Not sure I'm doing it right?

I seem to easily go over my calorie goal. I'm only eating 40 grams max of carbs per day, most days about 30. I keep having days I'm ravenous? I dunno if I'm not drinking enough or I'm really getting that hungry. I hate the scale right now I want to be 165 but am stuck at 185. I've only lost about 5 pounds since three weeks of doing LCHF. I do Crossfit and I bike several days per week. I'm a little discouraged right now. I feel my clothes are fitting better though. Maybe I'm just being impatient? Last time I did LCHF I was completely sedentary and the weigh fell off easy so I'm a bit confused as to what's going on. I'd like to think I'm gaining muscle but I'm skeptical. Help

I have days like that too and it's not a day here or there is a week of eating like crazy. I still keep my carbs down but eat way over my calorie goal. I've been stuck around the same wt for weeks now and I think that's why. Everyone's advice is to listen to the hunger and go with it. That if my body says eat, eat and when it says "not hungry" don't eat. I'm trying to listen to that but I still habit eat some which is so so bad for me...

People will ask are you getting enough calories based on your activity to start with? Maybe you are depriving yourself thus you are hungry. People will ask have you measured yourself because the scale is not an accurate way to show loss - as you said muscle builds as fat falls away. People will ask have you taken pictures and compared them?

That's all wonderful advice but for those of us in this boat it's not easy to listen to. I want to see the scale move. I want my body to be happy with 1600 cals a day and I want to feel satisfied with my foods 100% of the time. Alas it seems we cannot have it all.... Sigh...

Keep in mind that you are losing almost 2lbs per week with only 20lbs to lose. That's quite fast compared to most. Not many manage that unless they have a lot to lose, which you don't have.

You say you'r stuck. How long have you been stuck at 185? The scale won't move every week. If you've only been stuck a week or two (which meant you lost 5lbs in 7 or 14 days) you are fine. Are you weighing every day? The geek in me weighed every day and made a graph to chart my weight. It would go up and down by a pound or two every day. When I would set my monthly goals I would give myself a few days to hit it because my weight fluctuated so much. If my end of the month goal was 160, I would look at my weight in the last week and into the next month because I would get 162, 161, 160, 158, 159 and then on the last day of the month I might hit 161. The first day of the month might be a 158 again. It really helped me see that inspite of the peaks and dips, my overall weight trend was downwards.

And if this exercise program is new and vigorous, it is going to cause you to hold onto water weight. I've told this story before but I'll share again. ;) A few years ago I was doing P90X. It's a pretty srentuaous lifting program and I was few months in. I could feel myself getting stronger. I then had a back injury and had to stop all exercise cmpletely. Within a week or two of stopping my exercise, yet eating the same calories (just without the extra burn) I lost 10 lbs. Whoosh. And the weight stayed gone too. My guess is that my muscles finally had a chance to recover so it gave up the water weight.

As for hunger, you could go with it, within rason. My kcals averaged out (for sedentary woman) at 1500 per day, but some days I was over 2000 and on others I was under 1000. As lomg as your hunger isn't prodding you to eat a ridiculous amount, or keeping your calories high too often, I would just go with it.

I'd say your doing well, nice loss. I would recommend that you make sure your getting enough sodium, I've found when I'm ravenous a little salt water takes care of it. With the switch to lc and the fact you exercise a good bit your likely losing a lot of sodium. Bacon helps a lot when I think I'm starving and feel hangry.

My Crossfit workouts aren't easy but they are about to get even harder Bc I just finished the 'ramp up' program so I can enter regular cross fit classes. I'm sore after every workout so I'm sure I'm using muscles I don't typically use. Maybe that fact is causing me to hold on to the water more. Why do we hold more water after hard workouts anyways I wonder??? This week the temps outside kicked up again so it's very possible low sodium could be driving my hunger. I'll pick up some bullion cubes. I really appreciate the feedback guys. I have only a couple of LCHF friends, feel free to add me :-)

When you work your muscles hard the tissue gets a million tiny tears in it causing inflammation and lactic acid to come in to repair it. That's how muscles grow larger, the tears allow the muscle to expand as it's repaired. But you'll have a bunch of inflammation and water retention during that process.

I just started lifting and immediately put on 5 pounds from the inflammation. I still would like to lose about 10 pounds, but at this point, it's really just body fat I want to reduce. If I never lose another pound but continue to lose body fat, I'll be completely happy. Actually, I'm sure that will actually be better in the long term anyway.
So, try not to focus on the scale and instead watch your body transform.
Take pics! They will show you what the scale cannot.

@Sunny_Bunny_ looking amazing! Doesn't it kinda drive you nuts with the scale lol. I'm amazed how much your mid section has tightened up since your last updated photo. This stage is truly the hardest to get through, I agree photos are invaluable.

Thank you! I really am amazed too! Especially since that photo and those changes occurred without exercise.
I'm now back up to 140, but I still fit those clothes I was wearing in August so I'm sure I still look like that photo though I don't have a newer one yet.
