How Do I Stop Cheating?
Replies

I needed to hear this today. I always went ahead and stopped each time I 'messed up' my low carb plans by carbing out. 'I'll start again next week', was a common saying when I messed up. Number 7 hit home. Fantastic letter! Just what I needed to hear.0

Smart lady..
You can't force a man to do anything he doesn't want to without some repercussion.0 -
@Twibbly, thanks for posting your friends, friends reply. This is something we must renew ourselves to every moment possible. Great inspiration. @Carly, my hubby is the same way with his attitude toward this woe. I believe he thinks it's a fad, and will pass, as all of the others have. He hasn't even paid enough attention to know how to cook things (he used to cook ALOT, now, not so much) for me, and doesn't seem interested in learning. He's happy to eat the meat I cook, but is always looking for a side dish, where I could care less. He will even add pimento cheese to his plate just to have something else to eat! Maybe he will get it one day, once he realizes this isn't a fad.meanwhile, I'm watching him gain weight while eating my high fat meat along with his carbage!.1

Diabetes Meds... Make life easy!
Till the day of reckoning.
Then it's "How can I fix it time?"
Unfortunately for me, I can't.
At best I might be able to hold
the complications at bay.
I heard all the tales of woe, but
like most, I thought it would never
happen to me.

Perfect read for me today. Especially this:
"You deserve better than a cheap, simple, VERY momentary pleasure."
Printed and put where I'll see it every day.
@JessicaLCHF And then I get the best laugh I've had all day on top of it!2 -
I guess it depends on how serious you feel the situation is.
My doctor hates insulin
He says it is hard on your body and is a last resort.
He said we would do everything possible to avoid ever going on the hard drugs
So for me it was just serious from the start. Cheating was never an option with my doctor. He was adamant. You have to fix this now. Type 2 is a lifestyle disease so change your lifestyle for the better or diabetes will change it for the worse.
Don't cheat
You are not rewarding yourself, you are hurting yourself
It was told to me every visit.3 -

This is wonderful. Thank you so much for sharing. The piece about recommitting EVERY DAY is so true and necessary...at least, for me.0

This morning I decided I must return to low carb eating so it has been amazing to read that great post. It has made me even more determined to stick to my lc plan. Thanks for quoting the letter. Great inspiration and motivation. All I need now is determination, persistence, patience, and reading this forum every morning, and any time during the day when I think about being tempted to eat some carbs.0

@bremm2015, making it through the first few weeks can be a tough time where many fail. The carb cravings/addiction is really deep in some people. Making the choice to resist is yours alone. But I can tell you that every time you do make the best choice it builds strength. That strength builds, making temptation nonexistent once you've made the choice enough. It does get easier, and making that choice at first will take you very far with this woe. Best of luck to you!1

Thanks Karlottap for your interest and good wishes. I had an excellent lc day yesterday and will have another one today. Best of luck to you too.0

I agree with this @tattoomary . I tried to taper off of sugar and grains for two months and failed.
With my health crashing quickly and looking at starting Enbrel injections for pain management then in only 30 days I made breaking my carb cravings/addiction as if it was a live or die decision because our two 16 year old kids were watching me sink. That was the first of Oct 2014.
It was a hellish two weeks in my case but then the cravings quickly faded. At the end of the first 30 days after stopping sugar and all grains my long term pain levels of 7-8 had dropped to levels of 2-3 and still is low as long as I keep my total carbs <50 grams daily and they do not some from sugar and grains.
Where this would work for another I can not say. It have me my life back and my kids have hope that my life is not their future life.
I had to see myself in my coffin due to my Way Of Eating in my case to stop endlessly eating carbs. What I thought I needed to live and be happy was leading to my premature death I now understand.
Again I can not tell another what to do when it comes to carb cravings/addiction. Try to find a way that will work for you and do it. I did this living in a house swimming in carbs so that can not be one's excuse. In my case my will to live finally won out. To this day I do not really remember many details those two weeks. All I know I did not eat any food containing sugar and or grain. One day I do remember Googling 'dying from coconut oil' and learned about the Herxheimer Reaction.
I did not know about LCHF WOE until later but I was consuming large amounts of coconut oil. In hindsight I think Candida overgrowth may have been a factor in my cravings. Even eating LCHF Candida can still be a struggle in my case.
Now I take a homeopathic liquid daily called Aqua Flora High Potency 9 Multi-Strain Candida Formula that I started Oct 2016. Now my throat is clear when I wake up in the mornings so no hacking up clear thick build up every morning.
We all can be very different so just keep looking and reading. Carbs are needed by different harmful things that can hurt our health. In my case I am certain had I not cut out most carbs I had no chance to stop my downward spiral then reverse it over the past two years.
My health is better at 65 (turning 66 next month) than it was at 45 and my lab work supports this improvement on my LCHF WOE.
No it is not easy but few good things comes without an upfront cost. Best of success to all.5 -
I so needed this post this morning. If I had a printer I would print it out and make copies to paste all over my house and work area.0

Agree wholeheartedly! I have been struggling since Christmas and only I can make the decision to resist. Pretty soon all the cravings will be gone and life will be easier again1 -
Amazing. Thank you for bumping this up. I was contemplating a very planned out cheat meal in the future on a "limited time only" food I LOVED, but now I'm reconsidering.1

Nice post, thanks for the bump for those of us who weren't around for the original posting.0

This should not only be a sticky, but the OP original post should be plastered on the main page and required reading for all who join this thread. I will have my Tough Love, brutally honest moment here. The OP summarizes what I have been feeling lately when I see the "Can I cheat", "I fell off the wagon", "I am not seeing any results" and the infamous "I've stalled what do I do" posts.
Everyone has different reasons for being here and on the LCHF diet. But lets face it, most are here because they want to lose weight and improve their health!!!
The OP gently and poetically "kicks everyone in the ***". Either your committed to changing your self, your WOE or you are not and want to pretend, but starting the LCHF going off it when you fell like, coming back etc... is simply faking it.
It really gets down to the main fact: To make a real change it's mental and requires you to be strong! You can be strong...dont let stalls, anyone deter you and give you an excuse to quit. Keep going forward.
To the OP: Mic'd dropped and leave the stage - it couldn't have been a better post.2 -
I wasn't able to open the link at the end of the original post but having read it before and believing it is on point for many, I looked it up and will post it here just in case others weren't able to open it and want to read it.
Be advised it does include some profanity so if you are offended by profanity don't open the link.
