Having the hardest time getting down 3 protein shakes per day, much less any additional liquid.0

WOW! Three protein shakes? This early? My surgeon told me not to worry so much about getting protein or nutrients the first few weeks and to concentrate on getting enough fluids.

Lol. Surgery was Tuesday, 3 days of clear liquids then 2 weeks of full liquids. Idk those are my instructions. On the full liquids they said at least 60 to 70g of protein per day. It's hard.0

Liz, that is similar to my experience. I just went back to my MFP diary from the immediate post- surgery time and I proteins hakes and soups for the first two weeks. When I went for my 2 week follow up, my surgeon authorized my first egg and I got to skip pureed food and go right to mushy.
What a trip reviewing the diary! I can remember some of the soup flavors and the cartons they came in! Blast from the past!
There is so much variation between programs. My official program had me expecting two weeks of puree, but the surgeon said i was progressing well so it was OK to try some mushy and progress if it agreed with my sleeve. Best egg I ever had! Follow your program and it will all get there in time. I honestly don't remember much of the first month, so it wasn't that bad.

I was to try to get 3 shakes from my first day home. I was able to by day 3. Give it time and it's comforting to remember they count as liquid ozs!1

Like @rpyle111 said, every program is different. And as @clcmfp pointed out, those protein shakes count towards your fluid intake as well. I just remember that fresh out of surgery, my stomach was (naturally) very sensitive. Sugar-free flavor like Mio or another brand was sickeningly sweet to me. Many brands of sugar-free popsicles were overpowering as well. And I remember how hard it was to choke down protein drinks post-op for that first month, so my sympathy is with you. Also noticed right away that the Strawberry flavored ones that I used to chug with no problem just plain gagged me post-op. The only one I can really tolerate is the chocolate one.

Like others have said, try to follow your programs instructions... But, ultimately what you put in your body is up to you. Some days you may get more protein in than others. As long as you're healing and feeling better each day that's what matters.
