Time for a new week
And it's a short one in Switzerland....Ascension on Thursday, thus I'm off work from Wednesday at 12h until Sunday. Weather is supposed to be awesome too. After a very cold spring, it is definitely time for some fun in the sun!
Fast day today has gone pretty well. Will do a low day tomorrow. My colleague's 50th tomorrow and she is bringing some yummies. I will enjoy them and keep lunch and dinner as if it were a fast day. The rest of the week is full of social fun stuff...Birthday party on wednesday, bike ride with a friend Thursday, helping on the building site Friday, golf course on Saturday (first time ever!), thus no time for fasting until next Monday I shall do my best as I really want to get these extra kilos from the last 1/2 yr back off. They are pesky and my eating has been less than perfect.
Have a great week and enjoy the days off, if you are one of the lucky ones too.

Having got back onto 5:2 I am to look at my weeks diary and plan to have no more than 1 session eating out. If we are going to socialise then i need to be mindful the rest of the week and plan for that session. I also have a book to read which is about our bodies and them sabotaging us deliberately when we seem to be doing so well. I will let you know how I get on with it but I think it relates to chemicals released by the body, etc,etc.0

Halfway through my first low cal day in ages and it's going great- no issues with hunger or energy (I even got in a brisk 1 mile walk earlier).

The book is The Diet Trap by Judith Beck. It looks interesting and isn't a diet book per se but training our brains to lose weight. Will let you know how I get on0

Thanks, Julie, for the reference. I'm with Flumi...self-sabotage seems to be an appropriate word to describe what I've been doing lately. Keep us posted and I may read it and do the same!0

Fast Day #1 easily done. Found a new low calorie protein - Ahi tuna. Was on sale for $6.99/lb and 8 oz was more than enough to fill me. Added a big veggie salad w/ low calorie dressing and under 400 calories total.0

Looking forward to my first successful FD on the week. I'm not sure what I'll be making for dinner, but I'm determined to stick to my 500 cals. I just got my costume for our ballet recital and it fit!!! No alterations needed at all. I'm going to keep it that way!!1

Great fast today! Had an awesome ballet class and a great 500 cal meal of a chickpea salad with avocado ranch dressing (all vegan). I've been grilling veggies on the BBQ as a preemptive strike for lunches. Having them on hand for a veggie panini with some melted daiya cheez (when you see cheese spelled as cheez, you know it's vegan ;-) is pretty tasty. Looking ahead to Friday, which can be tricky. I do like pizza and beer, which, unfortunately is NOT 5:2 friendly. Have a great rest of the week, friends!1

Well it's mid week hope everyone is doing well! I had s pretty good fd yesterday and today I'm going out for lunch with the parents, so I'll just be smart about my choice but not too strict. Flossy, what the heck is in cheez if it's vegan ??? Is it still a protein? All I can think of is maybe it's soy based. My daughter is lactose intolerant but still has cheese at times anyway. Although , she's the type to not try something because of the goofy spelling!

Haha, Mama!! Yes, it sounds like an oxymoron. There are many different types of vegan cheez, my favorite being Daiya brand. But there is a pretty awesome recipe for "cheese" using boiled potatoes and carrots (along with some other ingredients) that looks like velveeta. Of course, it doesn't truly replicate cheese, but it's pretty darn tasty!! I used to try to fool my kids, but it backfired, so instead of passing it off as cheese, I call it veg dip because that's what it's made from. But Daiya works well for pizza and quesadillas.0

BTW, some cheez is soy based, some are nut based.0

Thanks Flossy, I'll be sure to look at stores near me for that brand. To make a quesadilla would be good for her....she naturally doesn't like cheese I'm sure because it makes her feel bad.
My lunch out was great except for what I ordered!! Cajun chicken sandwich with tomatoe/lettuce etc.... The only good part was the toasted seeded bread! Not sure if it's all my reduced style of eating, and lack of goopy typed sandwiches in my life, but I did not enjoy it at all, but of course I ate it anyway since I was sitting beside my dad and remembering there are "people starving in Rwanda"!!!!!!! Now, I haven't even had dinner & I'm chugging back some wine after my long day!! Aaaannnnd... I have a total of ONE exercise calorie burned today!! Stellar day for sure! cheers to tomorrow!1 -
Sounds like it was a good day then Mama. I remember those days I am sure that is why I am overweight as we had to clear our plates. My least favourite was stuffed marrow I didn't mind the mincemeat ( which I ate first) but then all that was left was the sloppy marrow still can't eat it to this day.1

