So I have been weighing every day as suggested by the programme I'm following which is low carb high fat. Since last week I have lost and gained the same kg! I started at 60kg and at went down as far as 58.5 but this morning was 59.6! What's going on ? I have also taken measurements as suggested and will check these but was hoping for more of a 'woosh' on the scales as many people report when they start low carb...

Not everyone gets that initial woosh. I fluctuate a good bit anyway but at the beginning it was all over the place. I also weigh everyday because it helps me to not freak out if I suddenly go up on weigh in day. Sometimes the body needs time to adjust.

I'm exactly the same.... the day after weigh day my weight has gone up 3 lbs then that seems to drop off over the next four or so days with an extra 1-2 lbs the 2 days after that. Then after the next weekly weigh in my weights been up again. I'm only 3 weeks in so I'm guessing I'm still adjusting?

Very strange but overall I weigh less than when I started so its all got to be good.

This is happening to me too. I'm going on week 2 and I was just hoping for that initial drop in weight like everyone else has been having. I went down about a pound and a half and then went right back up to normal if not more. But on the positive side I don't feel bloated and i have a ton of energy!

Wow it seems that I'm in good company! Sunny_Bunny_ that was interesting that you haven't lost weight but gone down a full size - I guess it's muscle then?

It also depends on how overweight you are. If you are close to goal weight then you wouldn't get a big woosh like someone who has 100+ to lose.

The big whoosh in the beginning is usually water, so if you aren't retaining a lot of water before going low carb, then you aren't likely to have that reaction. Also, if you are working out you will continue to retain water in your muscles even if you do switch to low carb, so again, not going to see the water whoosh.

For me the scale is a totally unreliable metric...I am regularly +/- 5 lbs on any given day...measurements are far more stable for me if I do them first thing in the morning...I stick with measurements and photos - I do still weigh and track weight once a week, but the scale is a giant biz-nitch, so I don't pay a huge amount of attention to it.

I've been known to weigh myself right before bed and then again first thing in the morning. My weight is always at least 3 pounds down in the AM. I find it best to look at it as an interesting experiment for research purposes.

I'm not even close to goal weight and very far from that, probably 80 lbs away. For the past three weeks I have been so good, but the scale has not been reflecting that. I just keep telling myself it'll happen eventually. I also found out I've got a problem with my thyroid which makes sense. So, now taking pills for thyroid the past couple of weeks and finally today I was down 2 lbs. Who knows tomorrow I could be right back up again but I'm keeping to plan, getting my proteins and my carbs. I am still determined in spite of my scale being unmotivating. I do feel 'lighter' for what ever that means. Hopefully, in a few weeks as my body adjusts to the new meds things will look much better. One foot in front of the other.

Every body is different. I lost all my excess(63 pounds) eating on the high end of low carb with a calorie deficit. I seem to have lost all the fat that my body wants/ed to lose eating in that fashion too.

I ate a darn strict version of medically therapeutic keto for a full year (for reason other than weight or body comp) and didn't have a whoosh to start and didn't seem to lose and inch anywhere. As planned/expected, I neither gained nor lost on the scale or on the body. I ate maintenance calories and learned quickly that "eyeballing" foods loaded with fat and calories didn't work for me. I really never used a food scale regularly until starting keto. It became a necessity for me. I was highly disappointed in how tiny HF portions really have to be. They were satiating enough when I learned to eat more slowly or eat my tiny little weighed portion and wait to get the feeling of being satiated. I also had to quit doing things like licking the spoon or scraping the cheesy/fatty goodness out of the casserole dish and eating it. Bummer. Bad habits that can effect calories in. But it was just a bite...a 100 calorie bite. I had/have to count it or quit it.

I've deemed my maintenance weight to be between 140 and 145. It has been in that range for 3 years intentionally. If it hits 145 I cut back for a few days and the weight drops off. Fluctuations are a part of life. It's not fat loss. Just water weight or whatever causes the scale to fluctuate a few pounds.

You already look nice and trim (if that is a current pic of you in the avatar) though I understand "trimmer" is a personal goal so no judgement there. Perhaps weigh and measure food if you are not currently doing so to ensure you are at a deficit and/or focus on a lifting program for re-comp and get smaller if that is of interest.

It's an old picture when I was much lighter than I am now - I'm aiming to get down to that weight again. So I'm about 60kg currently and I think in that picture I'm about 54-55kg.....
