Personal Victory: Feeling Sick After Carb Loading

So I've been doing a LC/HF mostly paleo diet the last two weeks and it's been amazing. Yesterday I decided to cheat and splurge on pizza and garlic bread. Normally, that's a weekly part of my diet and I haven no problem with it.
Now... after having my pizza and garlic bread yesterday (which I've never had problems with before) I felt extremely sick for the rest of the night.
I'm taking this as a good sign since my body's getting used to LC/HF and now that I know what happens to my body when I carb overload.... I'll be cheating a much less.
Last night... and this revelation... is a victory!

It's rather ironic to me how our opinions on "victories" change as time goes on, the carb fog fades, and reality returns! Congrats.0

Yep, had that happen too. I've really only overloaded on carbs a couple of times since I started this at the end of January. The motivation to NOT feel sick is pretty strong now.1

@AndyPGonzalez I agree once we change to a way of eating the body prefers it can let us know if we revert.
There is nothing wrong with cheese per se for Keto but a couple days ago I realized I had not eaten cheese in 2-3 months. I just stopped reaching for it. Tree nuts seem to be my 'go to' food even after a meal.
While I have not had carb cravings for well over a year now I do think all cravings may be the body saying "Eat More" in hopes we put in the right missing nutrients by chance. My urge to eat/not eat certain foods now seems to be an automated process by the brain.

With all the magnesium discussions posted here I got started even on liquid magnesium and made a better selection of the capsule source. Maybe that is why I stopped reaching for cheese that is one 6" from my hand several times daily?2 -
Weird thing is it's only been two weeks and I've had a couple cheat meals before and felt ok.1

Andy "weird" is just another way to spell 'keto'.2

it happens, sometimes you feel fine after and sometimes you feel like something died in your gut. I don't know why I don't always get the same result when eating lots of carbs, but it keeps it interesting0 -
That's great that this happened to you! I am hoping I feel like crap tomorrow because I just gave new meaning to the phrase "carb loading"!! Carb hoarding maybe? Carb gorging? Carb overload...that's it!1

Now you know so may of us refer to it as "carbage." lol1

Been there done that...

same thing happened to me, I had a high carb day (even though it wasn't high net carbs) and I was soooo sick. I felt bloated and my stomach was rock hard. Then the nasty tasting burps started. Yucky, but I ended up throwing up...the whole days worth of food and felt so much better afterwards. Knowing that cheating = puking is enough to keep me on track now!0

My husband isn't as struck keto as I am, but he is now able to see the effect of carbs after eating, and doesn't like it. Makes him avoid the higher carbage. Me, I avoid them all easily, because of the pain response that I have. They aren't worth it!
Sorry you felt bad, but it's a good thing to see what they can do to you!0 -
Out of curiosity. . . it's been a while since I've eaten a LOT of sugar, but today, a colleague made s'more's brownies for a company event, and I ate one. Now it feels like my heart is trying to pound its way out of my chest. Almost like a blood pressure spike. Has anyone experienced something like this?0

Not since starting this WOE but I've had that happen in the past when I've consumed a bunch of sugar. It would usually be followed by a migraine. Not sure what it's all about but it passes, so don't let it freak you out ;-)1 -
The body is pretty smart, and it gives us a great deterrent to keep us from eating a load of carbs. I haven't done it yet in the 4 months in Keto, but have pushed my own 'allowed carbs' limits and felt queezie.0

Considering that sugar is a poison as far as our body's concerned, this doesn't surprise me. I get migraine level headaches, but I hadn't particularly noticed increased heart rate or anything. I do feel a bit like what I imagine feeling high on speed feels like - like super powered energizer bunny type of crap... I should note that I do take a beta blocker blood pressure medication, so it likely limits the racing heart feeling.0
