Hi everyone,
I am on week 5 and I have been feeling better than I have in a long time. The last few days I have been really hungry. After I got over my initial "flu" like symptoms, I have been great with no hunger issues. I'm eating the same. What could be causing the hunger?

Did you increase sodium? Could be deficiency signaling to eat to correct itself.
Low sodium is what causes "low carb flu"0 -
I don't think so, I am adding salt to my boiled eggs and my bacon has plenty. I will watch it today though. Thanks.0

How steep is your calorie deficit?1

That's no where near enough.

I'm not exactly sure what that is!? I am eating about 1200 cal per day and I've lost 17 lbs and several inches all over.0 -

How much would you say you have left to lose?
In the beginning I could eat that low calories easily. Even less most of the time. Until I lost about 20 pounds then the hunger increased. It became more and more difficult to keep low calorie days the closer I get to goal. Which I still haven't reached.
I believe in listening to hunger. Maybe give yourself a week at maintenance calories.

Set to sedentary even if you exercise.3 -
If you're eating only 1200 calories it could be that you're hungry because your overall calorie intake is unnecessarily low. There seems to be a greater number of people in the forum these days who are realizing they can eat more, not be hungry and still lose at a satisfactory rate.
How did you arrive at 1200 calories per day? I guessing you must have entered your data into MFP to "lose 2 pounds per week"? Also perhaps, "sedentary"? Or is 1200 calories just a number you chose?

17 lbs in 5 weeks is over 3 lbs a week which is a very steep deficit. Long term, you will be better served losing 1-2 lbs per week. The slower rate will help with sustainability, maintenance after you reach goal, but most importantly, too steep of a deficit can damage your metabolism.
The best advice I can give is if you are keeping carbs low and are still hungry, you are probably not eating enough. Keep the carbs at or below your max. Get enough protein. Eat enough fat to be satiated but no more than needed. If you do this, your weight loss will likely not be as fast as it was the first 3 weeks, but you will not make yourself feel deprived. Therefore you will be more likely to stick with it. Deprivation is the main reason people fail on any diet.
I lost weight far slower than most anyone I know - roughly 3 years to drop 38 lbs. However, I was at no point feeling deprived and have maintained without any issues for about 8 months now. I am not suggesting you go at a rate as slow as I did. I love eating too much to cut back as much as most people. That was also not 1 lb a month. It was fits and starts where I would lose 1 a week for a month or two and then maintain for a few months.2 -

I have at least 35 more to lose. I just thought it was weird to be eating the same amount of food and being hungry now. I did start walking though, something I haven't been able to do in several years.0 -

Yes, I chose the 1200 cal because otherwise MFP said it would take me 2 years to lose my weight. I also have MS and several other diagnosis that cause extreme fatigue so I am not very active. The last 2 weeks I am finally able to get outside and walk.1 -

This is probably part of your answer too. Your body is burning more energy especially if you've added in exercise on top of the same amount of calories you were previous consuming.1 -

Exercise makes me instantly hungry!
I just started back lifting and daily walking 2 days ago and I am eating more and can't do 1 meal a day anymore. I can't even make it to my normal 3pm for the first meal. I'm breaking down about 1 or 1:30 now and it's most definitely real hunger!
I am eating when hungry but trying to be smart about it and pacing myself and choosing foods I think are best for my recovering sore muscles.
