Many of us feel the need to remain connected by just signing in on a daily basis. We may have a lot to say or very little. We may say smart things, or dumb things. It doesn't matter if we're having a good day, a bad day...or something in between. We'll post our thoughts, our successes, our challenges, our insights (or lack thereof), and our support. We're here for each other. Together, we can do this!

This isn't about perfection...it's about perseverance: to persist in an undertaking in spite of counter influences, opposition, or discouragement.

Onward and Downward. Everyone is welcome! If you're new to this message board, check out goadies.org.

Remember that at its core, weight loss is simple - eat a little less than you used to, eat a little healthier, be a bit more active. The rest is just finding the balance that works for you, and your friends on GoaD are here to share what's worked for them.

Check, mates. @goldenfrisbee , our dog is the same way. Storms didn't bother her until a really severe one several years ago. We actually got hit by lightning! Ever since, she starts trembling at the first sign--rain, thunder or lightning (often before we're even aware of the possibility).

@minimyzeme Yep, I think this happened to her after we kenneled her while on vacation and they had storms. We've tried everything available and are now on to drugs to help her to stay calm. Our house is taking a toll with this behavior. She has scratched through a drywalled wall and tore up carpet in the hallway and other places in the house. I have to watch the radar when no one is at home to make sure that we don't have storms on the horizon when no one is at home.

Yep, tried this a long time ago as well as natural herbal treatments. Have tried two different types of sedatives to be given an hour before storms, and now we are on to a daily sedatives. It's sad to see how distressed she gets, even with just wind or rain. I now have to stay up with her or she will hurt herself trying to escape whatever room she is in.

Have you tried crating her? Some dogs do much better when in tight confinement - i.e. the crate should be big enough to stand in and lay straight, not much bigger. Dogs are den animals and crates resemble dens to many dogs, especially if introduced to it in a positive way. When something scary is happening... A crate covered by a blanket may give the security she needs.

@goldenfrisbee , sorry to hear of your extreme case, both for your sake and the dog's. I thought ours was 'bad', but it's relatively tame compared to what you're dealing with. Like you, I hate to see Carmen SO terrified, but she has found her safe spot in the closet and pretty much stays there, with her Thunder Shirt on if we're home to put it on her. (She's the one I'm holding in the Before & After pics thread.) Sorry for your troubles. That's the kind of stress that sometimes leads me to mindless eating... Hope you find a solution soon... for all of your sakes!

@minimyzeme It used to be that my dog would go in the laundry room, find the cubby hole underneath the staircase and hide in there, but those days are long gone. The older she gets the higher her anxiety level. She literally trembles as soon a she hears distant thunder. She's a 12 1/2 year old golden retriever, so I don't think she has a lot longer to live, but on the other hand she shows little sign of aging other than her gray face.

@bwmalone I think I'll give the crate a try with a blanket over the top (if I still have it) She was crate trained as a puppy and spent nights in there for the first two years. After that we gave her free reign in the house.
