Carbs Causing Pains? One Goal Met

Okay so I met one goal of 215 pounds. Down from 260. But I will say I have cheated some over the last month. I was sick with some respiratory stuff and the flu. I ate pho a few times to open me up. I have had some sushi wrapped in rice here and there. I have been doing really good without cheating. Question is my upper back is sore, pretty sore. Maybe more stiff than sore. Inflammation? Could carbs cause this? How do I make it go away?

Oh yeah a progress pic.zym3qpdbh5f4.jpg

Thanks.

Nice progress. Congrats on hitting that first goal. Eating a little bit of rice or other carb is not the end of the world. Just continue on the path you have been following at the next meal. Life goes on.

As for the pain, that depends that kind of pain is most common from gluten issues. How have you been exercising? Or even did you lay around sick on the couch? That can cause back pains, even a bed if you just lay there too long. Too many unknowns to say for sure if carbs are at the root of the pain.

Wanted to add to my other post, but it didn't let me edit.

Google "exercises for back pain" there are tons of great sites with simple stretching exercises for your back. My husband has worked up a whole routine by taking what he needs from each site he has visited.

My carbs have been high lately, for me. Around 50g per day but my joints are causing me a lot of pain. I'd forgotten how much carbs make me hurt... but this isn't new for me. I had pain before I went low carb so I KNOW it is carb related. Because this is new for you, I suspect it could be something else. Maybe that virus? I get pretty achy from viruses too. Maybe stress?

Whatever it is, I hope it goes away for you soon.

And congrats on the progress! It looks like you've gone through a few sizes already. :)

Didn't you have some sort of pain the last time you stopped by? Your temple or somewhere?

No suggestions for upper back pain. It's getting close to the end of the school year. Are those 6th graders stressing you out?

How's your wife? Still keto too? Still making you keto cheesecakes?

    Great loss!

I went off the wagon a week or so and I started getting knee pain like before I started this WOE (I have Juvenile/Rheumatoid Arthritis). Back on track these last 5 days and knee pain is gone once more. This is despite me doing yoga on Sunday. So yes I'm starting to believe there is a link between my RA pain and carbs.

The reason for pain can be many.

With that being said I went from high carb to LCHF Oct 2014 with long term pain levels in 7-8 range. Just 30 days later it was down into the 2-3 level range. As I work to lower my C-Reactive Protein (CRP) test scores the joint and muscle pain is even lower.

Friday with the help of my son we remove the worn 3/4" bolts that holds the heavy bush hog gearbox in place and replace them. It was a very stressful task then I bush hogged for a couple hours around church before the Easter Egg hunt the next morning and my pain level ticked up just a bit but not bad.

I already expected that because I have added 4-5 mg of Vitamin K2-MK7 last week to see if it has an impact on calcium removal that may in my arteries and is in my joints/muscles from the Ankylosing Spondylitis.

Today I am still on the on high dosage K2-MK7 but feeling less pain but the storms have passed too.

The large weight loss will help over time because fat tissue itself is quite inflammatory.

    Keep up the great success.

I had that shoulder pain in right shoulder for a little while and the temple pain was gone and over quickly. Some people on here thought some of the pains I was having was due to rapid weight loss and body change. All of that has been gone. I felt great from December until middle of March. The virus has been gone for a couple of weeks now. I hadn't done anything physically taxing. Like moving furniture or whatever. A lot of people say they experience shoulder blade pains before gall bladder attack. Like I said this feels more like a stiffness. The pain/stiffness didn't keep me from falling asleep. Just slows me down from getting up to go pee or up from any lying down position. I was on Levaquin for a throat infection and I read some crazy stuff about that antibiotic. But I was done taking it about two weeks ago. Like breathing regularly I am fine. Deep breaths cause a little pain. Stress maybe? Not sure.

I don't notice any increase in pain with rice or potato, however any kind of grain definitely tends to leave me feeling kind of achey and stiff.

I know I have a lot more inflammation when ingesting more carbs but my doctor also once told me that eating more carbs than you are used to, even though it's still relatively low, can cause an excess insulation reaction and that can cause more inflammation. This came up when I had a few days of really painful joints in my hands and had eaten more carbs than usual though still under 150 grams a day in my pre keto days.

Bloat. I simply bloat. And that feels awful enough, to me.

Both my husband and I use turmeric to help with inflammation. it makes a significant difference in the foot injury I have and the carpel tunnel symptoms he experiences. Reduction in carbs never has helped the ache i experience in my shoulders but the Turmeric does.

@mmultanen , do you make golden paste or use turmeric another way? I'm interested in trying it to help my knees out, and I've made GP before, but man, I'm lazy and hate making it. I just want a quick pill I can pop!

Congrats on the progress and the first goal!

I use turmeric as well - no golden paste, just add it to many of the foods that I eat. I am old and have abused my body thru the years with sports so lots of aches, but they are managed with the turmeric and the lower carb lifestyle (no NSAIDS for me if I can help it!).

You can get tumeric in a capsule in just about any vitamin/herb shop.

@pitbullmamaliz I use capsul form. My husband used to make a smoothie with the fresh root and let me tell you that shiz stains EVERYTHING. I just don't have time for the clean up in my life. My dad uses the powder outside the capsule. He buys it in bulk and then sprinkles it on avocados. Turmeric is one of those that your body best absorbs (uses) when it is combined with fat and pepper. So take it with eggs, avocados, coconut oil etc.

As with any homeopathy it will take your body a while to begin to recognize the benefits. Give it a month before you decide to increase dose.

Also be advised, at least per Dr Google it may negatively interact with several prescribed medications. Look before you leap.
