This IUI procedure hurt a little more than a pap and a little more than I remember it hurting last time. The doctor used a less flexible catheter then last time and I have a tilted cervix, so he scratched me trying to insert it. And he kept scratching me trying to get the angle right. Finally he gave up and got a more flexible catheter and it didn't hurt much after that. I had a little spotting yesterday.
The last time I remember it feeling just like a pap. Not really painful, just a little uncomfortable.0 -
For me, when they injected the sperm I had some significant cramping and felt a little rough the rest of the day. So it was worse than a pap but definitely not bad. I would agree not really painful just a little uncomfortable.0

I just started a new cycle after my cysts cleared up. I'm taking injectables again 100iu for six days and then I go in for another checkup and see where we go from there. The plan is trigger shot and iui!0 -

I'm also starting a new cycle. Last cycle was a bust. But I really don't mind. I understand it takes a few tries. In an odd way I'm actually relieved.
I don't struggle with infertility. Actually I deal with the opposite....hyperfertilty. It's super easy for me to get pregnant. Way too easy.
I've conceived naturally two times within one cycle of TTC. First shot. One other time I conceived on the second cycle. All three were late ovulations (CD25, CD44 and CD29).
My RE thinks whatever causes me to have delayed ovulation is also causing my uterine lining to not mature properly. It doesn't differentiate between good and bad embryos and it allows things to implant that shouldn't. This is linked to a leutal phase defect even though my leutal phase legnth is normal. And it can be a result of poor egg quality and a weak ovulation and low progesterone levels.
My son was a Clomid baby conceived on the 3rd cycle of trying (more like normal fertility). It was textbook CD 14 ovulation.
I think it's harder for me to concieve on Clomid than naturally, and it may be because whatever is normalizing my ovulation pattern is also helping my uterine lining mature properly.

Just had my second IUI this weekend. I had 2 follicles this time vs. just one last time. But we are dealing with both male and female factors. So we will see.0

@pineygirl @andisue50 Sooo I went in for my ultrasound checkup (I'm still taking injectables), and my dr said he didn't like the way I was progressing and told me he wants to convert my iui cycle to an ivf cycle!!!!
Not only was I shocked but it came out of nowhere. The plan was iui, and if it was unsuccessful then maybe another iui? I don't know.
But the problem is I create too many follicles. My RE said he did not like the way my body was responding to the injectables and I run the risk of hyper stimulating again. Right now I have about 5 follies on my left side and 4 on my right. All growing at the same rate.
From my understanding, ivf can cost upward of 15k-20k, with retrieval, transfer, and meds. My RE said since my insurance doesn't cover anything, he is willing to give us a huge discount. He will perform the procedure for 5k.
After having 6 hours to think it over, we decided what the heck, and go for it. I'm taking 150iu, plus a new injection that we have to dilute with water? and then ANOTHER daily injection- which makes 3 injections per day. And then we'll perform trigger shot and then retrieval.
I'm scared, nervous, excited... a lot of emotions. Too many. I haven't told anyone and I don't want to tell anyone. I told my husband not to tell his family either. I don't know why, but I feel like they'll pass negative judgement about the whole ivf process? I don't know...

@LolaDeeDaisy23 OMG...that's so exciting...
Hyperstimulation is more common in women with PCOS. We have more follicles to start with so when we are stimulated we often produce too many. My RE won't even consider letting me use injectables. The ultrasound to show how I was processing with Clomid showed 16 follicles all around 10 to 12mm. Two days later I had 2 dominant follicles. If I were on injectables I could have had way more than two. And I'm not interested in high order multiples...I'm actually nervous about twins, since my last pregancy was a twin pregnancy.
My RE says if Clomid and IUI doesn't work after 3-4 attempts ....next step is IVF.
Thats an awesome discount. We're not doing IVF because of the cost.... and if my chance of miscarriage is 75 to 80%....even if I get pregnant with IVF....it might not result in an actual baby.

Wow, @LolaDeeDaisy23 , that's a lot to take in suddenly! I know my RE suggested we move on to IVF instead of finishing our 3 IUI attempts because of our male factor but I don't think we are ready for that step yet. The doctor just had me on Letrozole, not injectables- I think she tries to avoid injectables because of the risk of overstimulation.
That is definitely a very good price for IVF. I'm sorry you feel like your family would pass judgement. I don't know your family, but I know that mine has been very encouraging and supportive. They may surprise you. My mother-in-law even encouraged my husband to pursue IUI/treatments when he had reservations which surprised me because she's usually very anti-doctors and medicine.

Just wanted to keep everyone updated, esp those considering ivf. Tomorrow is egg retrieval day. I'm nervous and excited and so so RELIEVED that I am done taking injections in the belly. I had to take a trigger shot last night and this afternoon. Exactly 12 hours apart. Every day this week I've had to come in for blood tests and ultrasounds. I have about 15 follicles on each ovary. Sizes ranging from 16-24. I'm so damn uncomfortable from the bloating. I feel like my insides are bouncing when I'm walking. I thought it was all in my head until my dr said "oh my, your ovaries have gotten so large they're almost touching. If they're touching, they'd be 'kissing ovaries.'" I'm guessing it's a normal side effect for them to grow this large?
The plan is to retrieve all the eggs. Fertilize them. Freeze them. And then transfer them in 6-8 weeks, depending on how quickly my ovaries recover.
I asked them about a "fresh transfer" instead of frozen and the dr said there's a very high risk of hyper stimulating with a fresh cycle bc my body is going through so much. I don't know what to expect tomorrow but I will keep everyone updated! Hopefully all this trouble will bring me my little miracle.

