Beef Bacon

I was shopping at Kroger the other night and found some Beef Bacon made by John Morrell. I have never heard of it before. Later on, I called two of my friends that were in their 60's and asked them if they ever heard of it, they hadn't. I'm guessing its new.
So tonight I cooked/ate some and here is my review (comparing to regular pork bacon):
1) it cooked the same, I didn't add any oil, it had plenty of fat.
2) It didn't render as much fat as pork bacon.
3) Taste was 4 out of 5 stars (pork bacon being a 5).
4) The texture was more stringy.
5) It was a little pricy. I think I paid $5 for 12 oz. (I can't find the receipt) It could've been $5.99.
Here are some pics:
I want to try this on other recipes, maybe on a hamburger, with eggs, etc.
Yes, I did notice it has nitrates...
I hope this helps,

Hmm....interesting!0

Maybe similar to brisket, just seasoned like pork bacon? Will try it if I come across it!0
-
Yes hubby likes it...me, not so much0

What? Pretend bacon? How dare they even use the word "bacon" for a sham like that. Sacrilegious!2

It once had a pulse, therefore I'll eat it. Now I just have to get my hands on it.2

Maybe it's regional, I used to see it all the time growing up but not so much lately. Taste is so-so, not much like *actual* bacon but ok in its own right.0

No Kroger food stores near me, i wonder if it's even sold in South Florida?0

We have Kroger all over near me, but I've never seen that. Then again, I wasn't exactly looking hard either. I am a very "get exactly what I am here for" kind of shopper. I'll keep an eye out next time.1

Just goes to show they'll try to market anything as bacon.
Chicken bacon.
Turkey bacon.
Ham bacon.
Beef bacon.
What's next? Salmon bacon?
Bacon is pork belly. Only.
Nothing else.
And everything is better with bacon!
Even beef bacon. Lol1 -
Shhhh, if sausage can be made with any kind of meat, so can bacon.0

I've seen that brand at Save A Lot, though I haven't looked at bacon there recently, so I don't know if they carry Beef Bacon, but they do carry MANY other John Morrell product lines, so it's very possible.0

John Morrell "regular" bacon is so good!!!
Beef bacon is something I just don't know if I have the guts to try!! Your review makes me want to attempt it but I am very leery of anything but pork belly masquerading as bacon! Lol0 -
I can ditto that "beef bacon" tastes good, our local Halal grocery carries it. It's not "bacon" but it is still a great protein option for variety. (although I haven't seen this one in stores, I'll have to see if our grocery is carrying it).
Also delicious..."lamb bacon" if you can find it. We have a local meatery that makes lamb bacon (Smoking Goose brand), & it is EXCELLENT. Again, it's not "bacon" but makes a wonderful dinner protein switch-up ...or a fun twist on lamb for Easter brunch.1 -
I had a beef bacon from US Wellness meats, and frankly, I didn't like it all that much. And I love red meat, I just didn't care for it as bacon. I'd rather stick to pork bacon and the fat on it tastes way better, imho.0

Oh this sounds fantastic. For some reason though, it actually gave me a sudden craving for venison summer sausage. There are a group of Mennonites near where I live that can do some truly amazing things with a dead deer.1
