have my hungry and not hungry days. As long as your'e not netting very low calories regularly, you'll be fine.

I believe there both answers are right. Everyone thus far has said not to eat when not hungry, and that's worked for them, and it's an entirely workable and good answer.

I am of a different school of thought, since I find that forcing myself to eat my daily meal plan (whether I'm hungry or not...before the end of the day) or a "close enough" approximation, so I consume around 1,200 calories daily, is what works for me, to help minimize feelings of being hungry later on.

So both approaches are good. Everyone has their own preference. Maybe you could try each approach for a while and see what works best for you?

My approach has been the same as many above! I don't eat when I'm not hungry. I've found that the unhungry (not meeting my macros) days even out with hungrier days in the end. Finding what works for you, and makes you feel the best, is the key!

Interesting stuff you all are sharing! I like the idea of not eating when I'm not hungry and am still trying to get past the whole 3 meals/day expectation. But the thing I struggle with is that the hunger cues I get now are so different. I don't have the rumbly stomach, it's more of an empty feeling. Does anyone else feel like it's harder to read hunger signals on this WOE?

@kimmydear My stomach gurgles, even when I'm not hungry. I will have just eaten a meal - and 30 mins later, it is making a weird gurgling noise. I choose to ignore it because I know it's not actual hunger.

Yeah @samanthaluangphixay, I would ignore that too 30 minutes after eating! This is just the weirdest feeling for someone who is used to having that happen.

I recently have stopped eating to just eat because it is time. I eat only when I am hungry mostly except for dinner time. I will only eat a small portion if not hungry at dinner.
I also feel my hunger signs have changed. I also don't get grumbly but do experience the "empty feeling" and I get very tired.

I've always been hit or miss with breakfast but most days its coffee with HWC or half and half if that's all I have at work. Lunch, I find I try to get in around noon-ish as if I wait longer than that, I'm famished the rest of the day. Dinner is around 6 or 7, with a dessert after (Nuts, SF Jello and whipped cream, some Keto friendly dessert) and I'm solid. I do tend to pack more calories into those two meals but I think that's part of having things like butter and cheese too!! I seem to come it right at goal for the most part.

But I have days were I'm hungry all day and others, like the past couple, where I can barely get to 1200!! I don't worry about it like I did when I only did CICO that's for sure!!

I had a real bad problem of figuring out when I was hungry when I first started this diet. Really, mostly I ate when I was Not hungry but there were times I didn't eat when I was hungry, especially on low calorie diets. Then the hunger would build and build until I exploded in a binge episode. There were times I would eat too much because I knew that on my diet I could not eat again for X number of hours or the next day.

I'm trying to get back in touch with my normal feelings of satiety and hunger. I found that if I forced myself to eat I was not listening to my body. The same for fasting. If I force myself Not to eat, I lose touch with the feelings of hunger and fullness. It puts a level of conscience control into something that should come naturally. The Always Hungry diet is really good about explaining that.

Anyway, the best way for me is to listen to my body and eat when I'm hungry until full and don't eat when I'm not hungry no matter what time it is.

Today, i wasn't hungry at all, ran errands like a dervish... then, whoa, starving! I made Fat Head pizza for the first time and scarfed the first piece so fast that I know it didn't hit bottom before i started the second piece. It was so rich that it made me sick! :( I think i need to start listening to my body hunger cues better.

@cedarsidefarm One of the podcasts I listened to recently (I think it was Leanne from www.healthfulpursuit.com) focused on getting back in touch with your real hunger, and eating fat and salt each time you felt hungry during adaption, even if you weren't sure you were really hungry. She used a hunger scale of 0-5. Zero - I'm uncomfortable and couldn't possible eat another bite. 5 - hangry- people better get out of my way or I'll eat THEM. She said she tries to never eat until she's at a 3. Even at social gatherings when she's not hungry necessarily, most times she won't order food, but if she does, when she's not hungry, she'll eat a few bites, then box up the rest to take home.

One of my favorite hunger indicators I stole from @FIT_Goat, I think, "If I'm not hungry for what I planned to eat or what is on plan for me, I'm not really hungry, and I should wait until I am hungry for that." Also, I use the "where is the hunger coming from" test. If I feel hungry in my head, I'm not hungry. If I don't feel it in my body, particularly my stomach, then it's likely not hunger but boredom or stress, etc., eating. Then, if I'm pretty sure it's real hunger, I go back to test 1.
