I'm not sure if this is really a disease. I am by no means an expert, but I have a sister who is a radiologist and have FBD myself...always have (large cysts that often require an ultrasound after mammograms). I personally believe this is just one variation on the wide spectrum of "normal".0

I was recently told (as in last week) that I have fibrocystic breasts but they didn't call it a disease so I'm not sure if it is the same thing. The way it was explained to me it was more like this is just my normal and even that can change over time, so while right now they are fibrocystic in 10 or even 20 years they may not be. I will say that because of my family history it does earn me extra screening. I have to go every 6 months for mammograms right now and I'm only in my late 30s. If it does change and it goes away, it is hard to say if it is my new WOE doing it or just natural changes going on in my body as I move out of child bearing years and closer to menopause.0

Hi Ladies,
I also have Fibrocystic breasts and strong family history of early breast cancer. (mom and maternal grandmother) I just had a curious mammogram which led to an ultrasound. During my follow up with my breast surgeon (because I'm high risk) I asked if my weight gain of 10 lbs over the past year could have changed my films. She said it could have, went back and looked at the film, she said she didn't think it had in my case. The fact that she went back to look at the film made me think that weight fluctuations may have the ability to change composition or at least the way the films look? We did talk about the fact that being over weight increases my chance for cancer. It was a good conversation.1 -

Will also add that I participate in the Coriell Personalized Medicine Collaborative (DNA studies) that while I have very fibrocystic breasts, I have none of the genetic markers (BRCA) that would mark me as a person of risk. I have one sister who has had breast cancer. She has not had any DNA studies but did go through extensive hormone therapy with her IVF...two successful pregnancies with two beautiful sets of twins.0 -
I've had the gentic testing as well and do not have the BRCA genes...however my mom was diagnosed with a very aggressive form of ductal cancer at 37 (my age now) and then a few years later my grandma was diagnosed as well with the similar type of ductal cancer but it was caught very early. So between my family history and fibrocystic breasts I get diagnostic mammograms looking at certain areas very 6 months, and I see a breast cancer specialist every 6 months. My boobs get lots of attention...every 3 months someone is doing something with them.0

Knock on wood, my first was found in 1983 and hasn't changed in 33 years0

OMG...I am jealous...I am currently single so the only attention my boobs get is what I give them...

I have this as well, but was told it was highly likely due to my outrageous lifetime long caffeine consumption as well as genetics. So their suggestion was to cut caffeine (and chocolate, but I dont like chocolate so not my problem). Not sure that is always related, but just going keto may not make much difference if you still drink coffee etc (diet soda and tea is my issue, no coffee).0

Oh, man. I wish I could remember what in the heck I was reading/listening to last week, but it had to have been a thyroid or adrenal related summit...but they were talking about actually reversing fibrocystic breast tissue by dietary intervention and supplements/nutrient therapy. It had to have been a podcast, as I would almost swear it was two women discussing it. I will have to rack my brain, too, as this is WAY IMPORTANT. How I didn't note it down is beyond me in the first place. I had a "reference" mammogram done myself back about 5 years ago... I'm due for my regular check up in a few weeks here, and expect that now that I'm 40 that I'll be in the regularly rotation for this, as I've ALWAYS had very fibrous breasts, as well. I'll have to definitely ask about the genetic testing, especially now that I know my maternal grandmother died of cancer in the last few years, and I'm fairly certain they said it was breast cancer...
If I remember any details of who was talking about this in the podcast, I will let you all know!!!1 -

After skimming this link, kathleenbarnes.com/iodine-and-fibrocystic-breasts-and-breast-cancer/ - and finding half of my top results mentioning iodine for treatment, it makes me wonder if it wasn't part of the thyroid summit. I think I have access still to most of those speakers, so I will go back and relisten to the wants I remember listening to in the first place!!! @idocdlw and everyone, please nag me about it if it slips off my radar! This is important to ALL of us, whether directly or through our loved ones...1
