I've been eating LCHF for a few months. Today was my annual physical and I've been concerned about what my lipid panel results would be after adopting this new WOE. Well, the worries are gone!
Cholesterol level - down 42 points
Cholesterol/HDL ratio - down .6 to 4.3 - This is within normal range, first time since I can remember.
LDL - down 23 points
Triglycerides - down 85 points from 186-101. Whoo hoo!
With such great results in such a short period of time, I'm looking forward to my next labs.
So glad I refused to take a statin. When my numbers increased after trying to address my bad lipid profile by following a mainly vegetarian diet for more than a year, I searched for a natural solution and found LCHF. So glad I gave it a try.
So I'm doing a happy dance tonight after eating chicken with previously banned yummy, crispy skin and veggies and drinking my coffee with heavy whipping cream!
My doctors says"keep doing what you're doing"!!

Thanks @KetoGirl_ZC , @toadqueen, @kpk54, and @carom!
I'm so pleasantly surprised by the results in part because it's been such a short period of time and also because I'm not eating VERY low carb. I eat lower carb veggies, nuts, and dairy on a daily basis as well as berries or cantaloupe, dark chocolate, and peanut butter multiple times a week. I even have small amounts of potatoes as well low carb bread or wraps on occasion and still had such great results. Plus, I'm eating more calories and am satiated most of the time as compared to when I was doing the low fat, primarily vegetarian diet and was ALWAYS hungry. Fortunately, my blood sugar has always been fine so I don't have to worry about eating some carbs at this time. I want to keep it that way because I have a family full of diabetics.5 -
Happy Dance with you!

I find this so hard to believe... I am not saying it isn't true, but man, this eating plan is crazy. I have lost 15.5 pounds in 3 weeks. What if I go to the doctor and my tests don't look this good? They are going to try and say stop and you should be eating this way.0

Have faith in your body. Feeling good and weight working on normalizing and everything else that goes with it simply cannot be a bad thing. Do what physically makes you feel good and have faith that your body is smarter than you and any doctor.0 -

I'm new to this as well, but I have read many stories about LCHF affecting labs in great ways.0 -

I was nervous about it, too. I read about others having good results but was still worried that it would not work for me. This morning I'm still surprised but happy!

My husband went from A1c of 10.7 to 7.7 in 4 months on this WOE and he fought me for the first 2 months and made me feel like this WOE was total deprivation He is now mostly on board. His meds are 1/4 from start point and he is losing weight. His starting A1c was 14.7 which really scared me. His other numbers are also moving towards normal but they weren't my first concern so I haven't paid as much attention to them. So what I'm saying this WOE works.3

Interestingly, this benefit in lipids cannot be attributed to a significant weight loss. I lost over 50 lbs. about two years ago doing a traditional low calorie, lowfat diet and kept it off. I was attracted to trying LCHF to help me lose the last 10 or so stubborn pounds and to see if it could help with the lipids. I've only lost about 4 pounds since beginning LCHF. I think this is in part due to not having as much to lose as some others and because my thyroid is failing and I've become hypothyroid. Interestingly, I believe that this WOE is helping my struggling thyroid because I've felt better and my TSH is significantly lower than it was in the Spring without a medication increase - suggesting that this may be the case.

I just hope my labs/panels have the same result1

It is a leap of faith to trust this woe!! The brainwashing is real!
I love the results! You will inspire others to hang in there and trust too, even though it may be hard for some to do so! It's sooo worth it!1 -

I agree. I don't think the weight loss has anything to do with the lipid panel results at all. I was just including it as being a clue that OP's doing the right things for better health.
We can't just look at one clue. There are so many. If we just went by weight loss, that can be forced in unhealthy ways as I'm sure we all have done at some point in our lives already. Or several times... We also can't just look at a lipid panel. Especially since it honestly doesn't mean nearly as much as most people and even most doctors think it does!
Look at all the clues.
Hold on... ADHD thought train coming through. I'll be back after gathering a link.
Ok.
Look at all these clues...

Something is VERY VERY RIGHT about cutting carbs and increasing natural fats. I know it doesn't hold up as scientific proof. I know we are all a bunch of aluminum foil hat wearing nut jobs (or so some think), but I'll take testimony and personal experiences that compare as solid evidence over any "official" source any day and every day!
It's hard not to want to argue the great things about this woe with a vast technical knowledge of all the inner workings. To be able to deflect any negative Nellie's mainstream ideas, but we aren't all wired to have that info on the tip of our tongues. If you're like me, and you've read and read and watched video after video and dug into medical reviews with a hunger for their knowledge and still can't muster up more than "low carb is great because bacon" as your argument for it, then you just have to be prepared to let others say their piece and advise them to do their own research if interested in understanding more. Arm yourself with your expertise about your own body and all the positives that you've experienced so far. And as time goes by you'll have acquired enough personal evidence that you don't have to worry about being able to support your belief in this lifestyle.3 -
I must admit that I read the title of this thread in the voice of young Anakin Skywalker from the Phantom Menace when he's competing in the podrace #geekout #cantstandthatkid3

This answers a question I was just asking in another thread. Thanks for posting.2

you know this way of dieting has always been there, just the big companies with their low fat products helped to convince people that low fat was the way to go. Back in the late 60s my brother had to lose a large amount of weight, ( to join the police force he had to be at least 14lbs lighter than he was) he was young and fit, just liked to eat more than he needed. Our GP put him on a diet that would help him lose weight and keep it off. The diet was indeed low carb, full fat. It is only since I started eating this way I can see that I am eating the same foods as he was, even though I was a child at the time I wondered how he could eat so much and still get slimmer. lol.3