Egg retrieval was today. I woke up in the hospital room to the dr telling me my follicles never matured so he didn't retrieve any eggs from my right ovary!! He left my left ovary untouched. I took Lupron as my trigger both times before the surgery. After the surgery, they gave me another shot, hcg, and said he wants me undergo ANOTHER surgery tomorrow. Hopefully this trigger makes my left follicles mature and we can get some eggs. I was told this was very rare. Of course I would be that one rare case.
After crying on and off all day, I've come to terms with it. It is what it is and I can only hope for the best.0 -

Today was egg retrieval day 2. Luckily they were able to get 9 eggs but they were all immature. They're going to incubate them overnight and undergo IVM (in vitro maturation). I tried to research it but there's not much information about it. I will receive another call tomorrow about my eggs' status.0

That explains a lot, though, doesn't it? If with medications and manual intervention, it's almost no wonder your body can't do it on it's own, eh???0

@KnitOrMiss Just got the call... Out of the 9 eggs they retrieved, 7 of them matured!!! I'm so happy that part one is done. The eggs are being fertilized via ICSI (where they basically inject a single sperm into each of the mature eggs). I will receive another call tonight regarding whether the fertilization was successful or not.
I honestly thought the eggs were not going to mature and this cycle was over for me. I just need to stay positive! Positive vibes all around.1 -
Got the call tonight. Out of the seven eggs that matured, 6 were fertilized! I'm cautiously happy at this point in time. Currently waiting on my Drs response.0

Still recovering from egg retrieval. Because I was given that extra trigger shot, my ovaries swelled up and that's what's giving me so much pain. I went in for a check up a few days ago and a normal size ovary is 3-5cm and my ovaries are 11cm by 13cm. They are so big and swollen that they are touching!! I literally look 5 months pregnant. Dr said I'm so tiny that my ovaries are what's making my tummy protrude out.
Anyway, they gave me Vicodin and cabergoline.
Today the embryologist called and said out of the 6 fertilized eggs, only 2 were high quality blastocysts. So they are freezing those two and discarding the rest. I'm a bit disappointed that they were only able to get two because I'm still fairly young, you'd think I'd have awesome eggs.
But after my surgery, I haven't really gotten a chance to really recover. I had two surgeries, one on wed and one on thurs. I went right back to work the next day and Saturday. Had Sunday and Tuesday off. Worked Monday and today. My job is semi active, I walk on average 8k-12k steps per day at work. Today I started getting really sharp pains where my ovaries are located. I feel like I'm being a baby and my manager is not very forgiving when it comes to me taking sick days. Ugh idk what to do. Am I being a baby? I just need to vent to someone sorry guys.0 -
You aren't being a baby, but there's a certain part of this that is expected. I wish we could share with men 1/10th of the freaking discomfort we enduring with all things female, just to give them some perspective of why it's not whining and such...
How is your boss going to handle it once you ARE expecting??? There will be doctor's appointments and days you may be pukey and all that...
PCOS affects egg quality - you knew that, right? That's part of why it's harder to get pregnant and why miscarriage rates are higher... I think it is Inositol that helps with that...the maturation rates, in addition to whatever Rx meds docs do, for future reference. I think you're taking it, if I recall, but might need to combine types the myo and the other form, etc. I dunno...

Oh no, you absolutely need to rest. It'll be far worse for you and your employer if you develop complications because you didn't give yourself enough time to recover. Plus this has been a hell of an emotional roller coaster for you and that needs time to heal too.0

So, I am checking back in after being MIA. Started seeing a RE and last cycle was put on birth control in order to time some tests. Now, I am off the birth control and waiting for my period to start so we can get on with this cycle. I am currently about 5 days past my normal start and I am worried the birth control has messed up my cycles.
Anywho, once I start, I am going to start Femara for CD 5-9, then an ultrasound, then if my follicles are nice and ripe a trigger shot of Novarel, plus timed intercourse. I am really excited to get started on this cycle.....but my darn period will not start!
@LolaDeeDaisy23 - I would never consider you a baby after going through two surgeries and going straight back to work! This process is tough physically, mentally and emotionally. Those who never walked in our shoes just don't understand. You need to take care of yourself first and foremost.0 -

Update: I was on strict bed rest for a week and it took almost 2 and a half weeks for the bloating to subside. The bloating was seriously no joke. I gained about 12 pounds of water weight and none of my jeans fit. I'm on birth control pills to get rid of the leftover cysts. I go in for another ultrasound on the 21st to see if everything looks good and back to normal. If yes, then I can start preparing for the transfer!! I am already starting to pick out clothes for my cute baby bump lol I know I shouldn't but I can't help it.. I think about the possibility of all this working and I get so excited. I need to stop though or else I can jinx it lol just need to remain positive and hopeful.0 -

I went in for my ultrasound yesterday. Ovaries are back to normal size (yay!) but I still have one remaining cyst... but they checked my progesterone level and it is low so RE decided for me to stop taking birth control pills and move on with the transfer process.
I am already taking prenatals and will be starting estrogen meds (Estrace). Need to go in for another blood test a few days after my period. Will keep updating on here.
I feel like this process is literally dragging. I don't know how some women can do multiple ivf cycles. It's so emotionally draining.1 -
Went in for a lining check today. Lining looks good, 8mm. They said everything is good to go for the transfer!! I'm still taking estrogen twice per day and I'm going to start progesterone tomorrow, three times a day. They're transferring my best 5 day embryo next Thursday. After that, I go back in 11 days later for my beta pregnancy test.
I'm nervous but excited! Btw, estrogen makes me hungrier than ever!!!2 -

Ok ladies soooo it's about 1am right now and I can't sleep because tomorrow morning is my transfer!!!
They will thaw one frozen embryo and hopefully it sticks. I'm excited, nervous, scared...
