I saw this on the General Diet and Weight Loss message board in response to someone who was eating a rabbit food diet:

Someone here once said (really wish I could remember who), paraphrasing, "The trick isn't to eat as little as possible, it's to eat as much as possible and still lose weight." That idea really hit home for me.

I like that.

Yeah, I like that. I think of it as "how much food pleasure can I get for the budget (point, calories, whatever) I have available to spend?"

I think several people have used that quote. I know my goal is always to eat as much as I can to lose/maintain not the least I can force myself to tolerate. How sad would that be? My body works hard, it deserves to be provided adequate nutrition.

If you eat too little you also risk a lot of extra muscle/lean tissue loss instead of fat loss, which is not a good thing.

I often forget about the "and still lose weight" part. Sigh.

I wish more people understood this. Quick weight loss means you're losing more than just fat and who the heck wants to lose muscle?!

Yes, I believe in this philosophy...maximize, not minimize and I add and good quality.

I'd say it's more about eating up to as much as possible and still lose/maintain weight.

Otherwise you run the risk of never learning when you aren't actually hungry.

I think I am trying to focus on learning how to eat a reasonable portion and what that is and knowing it will be enough. I don't want to focus on how much I can eat

Yeah, portion control still continues to be an issue for me :/