All 5:2 weeks start with the first FD - best part here is you can come and go from the diet and do it in spurts of good times and then cruise along in the more difficult times0 -
Start of FD#2. Yesterday was our first 100F day here in Phoenix so I'm off the bike today. Headed into office now in my workout clothes to do a run on the treadmill before starting the day. We're due for a chill down to the 70s this weekend so I'm planning a hike and a golf outing to take advantage of the weather. Meal plan is half can of light Progresso soup w/ extra veggies at lunch (100 cal) and Spaghetti w/ veggies one pot meal for 350 cal.1

It's a holiday here. Had a great bike date. The route I chose got us both huffing and puffing on the last incline ;-) 34km and 2.5h with forests, river, lakes, old monestary and blossoming trees and crops along the way. He treated me to a very nice picnic at km 30...After the 30km and a bottle of wine, we were both glad the 4km home were all downhill Had a lovely active day with a nice man and a got an invitation to brunch on Saturday to boot. I'll take that

Ladies you sound so active. I would love to be able to do all of that and more but until I have my knee operation it is all I can do to get though the day in one piece. Have managed the second FD of the week with just enough left for some skinny popcorn. Feeling mighty pleased with myself. Hope you all have a good evening.1

Congrats, Flumi! What a wonderful way to spend the day!! Julie, it is sooo frustrating to not be able to exercise when you want to. I wish a painless surgery and a speedy recovery. On another note, I don't know about my friends from outside of the United States, but has anyone else been paying attention to the buzz about the study done on Season 8 Biggest Loser contestants? The fallout of this study is downright depressing and has such far-reaching implications. For those of you who aren't aware of what's been going on, here's the link:

I think that is often a problem when you lose weight too quickly and don't have time to train your brain at the same time. There was a programme some months ago in the UK that looked at the fact that your body will sabotage your weight loss and send out a chemicals to make you crave certain foods. Seems like this might be the case with this programme and I suppose whilst they are involved in the programme they are 'in the zone' to speak.0

@flossyruby1 I've been really interested in that study, too, and it jives very much with the reading I've been doing lately (The Obesity Code, books about intermittent fasting). I know that MFP is kinda built around it, but I think it's safe to say that the whole Calorie In - Calorie Out theory of weight loss has been completely debunked. Because your resting metabolism is set by your body and is not a "constant" that the MFP calculators would have you think. And your hunger and satiety is controlled largely by your hormones.
@Juliemoo1960 Unfortunately I don't think it's a result of 'too fast' weight loss. They've done studies comparing groups who were made to lose weight fast and those who were made to lose weight slowly, and there was no difference in success rates. Most people in both groups regained the weight. I think calorie-restriction diets just don't work in the long term for the vast majority of people.
Luckily for us, I think fasting is part of the answer. I don't think it works because it lowers your totally calories for the week, but because it regulates your insulin levels. There's still a lot of research that needs to be done (I'm not aware of any long-term studies that have looked at weight loss maintenance in people who lost weight through fasting), but I think the science that's there is pretty convincing.0 -

Yes I read a little about that article in the news, although I gotta admit I've never seen the show. These contestants were probably not educating themselves enough about the aftermath - sounds like they lost enormous amounts of weight in too short of a time span.... What's that saying... Slow & steady wins the race? Pretty true here.

But I originally came here to brag. I've had a couple of 'muh' weeks, with only one fast day and one workout each (and a fair amount of overeating the rest of the time), so I obviously haven't lost more weight. But, I'm on my second fast day for this week, and I just figured out what I'm having for dinner tonight. Because I can eat like half a pound of it on some salad for 250 calories. And because I live in Rhode Island and it's on sale for $5.88/lb today.

The fourth of 4 days off all with perfect weather and lots of outdoor activities . Off for another bike tour and picnic with my new friend. This time in his area....more hills than mine
Golf course was fun yesterday. First time ever. Might do a preliminary 4 day course soon.
Fast day and biking to work tomorrow. But first I'm going to enjoy today to its fullest

Sounds like it is a fun filled time. Sat in the garden yesterday as the weather is great at the moment here in the UK. Off for an eye test today and maybe some new glasses0
