What are some of your go-to things for exercise?

How long per day are you exercising?

I want to join a gym soon, but have no idea where to start when it comes to using the machines/weights for strength training. Any advice?

Thanks!

Best advice I ever received about exercise was Do what you LIKE. Sometimes people get to specific about what they think they NEED to do. Personally I try to walk a couple hours a day. Sometimes i hike, jog, run, bicycle. And I recently got a weight set. I never joined a gym but still lost 175# since surgery last March. Just keep moving! :)<3o:)

    This x 100.

I do cardio at home. I have a stationary bike and I do step-aerobics videos from Youtube (free!). I throw in some of the Leslie Sansone Walk At Home videos on occasion (there are some free ones on Youtube). I have access to a gym at work, so I do Starting Strength three times a week.

I use videos from these channels the most often:

My goal is to do cardio a minimum of 5 times a week for 60 minutes. I do yoga twice a week and strength training 3 times a week. I do a combination of gym (elliptical or treadmill), walking, yoga, various videos from YouTube - I really like the FitnessBlender videos, and I recently tried the Jenny Ford step aerobics. I work with a trainer for strength/core training and he gave me several various workouts I can do from home. I agree that you should do what you like, and I would like to add that you should also be careful as you begin to try different things. Most gyms offer a free training session or two when you join, and I would suggest taking advantage of that to have a trainer show you proper form, etc. Also, don't be shy about asking anyone who works there how to use machines if you aren't sure how. The last thing any of us want is an injury!

A typical week is running 20-30 miles and at least an hour of Kettlebell and/or yoga. I haven't joined a gym for many reasons and have been very happy with my results.

When I'm on a business trip I am generally doing a lot of elliptical and yoga classes of I can find them. I often work out twice a day when I travel just because I have the time in the evening.

All together, I'm usually exercising 6-10 hours a week.

Earlier on I did a lot of walking, biking, and swimming...and Jazzercise when I was on medical leave and could go during the day.

I walk and have a very labor intensive job. But I found a great site I'm joining that has potential called Nerd Fitness. I'm going to start doing some basic body weight exercises at home. Walk as much as I can. Then when I'm closer to goal I'm going to try Crossfit and start working towards doing 5ks.

Don't be afraid to try EVERYTHING! I had no idea how much I would love weights and RUNNING! I hired a private personal trainer in the beginning to learn how to exercise, but now I do it on my own. I run twice a week, Zumba 1-2 times a week, strength training once a week, and walk most days in between.
