What amount of carbs counts as Keto?
I've seen some people/sites say 5% of daily calories, and others say 20g net regardless of calories. Depending on calories needs using a percentage could be very different from a set number. 5% of 2000 is 100g, which is a huge difference from the 20g.
Just curious. Thanks!!

5% may get mentioned on other sites. I know it gets mentioned here since MFP uses percentages and the free version is in 5% increments only. Your 5% of 2000 mentioned above is a perfect example of why one should use grams versus percentages but we have what we have here at MFP unless we subscribe to the paid version.
I've always figured that if the body is in an ongoing state of ketosis due to carb reduction, one is eating a ketogenic diet. For some people that might mean 20 grams gross or net. For others it might mean 50 gross or net. Or any where in between. Or even above 50 for those who exercise or just because.
You can get a ketone measuring device and see where your sweet spot is for ketosis if it is important.4 -
@codename_steve - your math is a bit off. 5% of 2000 calories is 100 calories. To get 100 calories from carbs would be 25 g (4 calories per gram).5

NP. With all the numbers flying around it is expected to have some confusion here and there0 -
Whatever amount allows you to remain in ketosis. It varies from person to person. But generally accepted is less than 50g total probably and 20g or less, definitely...1
