This thread is for GOADies who like to run. New runners, old runners, and even wannabe runners meet here to discuss the joys and challenges of running. Use this space to log your miles, ask questions, share your race reports, or for anything else related to running.

New runners - and even those just thinking about starting out - are always welcome. There's no reason to lurk here. Join the pack and tell us about your running!

Oftentimes the GotR thread will pose a question or raise an issue in order to facilitate the conversation, but this is always an open forum to chat about any running-related topic.

QotD: fall races . . . what's on your near horizon?

Alt: your weekend running. Anyone racing?

Busy week. Busy last couple-of-two-or-three weeks, to be honest. I'm taking today off of work to try to catch my breath a bit! I haven't been running or working out at all Sun 9/11. It's interesting to note how quickly that time adds up.

I am not registered, but I have my eye on this chill-looking 10K next month. After that, nothing planned until the half marathon in Key West in January.

Weekend running . . . that'd be a good idea! Thinking now of an easy couple miles this morning and then a long(er) run on Sunday. Tomorrow AM I'll be at U of MN's football game vs Colorado State. We go very early to see my son in the marching band in pre-game rehearsal. Always a great time with those amazing students! Go Gophers!!

*sobs* Still no running for me. I'm healing from my bike crash two weeks ago but it is taking forever.

I've paid for a 1/2 marathon on 10/1 and a full marathon on 10/15. Both are at new to me venues. Both are on crushed limestone in forest preserves. Both have generous enough cutoffs that I can walk them. It is looking like I'll just be walking both unless a miracle occurs. At least I will be able to scope out the course to see if they are races I want to do in 2017.

I'm in a bad headspace today as getting on/off one of the machines in the weight room made my hip flexor hurt a lot. One step forward, two steps backward.

more sobs... I've not tried to run since blowing out my calf last Sunday. It is still tender, but doing better. I am at least hoping to get a short "test" run in this weekend.

I don't have any races signed up for, but I know that I want to do a half in May, 2017. I will likely do the subterrarian 10K in February. This is the only 10K in the entire country run underground. I did it in 2014. Pretty cool. I'd like to think there is a chance of doing my first full marathon next Fall, 2017.

    Have a great weekend!

    Steve

Forgot to post. We have the Walk Like MADD next Saturday.

http://www.walklikemadd.org/kansas. We are team Jake. That's my shameless plug. Both my wife Connie and I are on the Kansas Advisory Board for MADD. We are coming up on the 6th anniversary of when our Jacob and his sweet Stephanie were killed on 10/10/10. I have to say, it does not get any easier with time. We just get better at faking it.

@shenry111 - I'm so sorry about Jacob and Stephanie. You are right, those types of losses never get easier to accept. Here's hoping the efforts of your organization can spare other families from tragic losses due to drunk drivers.

4 miles this morning. Felt good while on the run, but I'm sore afterwards. I've been dealing with a low grade cold and generalized tired/achy since last Weds evening.

    Good Morning!

Brian, good to see you get some miles in.

I ran one mile on the TM last night, just to test the blown out calf. I could feel a little stiffness, and I can feel a little stiffness this morning, but not any severe pain. I will give it a couple of days, and then try 1-2 miles on Tuesday. I will keep it a little easier, until I can bet a better base built up. I also don't want to mess it up before the Walk Like MADD on Saturday.

@Calvin2008Brian - hope this week gets you back to feeling 100%

@shenry111 - that is encouraging on your calf!

I'm cautiously optimistic that I might be able to do a bit of running at this Saturday's half marathon. My hip flexor is finally starting to feel better. Not 100% yet, but 90%. Doing a bunch of stooping, bending, kneeling while weeding yesterday didn't cause any discomfort.
